HEY STUPID! Obama didn't come up with the idea of sequestration. Paul Ryan has been pushing for it since 2004 and in fact wrote the legislation. Boehner said that he got 98% of what he wanted in the deal. On what do you base your statement that the majority of Americans want deeper cuts? When polled on individual programs like Medicare, Social Security, Veterans programs and defense most Americans want them to get the same funding that they currently receive.
What freaking lavish galas are you talking about Carol? The White House schedule is posted on line and I haven't found anything that you can call a gala, lavish or otherwise. Obama's trips abroad have been on the nation's business like his latest trip to Africa. But I guess you like the rest of the right wing idiots on this thread would rather cede that continent with its strategically important resources to China.
If you really want to talk about wasting taxpayer dollars then how about those symbolic, going nowhere votes to repeal Obamacare? Every time they indulged in this foolishness it cost taxpayers almost $1.5 million for a total of approximately $53.8 million.
Who's hurting public servants Carol? The original stimulus package kept firefighter, police and teachers on the job and not one Republican voted for it. Since when have you been so concerned about public sector employees hypocrite? It's clear to anyone who has at least a couple of brain cells that communicate with each other that the GOP is responsible for the gridlock, not the President.
Any measure that reduces federal spending is a good thing.

I was pretty sure the math would be over your head. The 47% that don't pay "income" taxes DO pay "sales" taxes. They also pay "property" taxes, "gas" taxes, etc. There would also be more people paying "income" taxes if obstructionist Republicans would support Obama's jobs program. And there are more people raising that 47% figure adding additional "income" tax payers as the economy grows despite folks like you.
Sales taxes and property taxes don't fund the federal government.

If you want to replace the federal income tax with a consumption tax, maybe the poor will finally carry their share of the load.

A pregnant Maine woman and her friend visiting from Pennsylvania who had been rescued after getting lost hiking died when they accidentally drove their minivan off a boat ramp and into the ocean, authorities said.

Amy Stiner, 37, of Machias, and Melissa Moyer, 38, of Sunbury, Pa., presumably drowned when Stiner drove her car down the boat ramp at the end of a dead-end road at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in this town of 300 people in eastern Maine, said Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith.

Smith called the deaths a tragic accident made worse because Stiner was five months pregnant. The two were found in the back of the minivan likely due to the fact it sank from the front, The Bangor Daily News reported. A dog was also found dead inside the minivan.

"They called on the phone that they were in the water and the car was filling up. Then the phone went dead," Smith said. "An hour later, the deputies found the car."

Earlier in the evening, the women got lost while hiking in Roque Bluffs State Park amid fog and a steady downpour, the Portland Press Herald reported.

An off-duty firefighter found them and their dog and gave them rides on his ATV back to his house, where a warden picked them up and brought them to the 2001 Dodge Caravan.

Stiner then drove toward the boat ramp instead of in the other direction to Machias, Smith said. Weather could have contributed to the accident, Smith said.

"It appears they went the wrong direction and drove off the ramp," he said. "If you don't know the area, in the fog and rain it wouldn't be a difficult thing to do."

Authorities found the submerged car about 175 feet off the boat ramp, the women and the dog inside with the doors closed and the windows up.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the women were able to call 911 as the car was entering the water.

"They said they were in the water and the car was filling with the water. And then the phone just went dead," Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith told the newspaper.

Smith said blood tests will be conducted on the bodies but he did not suspect alcohol or drugs contributed to the fatal accident.

Gregg Stiner, Amy’s husband, told the Bangor Daily News that the two are organic farmers. He did not comment any further in the interview.

Judge Stops lawsuits Against Detroit Bankruptcy

A federal judge in Michigan has put the brakes on lawsuits threatening to derail Detroit's bankruptcy and declared that he will handle any challenges.

The decision Wednesday after two hours of arguments is a victory for Detroit.

A county judge last week said Gov. Rick Snyder ignored the Michigan Constitution and acted illegally in approving the Chapter 9 filing, the largest ever U.S. municipal bankruptcy.

Retirees sued, claiming their pensions are protected by the constitution and are at risk in a bankruptcy.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes suspended any pending lawsuits and barred new ones. He says his court will be the exclusive venue for any legal action regarding the bankruptcy.

Norm Ornstein, a congressional expert and scholar at the conserative American Enterprise Institute, criticized GOP leaders' efforts to "sabotage" Obamacare as "sharply beneath any reasonable standards of elected officials."

In a National Journal colum titled, "The Unprecedented—and Contemptible—Attempts to Sabotage Obamacare," Ornstein said the GOP anti-Obamacare effort is "spinning out of control" and "simply unprecedented."

He noted that after President Bush enacted the Medicare prescription drug benefit in 2003, Democrats worked with Republicans to improve it and help seniors rather than attempting to tarnish it for political gain.

Even when Democrats opposed the Iraq war, he said, "they did not try to sabotage the surge" because "[t]o do so would have been close to treasonous."

Ornstein concludes:

But to do everything possible to undercut and destroy its implementation—which in this case means finding ways to deny coverage to many who lack any health insurance; to keep millions who might be able to get better and cheaper coverage in the dark about their new options; to create disruption for the health providers who are trying to implement the law, including insurers, hospitals, and physicians; to threaten the even greater disruption via a government shutdown or breach of the debt limit in order to blackmail the president into abandoning the law; and to hope to benefit politically from all the resulting turmoil—is simply unacceptable, even contemptible. One might expect this kind of behavior from a few grenade-throwing firebrands. That the effort is spearheaded by the Republican leaders of the House and Senate—even if Speaker John Boehner is motivated by fear of his caucus, and McConnell and Cornyn by fear of Kentucky and Texas Republican activists—takes one's breath away.

wrong.

"And today I am announcing that the Justice Department will ask a federal court in Texas to subject the State of Texas to a preclearance regime similar to the one required by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. This request to “bail in” the state – and require it to obtain “pre-approval” from either the Department or a federal court before implementing future voting changes – is available under the Voting Rights Act when intentional voting discrimination is found. Based on the evidence of intentional racial discrimination that was presented last year in the redistricting case, Texas v. Holder – as well as the history of pervasive voting-related discrimination against racial minorities that the Supreme Court itself has recognized – we believe that the State of Texas should be required to go through a preclearance process whenever it changes its voting laws and practices.

This is the Department’s first action to protect voting rights following the Shelby County decision, but it will not be our last."

The poor already do carry a significant load of the tax burden since most states already have sales and 'sin' taxes that raise government revenue. These are examples of 'consumption taxes' that disproportionately target the poor. So, why shouldn't we balance it out by increasing the luxury tax and death tax on large estate inheritances too?

Daughter Of Georgia Mom Whose Baby Was Killed Claims Mom May Have Killed Him For Insurance Money
Ashley Glassey, 21, daughter of Sherry West, the mother of a 13-month old baby who was allegedly shot by De’Marquise Elkins while they were out for a morning stroll, believes that her mother may have killed the baby for the insurance money, reports First Coast News.
Glassy says that her mother lost custody of her when she was 8-years-old but they have spoken regularly since 13-month old Antonio Santiago was fatally shot in the face. According to Glassy, her mother’s story has changed several times.
Glassey said she started to have her doubts after receiving a phone call from her mother telling her that her brother, Antonio Santiago, had been killed. She claims the night of the shooting her mother asked,“How soon do you think life insurance policy will send me a check?”
