Georgia school employee hailed as 'real hero' for talking gunman into giving up

A man slips behind someone else into a packed elementary school with AK-47 type weapon. He goes into the office and shoots at the ground, then darts between there and outside to fire at approaching police.

So what do you do?

If you're Antoinette Tuff, who works in the front office at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy just outside Atlanta, you don't run. You talk. You divulge your personal struggles to the gunman, you tell him you love him, you even proactively offer to walk outside with him to surrender so police won't shoot.

And then the nightmare ends -- with the suspect, later identified as Michael Brandon Hill, taken into custody and no one inside or outside the Decatur school even hurt, despite the gunfire.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/21/us/georgia-scho...

A day later, community members and leaders are offering praise for Tuff and police, as well as gratitude that the story did not turn tragic.

"Was the potential there to have another Sandy Hook?" admits Alexander, the police chief. "Absolutely."

well sure there was chance of it being another Sandy Hook. the guy was white wasn't he?

Christopher Lane Killing Becomes Race Issue For Conservative Pundits

A similar message was put forward by Fox News, with more embarrassing results. On Wednesday morning, "Fox & Friends" falsely reported that all three of the suspects were black, during a segment in which host Steve Doocy, like Limbaugh, brought up Trayvon Martin.

The Daily Caller made the same factual error, and compounded it by showing what it claimed to be photos of each of the suspects. The person identified by the website as Michael Jones, who is white, was a black man entirely uninvolved to the shooting.

Since you didn't have an answer to the SNAP waste, fraud, and abuse question I found this for you:
http://www.usda.gov/oig/webdocs/27002-0011-13...
Its ironic that in this post you're questioning whether States could do a better job when the report points to States' failure to properly identify and treat waste, fraud, and abuse.
The massive increase of people on food stamps in the past five years has created many more problems.

The 10 states that were reviewed in this report were still reported to have a "low rate of anomalies" and "a notable achievement in the states making significant progress".

If abuse and fraud can be found in 10 states "given the size and complexity of SNAP", how much more could be found nationwide?

It also pointed out that "SNAP participation has reached record levels".

That's the problem, isn't it?

It's only logical that states can keep abuse and fraud down much more efficiently. Let them determine the requirements based on the needs of the citizens in their own state and enforce them.

Where can we find liberal bastions California, New York, and Massachusetts? California is 43rd, getting back only $0.78 for every dollar it sends to Washington. New York is 42nd, and one penny better off, at $0.79 per dollar. Massachusetts is 40th, receiving $0.82 for every dollar it sends to DC.

This article is quite revealing.

http://reason.com/archives/2012/10/03/its-eas...

There are no jobs!" That is what people told me outside a government "jobs center" in New York City.

To check this out, I sent four researchers around the area. They quickly found 40 job openings. Twenty-four were entry-level positions. One restaurant owner told me he would hire 12 people if workers would just apply.

It made me wonder what my government does in buildings called "job centers." So I asked a college intern, Zoelle Mallenbaum, to find out. Here's what she found:

"First I went to the Manhattan Jobs Center and asked, "Can I get help finding a job?" They told me they don't do that.'We sign people up for food stamps.' I tried another jobs center. They told me to enroll for unemployment benefits."

So the "jobs" centers help people get handouts. Neither center suggested people try the 40 job openings in the neighborhood.

...There's more to the article but this is definitely the problem. The private market for jobs works better than government "job centers".

Part-time jobs increased significantly over the past six months. Full-time jobs paled in comparison.

That only suggests they've cut "waste, fraud, and abuse" in half instead of four-fold as the percentage would suggest.

So, they effectively cut "waste, fraud, and abuse" in half and we still have serious spending issues and a huge deficit, what's your next magic cure?

under the pretext of "fairness".
It is not fair that illegals do not have free health insurance paid by American tax payers.
It is not fair that Liberal black women can not have free abortion paid by Christian white male American tax payers.
It is not fair that American hating Muslim "political" refugees do not have free health care from their Kenya Muslim brother at the White House.
ObamaKare is just one of the multiple components that serve two purposes toward ending the existence of the constitutional republic. The first purpose is to make the population dependent on the federal government for health services, eliminating the faith of the people upon the economy for their sustenance. The second purpose is to drive the government into insolvency, with the predictable social disturbances, and the president can declare martial law and himself dictator, putting the ruling elite permenantly in the ultimate position of power and authority over the population of inconsequential peasants.

Why am I, a resident of TN, paying for some kid to attend Catholic School in DC? Since you can't seem to answer the question the majority of school funding comes from property taxes from within the district. Vouchers are expanding that taxation at the federal level. I thought all you goobs wanted LESS federal government not MORE. What makes it problematic for most inner-city poor is that most private schools aren't in their communities, how do their kids get to and from school?
The goal is education. The rule is the Constitution. Vouchers are a state's perogative. The federal government has no authority on the matter.
Eliminate the Department of Education and send money for education directly to the states.
