Get Ready for More GOP Race-Baiting
Forget creating a big tent. Some Republicans want their party to simply try to win more white votes.
....Republicans and the people they represent—that is, the sliver of people they care about representing—don’t want any outreach. They almost certainly won’t let a path to citizenship get through the House. And they’ll attack minorities in other ways, too. It’s been mostly civil-rights advocates who’ve denounced the Supreme Court’s Voting Rights Act decision, and one can obviously see why. But trust me, that decision, as Bloomberg’s Josh Green shrewdly noted the day it came down, is a “poisoned chalice” for the GOP.
Why? Just look at what’s already happened since the decision was announced—the party is launching voter-suppression drives in six of the nine freshly liberated states. All the states, of course, are down South. These drives might “work.” But they will attract an enormous amount of negative publicity, and they’ll probably induce massive backlashes and counter-movements. This effort will lead to even greater distrust of the GOP by people of color, and it will reinforce the captive Southern-ness of the party, making it even more Southern than it already is. And Republicans won’t stop, because they can’t stop. Race-baiting is their crack pipe.
And here’s the worst part of this story. If the House Republicans kill immigration reform, and Republican parties across the South double down to keep blacks from voting, then they really will need to jack up the white vote—and especially the old white vote—in a huge way to be competitive in 2016 and beyond. Well, they’re not going to do that by mailing out Lawrence Welk CDs. They’re going to run heavily divisive and racialized campaigns, worse than we’ve ever seen out of Nixon or anyone. Their only hope of victory will be to make a prophet of Trende—that is, reduce the Democrats’ share of the white vote to something in the mid- to low-30 percent range. That probably can’t happen, but there’s only one way it might. Run the most racially inflamed campaign imaginable.
That’s the near-term future we’re staring at. We can take satisfaction in the fact that it’s bad for them, but unfortunately, it’s not so good for the country.

Ya mean they don't oppose the bill because the bill grows the government; because its going to add $30 billion to the credit card or $30 billion in more taxes?

Well, I guess they haven't been Taxed Enough Already after all.

You asked a stupid question - how did I know abortions have skyrocketed since Roe v Wade - I answered it, and now you're arguing with yourself because you didn't like the answer.
Ignorance is bliss. The reality of abortion is not high on the liberal's agenda in preventing them by educating young women about the consequences of unprotected sex. The reality of a fetus having a heartbeat, vital organs, brain development and limbs and looking just like a baby before the end of the first trimester is nowhere on their agenda.
Planned Parenthood does not perform sonograms to show women what they are about to remove from their bodies to help them make an informed decision. For a reason. It would be too costly since abortions are the money makers for Planned Parenthood.
Liberals are now demanding abortions be legal after 20 weeks. If abortion isn't considered murder in the first trimester, it certainly is by the fifth month.
So basically you condone the killing of human life. Just admit it.
Wrong again carol, you made a statement without even a scintilla of evidence to back it up and your response as well as this post are also totally devoid of any factual basis.
Abortions account for only 3% of the services Planned Parenthood provides as opposed to 41% for STD screening and treatment, 32% for contraception and 12% for cancer treatment and prevention.
Sonograms are an unnecessary procedure whose only purpose in these cases is to introduce shame in an already difficult decision.
Those of us on the left are wholly in favor of legislation that makes abortion unnecessary such as Rosa DeLauro's Preventing Unintended Pregnancies, Reducing the Need for Abortion, and Supporting Pregnant Women Act, comprehensive legislation that pairs prevention programs like increased access to contraception for low-income women and comprehensive sex education with support programs for pregnant women and new moms, including expanded health coverage for pregnant women and children, a national adoption campaign and support for pregnant and parenting students. It aims to reduce the prevalence of abortion by addressing its root causes: unintended pregnancies and the lack of resources and help for women who become pregnant. Each year, roughly 1.2 million women undergo an abortion and approximately one out of every five pregnancies ended in abortion. Nearly half of all pregnancies are unintended and about 60 percent of abortions are had by women with incomes at 200 percent or below of the poverty line.
The only thing that ideologues like you want to do is ban abortions which would not end them but drive them underground and put women into the hands of more Kermit Gosnells.

Democrats do not support policies the majority of Americans do if you go to the Topix home page and look at the various issues Topix users vote on.

This also holds true with Obamacare. We have seen credible polls over the past couple of years and they are pretty consistent.

Let's hope the Democrats Ministry of Propaganda becomes less effective. More and more people also do not trust this lamestream media.

That was a desperate spin on the liberals' part. And you bought it. Were any progressive organizations denied tax exemption?
Did the IRS send the FBI to progressives asking them what they said in their prayers, what books they read or the names and addresses of all the members in their organization and leaked them to a hard rightwing conservative website which they published?
If you don't recognize this as KBG tactics and a gross infringement on civil liberties and that this would have never been tolerated before this administration, you're helplessly lost.
It's not spin nitwit it's actual facts. Yes Carol three progr4essive groups Emerge Maine, Emerge Massachusetts and Emerge Nevada were denied 501(c)(4) status. How many "conservative groups were denied? NONE!
The IRS didn't send FBI agents out to question anybody all groups got the same questions.

That's very debatable..... but under no circumstances should the NSA be given a pass.

End the entitlement of presidents and governors to give pardons. Prosecute appointed officials for doing the dirty work of politicians.

While you're at it, make judges accountable to the people when they overstep their authority and allow the public to bring up charges against Congressmen if they inaccurately report on government spending and the activities of government organizations that operate secretly under the umbrella of security.

Obviously, there needs to be a buffer against impulsive public opinion, but make sure that there is a working process for correcting government abuses.

As far as private lives are concerned, an elected official simply is not entitled to a single thing that the most common citizen isn't. If they feel that they need privacy, then why on Earth doesn't any American also have that right? Is it simply understood that some people aren't presidential material?

Don't get all pious with everyone. You can talk the way you do because you're hiding behind a web site. When the cameras are pointing at you, then you can defend who you want to defend and take your chances for doing so.

America Under Attack

Amnesty Bill’s $3,000 Penalty for Hiring Americans

If it isn’t clear yet that the federal government is hostile to the American population, the fingers poked in our eye by the Schumer/Rubio amnesty outrage should get the point across. Combined with ObamaCare, it actually fines employers $3,000 for hiring Americans rather than foreigners who snuck into the country illegally. Read it and rage:

As I’ve outlined previously, under Obamacare, businesses with over 50 workers that employ American citizens without offering them qualifying health insurance could be subject to fines of up to $3,000 per worker. But because newly legalized immigrants wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies on the Obamacare exchanges until after they become citizens – at least 13 years under the Senate bill – businesses could avoid such fines by hiring the new immigrants instead.…

In a free market, if a new immigrant worker can do a job better than an American worker for a cheaper price, there shouldn’t be a problem with a business hiring the immigrant. But when the immigration bill interacts with Obamacare’s employer mandate, it functions as a reverse tariff against hiring American citizens. It would be like subjecting Americans to a $3,000 tax on purchasing American cars, while allowing them to avoid that tax by purchasing cars from Germany, Japan, or any other country other than America. That’s not free trade. That’s government rigging the game against American citizens.

THERE ARE NO CUTS IN MEDICARE TO DOCTORS IN OBAMACARE.
My God you people are dumber than sh*t.
The cuts in payments stem from a law passed in 1997 that adjusted payments based "by comparing the percentage increase in Medicare payments to doctors to the percentage increase in the GDP."
In the past, this was overridden in Congress by the "doc fix".
This "doc fix" was originally in the ACA but Republicans ran in circles screaming how expensive it was.
Republicans controlled Congress when this law was passed & had plenty of opportunities to fix it.
Comparing the payments to the GDP during the Bush recession & its effects cut those payments.
But hey, let it up to right whiners to blame Obama for not fixing a problem they created in both writing the law & creating the recession.
Dave, doctors are dropping Medicare patients. Your whine does not explain why this happening.

Try something that doesn't have "but Bush" in the reason.
