A jury's acquittal of George Zimmerman in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin sparked waves of disappointment, from some of the nation's best-known civil rights leaders to the streets outside a Sanford, Fla., courthouse.

A clearly shaken NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous said, "This is a heartbreaking moment. This will confirm for many that the only problem with the New South is it occupies the same time and space as the old South."

NOT GUILTY: Zimmerman acquitted

'SYSTEM HAS FAILED': Crowds react to verdict

He referenced another killing of a black youth that many have compared to the Trayvon Martin slaying, the 1955 killing of 14-year-old Emmett Till, who was killed in Mississippi for allegedly flirting with a white woman. "Trayvon Martin's case has focused a generation the same way that the Emmett Till case focused a generation 60 years ago. I had hoped that this time we would get a verdict that fit the gravity of the case."

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who led thousands of protesters in Sanford seeking a prosecution of Trayvon's killer, called the verdict "a sad day in the country" and "a slap in the face to those that believe in justice in this country." http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/201...

O.J. Simpson on the cover of Newsweek and TIME.

The O. J. Simpson murder case (officially called the People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson) was a criminal trial held in Los Angeles County, California Superior Court that spanned from the primary jury being sworn in on November 2, 1994[1] to opening statements on January 24, 1995[2] to a verdict on October 3, 1995.[3] Former American football star and actor O. J. Simpson was tried on two counts of murder following the June 1994 deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Lyle Goldman. The case has been described as the most publicized criminal trial in American history.[4] Simpson was acquitted after a lengthy trial that lasted over eight months which was presided over by Judge Lance Ito.[5]

Yes; and when you consider the following case, where no one was killed, you'll realize it even more:

TAMPA, Fla.-- Marissa Alexander had never been arrested before she fired a bullet at a wall one day in 2010 to scare off her husband when she felt he was threatening her. Nobody got hurt, but this month a northeast Florida judge was bound by state law to sentence her to 20 years in prison.

Alexander, a 31-year-old mother of a toddler and 11-year-old twins, knew it was coming. She had claimed self-defense, tried to invoke Florida's "stand your ground" law and rejected plea deals that could have gotten her a much shorter sentence. A jury found her guilty as charged: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Because she fired a gun while committing a felony, Florida's mandatory-minimum gun law dictated the 20-year sentence.

You mean Zimmerman never would have been charged.
What makes you think I'm in a hurry? A better question would be why do you want them to drag things out? Jurors deliberated for 15 hours in the Jodi Arias case. 10 hours 40 minutes for Casey Anderson. 14 hours for Drew Petersen and 4 hours for OJ Simpson. Just seems to me this case was not nearly as complicated as any of those cases.
I disagree that Zimmerman "would have never been charged if the racists (Obama/Holder & Sharpton) did not pressure the local authorities." The mayor of Sanford was the one who was demanding that Zimmerman be arrested. Not Obama. Not the DOJ. According to the police chief, "It was (relayed) to me that they (city officials) just wanted an arrest. They didn't care if it got dismissed later." It was the Mayor of Sanford who took it upon himself to highjacked the case from the police department and that was wrong.
However, at this point, the manner in which the case made it to the courtroom is irrelevant. It does not affect the evidence one way or the other. I'm not going to second guess that decision. Trayvon got his day in court and I don't have a problem with it.
Based on the prosecution's case, I was totally expecting a quick verdict of acquittal and am surprised to see the jury taking so long to deliberate but, whatever the verdict, it will be fair and not influenced by any action taken by Obama or the DOJ. Justice will be served.
What is your basis for defending the Obama/Holder Justice Department about abusing their power again?

You "claim" the "Mayor" did it is plain silly.

FOIA docs show Holder's Justice Department aided Zimmerman protests
Rick Moran

I know it won't do any good, but, for the record: Fire Eric Holder.

Documents obtained through an FOIA request from the Department of Justice by Judicial Watch reveal that a little known unit deep inside DoJ was tasked with assisting community groups in Florida with organizing and running demonstrations in favor of putting George Zimmerman on trial.

JW filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the DOJ on April 24, 2012; 125 pages were received on May 30, 2012. JW administratively appealed the request on June 5, 2012, and received 222 pages more on March 6, 2013. According to the documents:
•March 25 - 27, 2012, CRS spent $674.14 upon being "deployed to Sanford, FL, to work marches, demonstrations, and rallies related to the shooting and death of an African-American teen by a neighborhood watch captain."
•March 25 - 28, 2012, CRS spent $1,142.84 "in Sanford, FL to work marches, demonstrations, and rallies related to the shooting and death of an African-American teen by a neighborhood watch captain.
•March 30 - April 1, 2012, CRS spent $892.55 in Sanford, FL "to provide support for protest deployment in Florida."
•March 30 - April 1, 2012, CRS spent an additional $751.60 in Sanford, FL "to provide technical assistance to the City of Sanford, event organizers, and law enforcement agencies for the march and rally on March 31."
•April 3 - 12, 2012, CRS spent $1,307.40 in Sanford, FL "to provide technical assistance, conciliation, and onsite mediation during demonstrations planned in Sanford."
•April 11 - 12, 2012, CRS spent $552.35 in Sanford, FL "to provide technical assistance for the preparation of possible marches and rallies related to the fatal shooting of a 17 year old African American male."

The Florida criminal justice system has sent two clear messages today," Brown said afterward. "One is that if women who are victims of domestic violence try to protect themselves, the `Stand Your Ground Law' will not apply to them.... The second message is that if you are black, the system will treat you differently."

Victor Crist was a Republican state legislator who crafted the "10-20-life" bill enacted in 1999 in Gov. Jeb Bush's first term. He said Alexander's sentence – if she truly did fire a warning shot and wasn't trying to kill her husband – is not what lawmakers wanted.

A judge threw out Alexander's "stand your ground" self-defense claim, noting that she could have run out of the house to escape her husband but instead got the gun and went back inside. Alexander rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in a three-year prison sentence and chose to go to trial. A jury deliberated 12 minutes before convicting her.

"The irony of the 10-20-life law is the people who actually think they're innocent of the crime, they roll the dice and take their chances, and they get the really harsh prison sentences," Newburn said. "Whereas the people who think they are actually guilty of the crime take the plea deal and get out (of prison) well before. So it certainly isn't working the way it is intended."

Her family says that doesn't erase the fact that a relatively law-abiding person – a woman with a master's degree – who was making positive contributions to society will endure prison for two decades over a single violation in which no one was hurt.

"She had a restraining order against him. Now Marissa is incarcerated and he's not," said her father, Raoul Jenkins. "I'm wrestling with that in my mind and trying to determine how the system worked that detail out. It's really frustrating

George Zimmerman Sues NBC for Portraying Him as a 'Racist and Predatory Villain'

George Zimmerman, the man facing second-degree murder charges in one of the most racially charged and controversial cases in recent memory is seeking damages against NBC for portraying him as a "racist and predatory villain."

The suit, filed claims, "NBC saw the death of Trayvon Martin not as a tragedy, but as an opportunity to increase ratings."

The suit claims the network pounced on the story in large part to help aid the ailing ratings of its morning program, "The Today Show." It centers around "manipulated" exchanges between George Zimmerman and a non-emergency dispatcher shortly before unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed. The audio aired a few times on several NBC platforms beginning March 19.

The suit blames NBC in large part for the media frenzy surrounding the case and hostilities against Zimmerman.

Self-defense is a basic human right.

The Obama/Holder Injustice Department and the Democrats race-baiters tried to deny Zimmerman of that right.

Zimmerman was assaulted and Martin initiated the violence.

The Democrat supporting Obama voters likely will reassure us who the violent antisocial anti-American elements of our society people are by committing more violence.

OK lily and the rest of you morons here, you can now go get your pitchforks, caveman clubs and fire sticks to go and try have your lynching now!!!!!
