...and this is of interest in what way?A woman swam to safety in the Chesapeake Bay Friday night after her car plunged 40 feet off the Bay Bridge following a collision.
The woman was taken by helicopter to the shock trauma unit of the University of Maryland hospital. When rescue personnel reached her she was conscious and breathing, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel county fire department said.
The 8:35 p.m. crash, about one quarter mile from shore, shut down the bridge which normally carries traffic toward the Eastern Shore and Atlantic Ocean resorts. The backup was about four miles at 10:30 p.m,. the state police said.
The 22-year-old woman, who was not identified immediately, was “very fortunate,” said Battalion Chief Steve Thompson, a county fire department spokesman. He said she swam from her car to a bridge piling.
The crash involved a tractor trailer and two cars, Thompson said.
Great reporting. Given that the woman swam from her car to a bridge piling, seems redundant to state that she was "conscious and breathing."
Next Patrick will be reporting results from his croquet tournament.
