After decades of running up the debt under Presidents like Reagan, we finally had a balanced budget at the end of the Clinton administration. Galt should have been happy.
This is what each & every one of you right whiners claim to want.
Then came Bush. You f*cking idiots voted for him....twice. You still support the Republican Party that enabled Bush to nearly kill this country creating the worst recession on 80 years, a housing collapse, a near financial; meltdown & two quagmire wars.
What was the Nations 'debt' when Clinton left?

Not the budget...

The House’s rejection of the farm bill by a 195 to 234 vote on Thursday was a stunning defeat for Speaker John Boehner, who supported the legislation and brought it to the House floor for a vote. Mr. Boehner was unable to win support from 62 Republicans on the party’s conservative fringe, who cast no votes because they believed the $20.5 billion cut in the food stamps program did not go deep enough. Nearly all Democrats also voted no because that draconian cut would have eliminated food assistance for nearly two million people.

It appears some Democrats, who might have voted for the House bill, were repelled by a last-minute Republican amendment that added a punitive work requirement to food stamp eligibility rules. That came on top of an offensive amendment Republicans pushed through on Wednesday to authorize states to conduct drug testing of food stamp applicants, despite studies showing they are no more likely than nonbeneficiaries to be using drugs.

A Hew Hampshire state representative resigned Thursday after alleging that the Boston Marathon bombing was a government conspiracy, WMUR reported.

State Rep. Stella Tremblay (R) sent in her letter of resignation to the New Hampshire House of Representatives a day after she sent an e-mail blast to colleagues with links to Boston Marathon bombing conspiracy blogs and videos.

"Have you seen ANY main stream media doing a follow-up on these stories? I have not. I just connect the dots," wrote Tremblay in the e-mail, according to WMUR. "Apparently, it is very dangerous to seek truth, or ask questions."

Tremblay first floated her theory that the marathon bombings were planted by the government to sideline civil liberties in April. Her colleagues in the House responded by voting to fully rebuke her remarks.

“Hodson and Busseri (2012) found in a correlational study that lower intelligence in childhood is predictive of greater racism in adulthood, with this effect being mediated (partially explained) through conservative ideology. They also found poor abstract reasoning skills were related to homophobic attitudes which was mediated through authoritarianism and low levels of intergroup contact.”

In this same study: "we found that lower general intelligence (g) in childhood predicts greater racism in adulthood, and this effect was largely mediated via conservative ideology"

The housing collapse started in 2006. the Great Recession started in 4th quarter of 2007.

I have asked many times - please list the legislation the Democrats passed in 2007 that created this recession.

Rape, Sweden, and coincedence?

"It’s no secret that while rape has been on the upswing in recent years across Europe, the figures are higher in Sweden – which, not coincidentally, has Europe’s second highest percentage of Muslim inhabitants – than in an other country on the continent."

must be 'dumbass republican opens mouth, then has to resign' week.

Editorial: Good riddance to hate-spewing GOP county boss

It took a while, but Republican U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis of Illinois finally got it. When your political friends spew hate, you had better call it for what it is.

On Tuesday night a Davis supporter, Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman Jim Allen, fired off an astonishingly ugly email to a Web news editor about Erika Harold, the former Miss America who plans to run against Davis next year in the GOP primary in the 13th Congressional District.

....On Thursday, as the email got more attention around and outside Illinois, local and national Republican leaders slowly came to realize they had a problem. Allen resigned his local party post on Thursday afternoon, around the same time Illinois Republican Party Chairman Jack Dorgan and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called for him to do so, almost a day and a half after the email surfaced.

Davis amped up his response to reporters Thursday, calling for Allen to step down and describing the comments as "inane and asinine" and "appalling and demeaning."

There's a longer list of adjectives for Allen's remarks, but we'll leave it at that.

If the Illinois GOP doesn't recognize the self-inflicted damage caused by partisans who disparage anyone who doesn't look or act like a traditional Republican, well, party officials won't have to scratch their heads as to why they keep losing elections.

Why on earth would anyone want to be a Republican...

"When people ask me why I moved from liberal to conservative, I have a one-word answer: Detroit. I grew up there, on a middle-class grid street in northwest Detroit and a curving street in affluent suburban Birmingham, and I got a job as an intern in the office of the mayor in the summer of 1967 when Detroit rioted. I was at the side of Mayor Jerome Cavanagh and occasionally Governor George Romney during the six days and nights in which 43 people, mostly innocent bystanders, died. I listened to the radio in the police commissioner's office as commanders announced, shortly after sundown, that they were abandoning one square mile after another. The riot ended only after federal troops were called in and restored order."

Liar.
All the Gramm-Leach-Blily Act did was extend the CRA to the newer mortgage institution that the bill created when it tore down the wall between banks & investment houses.
That tearing down was a major factor in the near financial meltdown, not the expansion of the CRA to these newer mortgage institutions.
"During debate in the House of Representatives, Rep. John Dingell (Democrat of Michigan) argued that the bill would result in banks becoming "too big to fail." Dingell further argued that this would necessarily result in a bailout by the Federal Government.[4]"

This was one of the major flaws in the bill noted by the CRS.

"Crucial to the passing of this Act was an amendment made to the GLB, stating that no merger may go ahead if any of the financial holding institutions, or affiliates thereof, received a "less than satisfactory [sic] rating at its most recent CRA exam", essentially meaning that any merger may only go ahead with the strict approval of the regulatory bodies responsible for the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).[16] This was an issue of hot contention, and the Clinton Administration stressed that it "would veto any legislation that would scale back minority-lending requirements." [17]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramm-Leach-Blil...

AND here is the CRA amendment that Carol mentioned. She wasn't lying. The Bill made the regulatory body of the CRA a partner in deciding if banks could expand. Clinton himself said he would veto the bill if these low income loans were not made.

Go apologize to Carol
