Can US trust Russia to disarm Syria's chemical weapons?

ROBERTS: Let me put the final question to Congressman Van Hollen.

Do you believe, as some members of Congress do, that Putin has outfoxed President Obama on all of this?

VAN HOLLEN: Well, if outfoxing means giving the president of the United States everything they asked for and more, maybe that's kind of outfoxing we need because, look -- again, the president had a clear objective: stop Assad from using chemical weapons. In the last six days, we have accomplished that and more.

So, what -- and why? Look, Putin was sitting out there --

ROBERTS: Senator Lindsey Graham believes Putin has put the president in a box.

VAN HOLLEN: That's absurd. Look, Putin was out there. His big ally, Assad, is sitting there, and Putin's powerless to stop a potential military strike from the United States. What kind of message does that send any other allies Russia has around the world?

So, Putin was acting from a position of weakness, and the reality, as Mike said, is he has some leverage over Assad. He did not want to see military action taken. And at the end of the day, he helped deliver exactly what the United States wanted, which is to put an end to Assad's weapons of mass destruction.

Simple truth about Syria: Obama got everything he wanted from Putin and more

The absurdity of Vladimir Putin's anointment as a diplomatic leader by Republicans and the usual right-wing suspects at Fox News has reached new heights. The notion that the President was "hoodwinked" or "played" by Putin on the Syrian compromise is stupid, laughable, and nothing but the same old partisan hate for our President. Yes of course, Putin outfoxed and took advantage of Obama by giving him everything he wanted and more? That sure makes a lot of sense.

The usual anti-Obama suspects can stop kidding themselves on who was responsible for stopping the use of chemical weapons in Syria and the agreement by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to destroy the remaining stockpiles. Obama, that's who. The President's credible threat of force left Syria's biggest ally Russia powerless to do nothing but squirm and forced them to talk Assad into waving the white flag. Russia has significant trade relations, investments, lucrative arms contracts, and a substantial presence in Syria's infrastructure, and energy industries. Do you really think they wanted to see the United States conduct an air campaign on Syria? Of course not. But they were sitting there powerless to stop a potential limited U.S. strike.

Bottom line: President Obama has stopped Bashar al-Assad from the further use of chemical weapons. Putin was powerless and acting from a position of weakness because he didn't want to see the U.S. take military action. Putin has given the President everything he wanted and more. Checkmate, President Obama.

I was mistaken, it is as recent as yesterday:
Mon Jun 17, 2013 7:59pm EDT
(Reuters)- The Pentagon said on Monday it will spend $572 million to buy 30 Russian-built military helicopters that will be used by Afghan security forces.
The Mi-17 helicopters will be used by Afghanistan's National Security Forces Special Mission Wing, which supports counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics and special operations missions.
The contract with Rosoboronexport, the Russian arms company, covers spare parts, test equipment and engineering support. The Pentagon said the work would be performed in Russia. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
A year ago, the Defense Department purchased a dozen of the Mi-17 aircraft from Rosoboronexport for $217.7 million, as part of a larger contract originating in 2011.
Wasn't it just last week, the nitwit Realtime was going on about how bad the Russian equipment was?
Galt can understand giving the Taliban the Russian crap instead of the good American equipment.

Putin negotiated a pass for Assad to finish liquidating the Islamist terrorists without US interference, while Putin takes custody of any chemical weapons.

Sounds like a big win for Obama...

Deluded Conservatives Run with Poll That Shows Only 23% Want to Destroy ObamaCare
This is the exact same Republican propensity for delusion we saw during 2012, when the media helped Republicans live in their bubble world with jacked up polls and a refusal to face reality.
No matter how confused people are right now, Republicans would be wise to remember that most of the benefits haven’t kicked in yet, though many Americans already got refund checks from private insurance companies and some preventative care is now co-pay free.
The confused Tea Party loves their Medicare. And one day, they’ll love their ObamaCare, too.

No kidding! And what is it with all the Blacks in commercials all of a sudden? They represent 12% of the population yet they are in about 95% of commercials. All I can say is that Obama's Media campaign manager, David Axelrod,(whose company makes commercials) must be paying off just about every TV advertising company in the nation. It is really sickening.

QUOTE who="usasince1680" quoted text
Why is it people can come here on a raft with absolutely nothing but the clothes on their backs and support themselves while Blacks who have been born here and have been the recipients of special entitlement programs are still unable
to support themselves? Isn't it just plain laziness?

The percentage of the African-American population on welfare is 7%. The dependency rate for whites is 1.1%. http://www.slate.com/id/1003938/
Stop using the old story about being held down by slavery. Cubans and Mexicans who came here with nothing are doing better than blacks. Blacks are lazy and use the excuse of slavery as a crutch to hold them down.

QUOTE who="usasince1680" quoted text
You are so right. Having had to hire blacks to meet Affirmative Action goals I found that Blacks, basically, didn't want to be there. They would rather be doing anything but working. They were unreliable, lazy and indignant. Constantly abusing sick days and using work time for personal phone calls and business. Hispanics were always hard working, respectful and reliable.

*NOTE BLACKS and HER HOUSEKEEPER&GARDNER
QUOTE who="USAsince1680" quoted text
OK, start spitting. Spit out some of those technological achievements of blacks that led to the success of America's economy.
My point is that blacks want some kind of special recognition for their part in the history of the south and they want to take credit for success that was not of their making. That is like my gardener and housekeeper taking credit for my success.
Blacks were the workers not the movers. You don't see the Chinese who slaved on the building of the railroads demanding special recognition. You don't see the Irish who were brought to the United States as indentured servants demanding special recognition. But what you do see is that they have moved on and become successful.
Immigrants to America built our country and black slaves were a very small part of its history. Get over it. If blacks spent as much time concentrating on their education and personal responsibilities as they do demanding recognition and special treatment, they would actually find themselves advancing forward instead of stagnating in their own self made ghettos.
In other words, stop complaining and get to work.
