Oui, je l'ai fait. The shame of Alveda King

Every famous family has a member or three who do things that leave you in "oh no (s)he didn't" disbelief. Usually it's the Jackson family (Michael, not Jesse). Hello? Rebbie? LaToya? Jermaine? But they're not in the cross hairs today. That honor goes to the King family (Rev. Dr. Martin, not Rodney). King’s niece, Alveda King, showed up at Glenn Beck’s “Restoring America” rally to frequently invoke the “I have a dream” speech that her “Uncle Martin” immortalized on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 47 years earlier to the day.

The week leading up to the big rally, King had been flogging “Restoring America” as extension of her famous relative’s legacy. Look, it was one thing when Beck proclaimed that he was trying to reclaim the Civil Rights movement. But to be aided and abetted by a King relative, an anti-gay and pro-life one at that?

It is Alveda King’s right to do this. And I think she is dead wrong. I wasn’t alive on Aug. 29, 1963. But everything I’ve learned about the man who led the movement that made an appointment with destiny that day in Washington leads me to think that he wouldn’t appreciate a little-known relative claiming to speak for him while lending the (extended) family name and the credibility that accrues with it to a person who has so poisoned American political discourse of late.

The King children have been known to battle with each other and with other people over the monetary value of the words and image of their father. Dr. King’s legacy is precious. Alveda King on Saturday besmirched it.

The Senate confirmed all five of President Barack Obama's nominees to the National Labor Relations Board on Tuesday, marking the first time in a decade that the agency has enjoyed a full slate of confirmed board members.

It was no simple feat. The board, which enforces labor law on companies and unions, was headed toward a shutdown in August, leading Senate Democrats to threaten use of the so-called "nuclear option" to break a Republican filibuster over nominees. Republicans ultimately agreed to let Obama's labor board picks proceed in order to avoid a potentially historic change of Senate rules.

so you've never heard of the affinity of whites folks to tying a black person to the back of truck and dragging them down a back road?
why that takes more than one of you to get that done is a mystery to me. one white guy steers while another white guy pushes on the gas?
and figuring that 84% of whites are killed by whites, and 94% of blacks are killed by blacks, you'll have to do with the leftovers to satisfy your fantasy of every white murder being committed by a black person.
Those types of cases are an anomaly, and the particular one you posted was a lover's quarrel between two phags (NOT a hate crime). The fact the victim was a negro and the perp white trash was just a headline grabber. They were buddies who worked, hung out, and slept together.

LOL!! A do-nothing bureaucracy gets a few appointments passed at the 11th hour after dems expended every ounce of political capital they had by threatening the nuclear option.

Yeah; that's a big win.....:-)

NJ woman pleads guilty in animal cruelty case involving dog found in trash chute

Published July 30, 2013

Associated Press
NEWARK, N.J.– A New Jersey woman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges Tuesday in a case that sparked international headlines after an emaciated dog was found, starved and near-death, wrapped in a plastic bag and thrown down a building's garbage chute.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said Kisha Curtis pleaded guilty to fourth-degree animal cruelty. She also gave up custody of the dog. Curtis was set to go to trial on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Irvington resident was accused of tying the pit-bull to the railing in her former Newark apartment building, then leaving the state for more than a week in 2011.

The dog — named Patrick by his rescuers when he was brought in around St. Patrick's Day — was found near death in a plastic bag at the bottom of a trash chute. The dog survived and recovered. Thousands of fans followed Patrick's progress on his Facebook page. A custody fight over the dog erupted after his much-publicized plight resulted in thousands of letters and donations from around the world.

The dog has been living with a foster family after being cared for initially by the Associated Humane Societies and then Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, where he was nursed back to health.

State Superior Court Judge Joseph Cassini III will decide who will have permanent custody of Patrick. Cassini plans to issue his order at Curtis' Aug. 29 sentencing, according to the prosecutor's office.

The charge Curtis pleaded to carries up to 18 months in prison, but she may not serve time as a first offender.

Curtis was not accused of placing the dog in the trash chute, but prosecutors said she was responsible for abandoning and starving the dog, resulting in his "torment and torture."

She was previously denied entry into a pre-trial program that could have kept her record clean.
