Yes thee was moron, it was called the Make Work Pay tax credit which was a 6.2% tax credit given to working middle class Americans. Was it meant to be permanent? No, but neither were the Bush tax cuts.

As for your 6.2% claim, only if your income was just $6450 per year, hardly "middle class."
This tax credit had an income limit of $75K, so much of the middle class was left out entirely.
