Once again, the majority of blacks and Hispanics are anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage.
Society dictates its moral standards. The abolitionists brought attention to slavery and ending it. The majority joined the cause for civil rights because it was the right thing to do.
But who looks out for the rights of human beings who are unborn?
And why must society redefine something as timeless and enduring as marriage to keep those who are having temper tantrums to get their way happy?
The government should respect the will of the people. The people know what's best for the people.
If anyone tried to dictate the will of the people, it was southern democrats who tried to dictate racism. Not the other way around.
Sure Carol, and yet they voted by an overwhelming margin against the party that would ban both of those things. I'd take your outrage against abortion more seriously if you didn't prove on an almost daily basis that you really don't give a crap about these children once they're born.
Slavery wasn't ended by some great moral awakening, it was the result of the Civil War . You were a history teacher so you probably heard about it. There were those in the south who argued that slavery was moral and biblically mandated.
Marriage has already changed. Women are no longer treated as a commodity or as property, they are now equal partners in a marriage. Marriage is a legal contract that not only imposes obligations but also grants benefits. Since the government grants these advantages then they should be available to all citizens. What part of equal rights and protections under the law can't you understand? By the way Carol, a majority of the American people are perfectly okay with marriage equality.

The Government Did It(excerpt from the article)

The CRA forces banks to make loans in poor communities, loans that banks may otherwise reject as financially unsound. Under the CRA, banks must convince a set of bureaucracies that they are not engaging in discrimination, a charge that the act encourages any CRA-recognized community group to bring forward. Otherwise, any merger or expansion the banks attempt will likely be denied. But what counts as discrimination?

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the financial giants whose failed mortgage investments made them wards of the government, have accepted $2.8 billion from Bank of America to largely put to rest claims that the bank sold them faulty loans.

The cost to Bank of America was less than the potential blow some investors had expected, and the bank's stock rose 6.4 percent on the news Monday.

For Bank of America, the settlements eliminate "a doomsday scenario," said analyst Paul Miller of FBR Capital Markets.

"This is a gift" from the government to the bank, said Christopher Whalen of Institutional Risk Analytics. "We're all paying for this because it will show up in the losses from Fannie and Freddie," he said.

The deal with Fannie Mae is not airtight; it leaves open the possibility that Fannie could pursue additional claims against Bank of America. In contrast, the settlement with Freddie Mac essentially closes the book on pending and potential claims.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency, which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, approved the settlements. In a statement, the agency said the deals were "consistent with market practice and FHFA's conservatorship responsibilities."

Fannie spokeswoman Janis Smith called it a "fair and responsible resolution."

At issue is one of the biggest threats facing Bank of America and other major lenders that weathered the financial crisis with help from the government.

During the housing bubble, the banks typically sold mortgages to investors around the world, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But those investors were generally entitled to repayment by the lenders if the loans were sold on the basis of false assurances..."

"... Survey Results: CRA-Related Lending

We received responses from 143 of the 500 institutions to which we sent the survey (a 28.6 percent response rate). These responses and our follow-up telephone contacts revealed that banking institutions generally do not track profitability and performance separately for CRA-related lending, so our report emphasized qualitative results regarding profitability. Because fewer than half of the respondents answered quantitative questions on performance, one must be cautious when using these responses to draw qualitative inferences comparing the performance of CRA-related and other lending.

The results varied by loan product. Home purchase and refinance lending has the largest origination volume by far ($570 billion, of which about 10 percent is CRA-related). Responses indicated that overall as well as CRA-related home purchase and refinance lending is profitable or marginally profitable for most institutions. On a dollar-weighted basis, about 85 percent of survey respondents said that their CRA-related lending as a whole was at least marginally profitable. However, CRA-related home purchase and refinance lending was reported to be less profitable and to have similar or higher delinquency rates than other home purchase and refinance lending. Concerning this product, about 63 percent of respondents said that their CRA-related lending was less profitable than their overall lending. Differences are less dramatic when measured on a per-institution basis...."

"When you look at the facts rationally and digest exactly what they stand for, the issue becomes crystal clear. Simply put, tea party Republicans are giving hate groups a voice in mainstream politics."
