Some of the reforms Booker is advocating:
•Step up the national conversation on decriminalizing marijuana.
•Eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for low-level drug offenders.
•Eliminate the sentencing disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine.
•Increase federal funding for drug and community courts that divert low-level drug offenders from prison.
•Work to end the use of private prisons.
•Help inmates and their families maintain functional relationships, by making phone calls financially accessible, providing domestic abuse and counseling classes and working to incarcerate inmates in facilities as close to their families as possible.
•Pass the Voter Empowerment Act of 2013 to restore federal voting rights to the formerly incarcerated.
•Help formerly incarcerated individuals reenter society and find employment.
•Increase grant funding for the Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services, which is designed to assist law enforcement agencies in implementing community-based policing.

There are many ways for incarcerated individuals to re-enter society, the problem is the government never allows you to clear your name or pay your debt to society. The blacks and whites who have done their crime and paid their time are treated like criminals for the rest of their lives. Why not clear them? In liberal Illinois it does not matter if you committed a crime 20 years ago. They still use the 'no matter how small' crime to compound with all crimes committed in ones life, even if it was when the person was a kid. You could be a model citizen for years but the crime follows one for life. It keeps the people down and never allows a clean slate.

No proof yet, but Booker is very evasive on that issue while he decides whether it is to his political advantage. Could be a game changer if Hillary is foolish enough to challenge him.

living in redneckland my biggest concern is why white folks kill each other at a staggering rate of 84%.

i think if some of you white folks work out your issues we wouldn't need to be talking about the issues within the black community. first on the list would be owning up to your own fallibility.

I'm still reeling over the fact you and I agree on something.
But we don't know who used chemical weapons and for whose benefit or who to side with, sadly for those caught in the middle.
It might even make the world see us differently. Instead of being the "imperialists" or "cowboys", we actually are the peacekeepers.
However, Obama should not have supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Do you agree?
The Moslem Brotherhood candidate was elected by the people; that's different. If the international community wants to help the innocent Syrian families, Christians etc; then evacuate them safely out of the country. This is a interesting article on Syria;

How U.S. Strikes on Syria Help al Qaeda
by Barak Barfi Aug 28, 2013 4:45 AM EDT

The most successful rebel group in Syria is a militant jihadist group. Barak Barfi on how it came out on top.

Militants from the Qaeda affiliate the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) kidnap Westerners and fighters from other brigades with impunity. They kill leaders from the rebel-led Free Syrian Army (FSA) without the slightest fear of retribution. ISIS controls key roads, dams, and grain silos, with checkpoints everywhere. In the northern provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, and al-Raqqa, the organization is either the most or second-most powerful brigade. ISIS is an A-Team force among FSA units composed of squabbling Gomer Pyles.

ISIS’s success in Syria is nothing new. In every conflict in which jihadists participate, they quickly become the most dominant fighting force. Several factors account for their supremacy in Syria. Experience from other conflicts—including Chechnya, Iraq, and Mali—provides them with an institutional knowledge of fighting that local combatants often lack. They are frequently the most courageous warriors on the battlefield. Their martial spirit attracts the admiration of locals who seek to join their elite band of brothers. Today, American intelligence agencies believe more than 6,000 foreigners are fighting in Syria.

Current medical insurance policies are like automobile or homeowners policies without a deductible, combined with full coverage repair warranties, a lousy investment.

It happened when Reagan was President, and Reagan chose to do nothing about it.

Clinton believes Iraq had weapons of mass destruction: Portugal PM

LISBON (AFP) Jan 09, 2004
Former US president Bill Clinton said in October during a visit to Portugal that he was convinced Iraq had weapons of mass destruction up until the fall of Saddam Hussein, Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barroso said late Thursday.
"When Clinton was here recently he told me he was absolutely convinced, given his years in the White House and the access to privileged information which he had, that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction until the end of the Saddam regime," he said in an interview with Portuguese cable news channel SIC Noticias.

I totally agree with you on this one. Also, voting rights should be restored one a person has paid his debt to society.
Clearly the only way in which a person can be discriminated against for life is by making him a felon. It's not right.

Booker T. Washington believed African-Americans should "concentrate all their energies on industrial education, and accumulation of wealth, and the conciliation of the South." He believed an "industrial" education would provide skills for jobs available to the majority of African-Americans.

He thought these skills would lay the foundation for the creation of stability the African-American community required in order to move forward.

He believed that "blacks would eventually gain full participation in society by showing themselves to be responsible, reliable American citizens."

Do you really think Washington would be happy with the continued dependence and the lack of skills or education in the black community today 100 years later?
