40 acres and a mule
But this is the second or third time I've provided history websites to Tenzing - and now you - on the subject.
But here is yet another one.
"General William T. Sherman encouraged granting a number of freed men 40 acres each of the abandoned land left in the wake of his army. During Reconstruction, however, the conflict over labor resulted in the sharecropping system. As one of the first acts of Reconstruction, President Andrew Johnson ordered all land under federal control to be returned to its previous owners."
The moral of the story: When you insist on being wrong about documented facts, you're probably wrong about a lot of things.
