In a recent blog post, Paul Krugman compares the response of the Bush administration to the 2001 recession to that of the Obama administration to the Great Recession, and finds that president Bush oversaw a response that was quite superior. Referring to current fiscal policy as "amazing" in how bad it is, he argues that W's policies, including to some extent the war in Afghanistan and the liberation of Iraq, helped the U.S. economy recover from the outfall of the tech bubble burst and the 9/11 attacks.

The graph shows how different Obama's response to the Great Recession has been: in spite of persistent high unemployment, government spending, even in nominal terms, slowed relatively soon after the recession – and where Krugman claims that Bush helped the recovery through his national-security policies, Obama hindered it.

The IRS targeted liberal groups as well as conservatives for extra scrutiny in tax exempt applications, using the term "progressive" among other liberal sounding terms to screen for groups engaged in political activity, multiple congressional sources tell CNN.

The revelation that "progressives" were targeted like "tea party" groups came after the IRS delivered more than 20 "Be on the lookout memos" known as BOLOS to congressional committees in conjunction with the IRS internal review of the controversial practice released Monday.

Well, that's just a ridiculous comparison.
Clinton had the dot.com bubble that eventually burst just in time for his exit and a Republican congress who stabilized the budget even though Clinton was smart enough to go along with them.
Bush not only had 9/11 temporarily disrupting job growth but, by the end of his term, had the housing market collapse also which would obviously affect the overall job growth percentage number.
He isn't to blame for either crises. So those numbers of comparison have no comparison to other presidents who didn't have a 9/11 or a housing market collapse on their watch.
When George W. Bush took office on Jan. 20, 2001, the S&P 500 stock market index stood at $1,342.54.

The day he left office, it was $805.22, a drop of 40 percent

<quoted text>O'bama now has the worst track record. Your article is from 2009--O'bama wishes he could have GW Bush's low unemployment rates. But O'bama is too stupid--and not only that-he doesn't care.
When Bush began his first term in January 2001, total nonfarm employment was 132.47 million. When his second term began four years later, it was 132.45 million, or effectively zero job growth.

Obama's first term isn't technically over yet, but so far, employment has risen from 133.56 million in January 2009 to 134.02 million in the latest report, for December 2012. That's a net gain of about 460,000 or 0.3 percent. As paltry as that is, it beats Bush's first-term performance.

what surprises me is that you folks who voted for the Republican non-job creators in Congress even try to go after Obama about jobs.

The design of these tax cuts was ill-conceived, resulting in significantly less economic stimulus than could have been accomplished for the same budgetary cost. In part because the tax cuts were not as effective as alternative measures would have been, job creation during this recovery has been notably worse than in any other recovery since the end of World War II.

MSN Money

Sweeping tax cuts passed in June 2001 came at a time when the economy was in a recession on the heels of the dot-com bust...which Clinton capitalized on during the boon and narrowly escaped when it burst.

Then came 9/11 and the subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Still, the deficit actually shrank between 2004 and 2007.

The unemployment rate was 4.2% at the start of 2001. The economic drag of 9/11 contributed to a slight rise in unemployment. At the World Trade Center, 1100 businesses were disrupted. It took four years before the unemployment rate returned to its pre-9/11 level but stabilized at a healthy 5% or below in the mid to late 2000s.

Today, about 14 million Americans are out of work, and there are few signs of rapid improvement on the labor front. Long-term unemployment remains a stubborn problem, with 6.0 million workers unemployed for at least 27 weeks.

And we can thank Clinton and his democrats for putting the Community Reinvestment Act on steroids as the cause for the eventual housing market collapse.

The economic crisis began in the Clinton era. It didn't reach fruitition until the end of the Bush era.

Don't blame Bush if the economy collapsed at the end of his watch when Clinton created the first cracks in the foundation.

Chokwe Lumumba: Revolutionary Mayor of Jackson Mississippi, New Afrikan Republic

Who is Chokwe Lumumba? Why should anyone but the citizens of Jackson, Mississippi care about their new Mayor?

Elected in May, Mr. Lumumba is already making his mark on the city, charting a new direction – one that may have implications far beyond Jackson, indeed far beyond Mississippi.

In 1983, the Communist Party USA and Democratic Socialists of America took advantage of a split electoral race to elect their candidate, radical lawyer and former Congressman, Harold Washington, as Mayor of Chicago.

Washington appointed hundreds of leftists to city positions and solidified a movement that went on to election two more allies: Carol Moseley Braun and then Barack Obama to the U.S. Senate from Illinois.

Last month, history repeated itself in one of the South’s largest Black majority towns. Activists in Jackson, Mississippi took another advantage of another split field to steer one of their leaders, Chokwe Lumumba, into the mayoralty.

While Harold Washington was aligned with the pro-Soviet left, Lumumba is even more extreme. He is a 40-year veteran of the Maoist/black nationalist current of the U.S. left, a stream renowned for its violence and militancy.

Marxists from all over the U.S. traveled to Jackson in the final weeks of the campaign to push Lumumba over the top...

Really like O'bama's brother who doesn't even live in this country? they back-dated his because people were drawing attention to it. So do you really think they scrutinized liberals? or commies? or moslems? Moslem CAIR-not hadn't filed a proper form for three years--and yet? they were approved. On the Truth -a- meter I say what you posted is patently false.

Meaningless without looking at the entire chart and the factors that affected it.

For example, most of the decline was in the last three months of 2008, caused by fear of Obama.
