WASHINGTON -- President Nixon didn’t have them by the White House in 1972 when they went undefeated, but the 1972-73 Miami Dolphins team got their due Tuesday, celebrating their historic season with a ceremony to mark an achievement that has yet to be eclipsed.

Thirty-one players — nearly every living member of the team —attended the White House ceremony, including legendary coach Don Shula and former assistant coach Howard Schnellenberger and former trainer Robert Lundy.

President Barack Obama said he was honoring the team because they are "all men of accomplishment and character, and it showed on the field and off the field as well."

The president, a Chicago Bears fan, joked that if he could have invited the rival Green Bay Packers to the White House after their Super Bowl victory, the Dolphins were certainly welcome after forty years.

"These Dolphins made history back before Super Bowl champs started visiting the White House," he said. "And let’s face it, this is also just a fun thing to do. I like doing it as president."

It wasn’t a common practice in the 1970s to invite championship teams, although Nixon might have been unusually distracted during the Dolphins’ historic game, which took place on Jan, 14, 1973. Although Nixon had just been re-elected, his former aides G. Gordon Liddy and James W. McCord Jr. were about to be convicted of conspiracy, burglary and wiretapping in the Watergate scandal, and his presidency was doomed.

Championship teams are frequently invited now, though. Obama, known to decompress with ESPN’s Sports Center, even shot hoops with the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team in 2009 when they visited the White House to celebrate their NCAA championship.

Obama sheepishly admitted to the Dolphins that he had already invited another team that got neglected: the 1985 Chicago Bears. The team’s victory trip to the White House had been postponed by the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.

Shula reminded the president that the Dolphins were the only team to beat his beloved Bears that season. "We beat ’em!" shouted out one of the people attending the ceremony.

Despite the distractions he faced during the 1972-73 season, Nixon remained a huge football fan who followed the Washington Redskins team closely; he was known for calling coach George Allen to suggest plays. He did the same to Shula. The Dolphins defeated the Washington Redskins.

The person in his link was taking the initiative.

However, it would appear you're claiming the conservative people who are signing others up are 'experts' in determining the status of people AFTER they leave.

If they were REALLY that smart, you'd think they'd do the legal thing an turn the documents of proof over to law enforcement instead of performing an illegal act.

Oh, and btw, it's interesting how the republican party quickly hired these law breakers after they were let go!

Amazing how you play all sides depending on your politics.

This is liberalism, brought to you by the democrats: Police say defenseless kittens were skewered by a 17-year-old with a bow and arrow. Lake County Indiana investigator Michelle Dvorscak showed us photos that a teen allegedly posed for and posted on Facebook, photos too gruesome to show.
“Two kittens on an arrow. One’s been shot through the head, it looks like one’s been shot through the body,” said Dvorscak.
The scene was an alley behind the boy’s home in East Chicago. Police say he took aim, hunting the cats about two weeks ago.
“He did confess. He said he was bored out of his mind the week before school started and decided to hunt some kittens,” said Dvorscak.
Police say staff at the Lake County Animal Adoption and Control Center took an anonymous call from someone complaining about the gruesome photos.
“What this anonymous caller did was the best thing. We got the tip, we found all the information,” said Yvonne Scott of the Lake County Animal Adoption and Control.
“They were horrible and horrific. And I don’t know how somebody could do that to a poor innocent kitten,” said Jennelle Melendy, of the Lake County Animal Adoption and Control.
They hope criminal charges against this teen will save other innocent animals and stop others from preying on pets.
“Juveniles who perpetrate these acts need to get therapy and need to pay for the crimes that they’ve committed,” said Dvorscak.
The prosecutor’s office is considering felony charges against this teen for abusing and killing the three kittens. The photos were removed from Facebook after several users complained.
Were I to catch that kid doing that to one of my family members, he/she would mysteriously disappear with nary a trace forever.....

You're a hypocrite because you give your party a pass.
hypocrite? yes you are. because you see...you have a one person ACORN.

Nathan Sproul. worked for Bush in 2004. worked for McCain in 2008. and then....

For a year, the Republican National Committee has portrayed Democrats as the villains when it comes to voter fraud.

In a provocative article on CNN’s Web site, the committee’s chairman, Reince Priebus, said,“Democrats know they benefit from election fraud.”

The tables have turned, however, and Republicans are now playing defense over the role of a well-paid operative, Nathan Sproul, in a voter registration scandal that emerged in Florida and has spread to other states.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it was reviewing “numerous” claims involving a company that Mr. Sproul runs to determine if a criminal investigation is warranted. Complaints have surfaced in 10 Florida counties, among them allegations that registrations had similar signatures or false addresses, or were filed under the names of dead people. In other cases, party affiliations appeared to have been changed.

In recent days, similar claims against Mr. Sproul have arisen in Nevada and Colorado.

Mr. Sproul, 40, a former executive director of the Arizona Christian Coalition and the Republican Party in Arizona, is well known in political circles there. Since 2004, Mr. Sproul’s companies — he has operated under several corporate names — have collected more than $17.6 million from Republican committees, candidates and the “super PAC” American Crossroads, mostly for voter registration operations, according to campaign finance records.

The Republican Party, which paid Mr. Sproul about $3 million this year for work in five states, has severed its ties with him, saying it has no tolerance for voter registration fraud.

But questions about Mr. Sproul’s methods first emerged in 2004, when one of his companies, Sproul & Associates, was paid nearly $8 million during the election cycle. The payouts made the company the seventh-biggest recipient of campaign expenditures by the committee, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics.

and here's some desert....

Republican U.S. House Staffer Pleads ‘No Contest’ To Five Election Fraud Counts

No doubt Fox ‘News’ is going wall-to-wall with this today, so you’ve got no need for us to tell you about it, right?… What? They’re not? Huh. How strange.

Well, then, if you haven’t heard, Lorianne O’Brady, a former staffer to Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) has pleaded “no contest” to five misdemeanor counts of election fraud yesterday, related to creating and submitting fraudulent signatures in a failed conspiracy to qualify McCotter for the ballot this year.

O’Brady is just one of four of top McCotter aides who were charged last month with a total of 36 federal felony and misdemeanor election fraud-related counts in the alleged ballot petition forgery scheme. McCotter abruptly resigned last July as the scandal began to emerge.

Paul Ryan did not get in front of a camera at every opportunity to paint a picture of doom and gloom with the intent to blame democrats if it backfired.
The sequester in 2013 was this president's idea. He signed it into law hoping Republicans would cave and blame them if they didn't.
It backfired on Obama instead.
The majority of Americans said the sequester in 2013 wasn't enough.
I'd call you "stupider" but it's not my style to resort to name calling.
Basic logic isn't really your strong suit is it Carol? Why would Paul Ryan go crying doom and gloom over his own plan nitwit? If it was Obama's plan why did Boehner claim that he got 98% of what he wanted?
Where did the sequestration legislation originate Carol? In the House. Who controls the House? The GOP.
Your statement "He signed it into law hoping Republicans would cave and blame them if they didn't." demonstrates that you have no idea whatsoever how the legislative process works. The President can't sign anything into law unless Congress passes it first. The sequester legislation was a compromise Carol. The GOP wanted to make the Bush tax cuts permanent across the board. Obama wanted them to stay for those making less than $250,000 a year but to let them go up on those above that level. He also wanted to keep the cut in payroll deduction for Social Security. Instead taxes went up on those making over $400,000 and stayed the same for the rest of us. Budget cuts were going to come no matter what but under sequestration they were across the board and not targeted.
I have no inclination for phony civility.
