The Truthiness Is Out There

OK, this is awesome. Dylan Byers at Politico gets Erick son of Erick to respond to my observation that, although he rants about the rising prices of milk and bread ó which somehow has something to do with pundits riding the Acela ó the truth is that milk and bread prices have been flat for about five years, and in particular have gone nowhere despite all that money the Fed has printed. And Ericksonís response is, hey, it isnít true, but people feel that itís true:

Not everything is academic or chartable and sometimes the accuracy of the chart isnít as real to people as the perception they have that their grocery store bills are getting more expensive though their shopping habits havenít changed.

Ö

Seriously, Paulís point is correct, but it is an issue of perception of people versus the reality of his chart. He can certainly go tell people milk prices havenít gone up, but good luck getting them to believe him.

Notice, by the way, the implication that I donít appreciate the problems real people (who donít eat quiche or ride the Acela) are facing; actually, I do, but those problems are lack of jobs and stagnant wages, not rising prices. And if you want to solve problems, getting the nature of those problems right matters.

But then, only elitists want to solve problems; true men of the people just vent, and what matters is perception, not truth.

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/28/t...

new FOX motto: Perception, not truth.

oh wait. that's the old FOX motto.

Employers have no idea what's coming down the pike after January 1. Most Americans don't even know what's coming down the pike after January 1.
Was Obamacare more of a priority than jobs and the economy in 2009???
Are employers going to provide opportunities - even if they exist - if it's going to end up costing them more money to provide those opportunities under the penalties and regulations of Obamacare???
Sometimes you people really do make my head want to explode.

The Supreme Court ruled Obamacare was a tax.
Get it? A tax. Hope you don't need the money the government is going to take from you to cover it. Your take home pay already shrunk since last January.
The fact that it is a tax and not a penalty or fine has significant influence on the ability to change the level of taxation in the future.

Again, your ignorance - willful or otherwise - astonishes me.

Of the top 10 wealthiest in Congress, the majority are Democrats.

How many vacation homes do you suppose Kerry, Feinstein and Rockefeller have? Just to name a few?

You really do need some perspective, LNC. Desperately.

Charities and compassionate people who donate to them do more for the poor than the government could possibly ever do. The government is already too big to keep track of what it's already screwing up.

We've thrown millions upon millions at the War on Poverty since Johnson.

Safety nets will always be in place no matter who holds the power - they've been there under every single administration since being put in place.

You can't help people who either can't be helped or don't want to be helped. It's that plain and simple.

Do the best you can to help as many as you can. That's what I do. That's what we all can do.

The government can provide a safety net - as it should - that's all it can do and all it has done and always will do.

One major obstacle to most people looking for work is their unwillingness to relocate to where the jobs are. The inner city will not be that place any time in the near future because the costs of operating there are simply too high.

So blacks shouldn't start at the bottom like millions of others do?

What are you saying here, Homer?

Obama did not focus on jobs and the economy but Obamacare and why we're even having this discussion.

Low wage earners is a reality for low-skilled workers. Always has.

If you want to talk about increasing minimum wage, I'm all ears, because I believe the cost of living has grown and minimum wages haven't kept up.

But without employers willing to hire because of the unknowns of Obamacare, even raising the minimum wage is pointless.

Right?

Unless Barry is afraid to have Snowden back where he could testify in court about NSA abuses of civil liberties.
You know as well as I that the Department of Justice is working on getting Snowden back to the United States. The fact that President Obama has placed limits on how far we are willing to go makes common sense. Ecuador needs us. We don't need Ecuador.

And, we certainly don't need Snowden back in the United States. Sure, trying him for espionage, theft of government property, leaking national defense information and revealing classified information about communications intelligence would be ideal but expelling him to Ecuador for the rest of his life is fine with me. At least the tax payers won't be picking up the tab for a lengthy trial and 30+ years of imprisonment.

From everything I have read and heard, we know exactly what information Snowden has in his possession. He has done irreparable damage to our country but the damage has been done. Terrorists now know how to protect themselves from our surveillance programs thanks to traitor Snowden.

In fact, all Galt suggested was that women were being treated as second-class citizens because abortion clinics are not held to the same standards as other outpatient surgical facilities.
There is no such right, but that's another story.
Yes, U S abortion clinics are held to a higher 'standard' set by the Federal Government.

That's where Galt is wrong. As gas prices rise, commuter transportation to and from the suburbs becomes more expensive and companies and their younger, more mobile-friendly work force are moving back to complete cities that provide a variety of less-expensive mas transit options, bus, train, bike and car share, etc., affordable mixed-use housing, commercial buildings, entertainment, and pleasure.
