The Gulf of Tonkin incident (or the USS Maddox incident) is the name given to two separate confrontations involving North Vietnam and the United States in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. On August 2, 1964, the destroyer USS Maddox, while performing a signals intelligence patrol as part of DESOTO operations, engaged three North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats of the 135th Torpedo Squadron. A sea battle resulted, in which the Maddox expended over two hundred and eighty 3-inch and 5-inch shells, and in which four USN F-8 Crusader jet fighter bombers strafed the torpedo boats. One US aircraft was damaged, one 14.5 mm round hit the destroyer, three North Vietnamese torpedo boats were damaged, and four North Vietnamese sailors were killed and six were wounded; there were no U.S. casualties.
The second Tonkin Gulf incident was originally claimed by the U.S. National Security Agency to have occurred on August 4, 1964, as another sea battle, but instead may have involved "Tonkin Ghosts" (false radar images) and not actual NVN torpedo boat attacks.

So whose rights were violated dumbass? No one has a right to a 501(c)(4) status, you have to demonstrate that your organization fits the legal definition as a social welfare group and you are free to operate under that status while it's being determined. None of these so called "conservative " groups were denied .

Get Ready for More GOP Race-Baiting

Forget creating a big tent. Some Republicans want their party to simply try to win more white votes.

....Republicans and the people they represent—that is, the sliver of people they care about representing—don’t want any outreach. They almost certainly won’t let a path to citizenship get through the House. And they’ll attack minorities in other ways, too. It’s been mostly civil-rights advocates who’ve denounced the Supreme Court’s Voting Rights Act decision, and one can obviously see why. But trust me, that decision, as Bloomberg’s Josh Green shrewdly noted the day it came down, is a “poisoned chalice” for the GOP.

Why? Just look at what’s already happened since the decision was announced—the party is launching voter-suppression drives in six of the nine freshly liberated states. All the states, of course, are down South. These drives might “work.” But they will attract an enormous amount of negative publicity, and they’ll probably induce massive backlashes and counter-movements. This effort will lead to even greater distrust of the GOP by people of color, and it will reinforce the captive Southern-ness of the party, making it even more Southern than it already is. And Republicans won’t stop, because they can’t stop. Race-baiting is their crack pipe.

And here’s the worst part of this story. If the House Republicans kill immigration reform, and Republican parties across the South double down to keep blacks from voting, then they really will need to jack up the white vote—and especially the old white vote—in a huge way to be competitive in 2016 and beyond. Well, they’re not going to do that by mailing out Lawrence Welk CDs. They’re going to run heavily divisive and racialized campaigns, worse than we’ve ever seen out of Nixon or anyone. Their only hope of victory will be to make a prophet of Trende—that is, reduce the Democrats’ share of the white vote to something in the mid- to low-30 percent range. That probably can’t happen, but there’s only one way it might. Run the most racially inflamed campaign imaginable.

That’s the near-term future we’re staring at. We can take satisfaction in the fact that it’s bad for them, but unfortunately, it’s not so good for the country.

The New Right-Wing "ObamaCars" Conspiracy Theory Is Heinously Dumb

A new rumor is making the rounds—first on Breitbart, then Fox News and beyond—that the Senate's immigration reform bill contains a provision that could provide free, taxpayer-subsidized cars, scooters, motorcycles, Segways, hovercraft, and god knows what to young Americans. The supposed nationwide government-sponsored "ObamaCar" giveaway would happen during a 15-month period following passage of the legislation. America will grow weaker and poorer; our enemies, foreign and domestic, will be emboldened.

I've reached out to the White House for comment on the existence of the government's top-secret car-gifting plot, but have not yet received a response. Instead of allowing the Obama administration's silence to fuel any suspicions you may have about the Far-Reaching ObamaCar Conspiracy, here's a fleck of reassurance: There is absolutely nothing to this allegation. At all. You can add it to the long list of explosively wrong and heinously dumb conservative memes that have cropped up in the Obama era.

"An amendment by [Sen. Bernie] Sanders to the immigration bill would provide a youth jobs program that includes the possibility of transportation and child care services," PolitiFact notes. "That prompted conservative news outlets to make claims such as,'New Immigration bill has taxpayer subsidized Obamacars for youths'...There is no proof to support the idea that the program would include free car, motorcycle or scooter giveaways. In fact, that such a process would end up allowing car giveaways seems laughable."

And if PolitiFact's thorough takedown doesn't convince you, here's a fact-check courtesy of the office of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)—a man who isn't exactly known for leaping to President Obama's defense:

MYTH: The new Hoeven-Corker Amendment creates a special program with taxpayer money to give free cars, motorcycles, or scooters to young people 15 months after the bill passes.

[...]

FACT: There are absolutely no cars, motorcycles, or scooters for young Americans in the immigration bill, and no taxpayer dollars will be used to fund the new jobs program for American youth.

So there you have it. If you buy the vehicle-giveaway story, you might as well believe that Marco Rubio chows down on $16 muffins while using his very own Obamaphone to mass-text Friends of Hamas while driving his brand new ObamaCar to work.

THERE ARE NO CUTS IN MEDICARE TO DOCTORS IN OBAMACARE.

My God you people are dumber than sh*t.

The cuts in payments stem from a law passed in 1997 that adjusted payments based "by comparing the percentage increase in Medicare payments to doctors to the percentage increase in the GDP."

In the past, this was overridden in Congress by the "doc fix".

This "doc fix" was originally in the ACA but Republicans ran in circles screaming how expensive it was.

Republicans controlled Congress when this law was passed & had plenty of opportunities to fix it.

Comparing the payments to the GDP during the Bush recession & its effects cut those payments.

But hey, let it up to right whiners to blame Obama for not fixing a problem they created in both writing the law & creating the recession.

You asked a stupid question - how did I know abortions have skyrocketed since Roe v Wade - I answered it, and now you're arguing with yourself because you didn't like the answer.
Ignorance is bliss. The reality of abortion is not high on the liberal's agenda in preventing them by educating young women about the consequences of unprotected sex. The reality of a fetus having a heartbeat, vital organs, brain development and limbs and looking just like a baby before the end of the first trimester is nowhere on their agenda.
Planned Parenthood does not perform sonograms to show women what they are about to remove from their bodies to help them make an informed decision. For a reason. It would be too costly since abortions are the money makers for Planned Parenthood.
Liberals are now demanding abortions be legal after 20 weeks. If abortion isn't considered murder in the first trimester, it certainly is by the fifth month.
So basically you condone the killing of human life. Just admit it.
Wrong again carol, you made a statement without even a scintilla of evidence to back it up and your response as well as this post are also totally devoid of any factual basis.
Abortions account for only 3% of the services Planned Parenthood provides as opposed to 41% for STD screening and treatment, 32% for contraception and 12% for cancer treatment and prevention.
Sonograms are an unnecessary procedure whose only purpose in these cases is to introduce shame in an already difficult decision.
Those of us on the left are wholly in favor of legislation that makes abortion unnecessary such as Rosa DeLauro's Preventing Unintended Pregnancies, Reducing the Need for Abortion, and Supporting Pregnant Women Act, comprehensive legislation that pairs prevention programs like increased access to contraception for low-income women and comprehensive sex education with support programs for pregnant women and new moms, including expanded health coverage for pregnant women and children, a national adoption campaign and support for pregnant and parenting students. It aims to reduce the prevalence of abortion by addressing its root causes: unintended pregnancies and the lack of resources and help for women who become pregnant. Each year, roughly 1.2 million women undergo an abortion and approximately one out of every five pregnancies ended in abortion. Nearly half of all pregnancies are unintended and about 60 percent of abortions are had by women with incomes at 200 percent or below of the poverty line.
The only thing that ideologues like you want to do is ban abortions which would not end them but drive them underground and put women into the hands of more Kermit Gosnells.
