Hmmm, looked up the definition of debunked and see it does have negative connotations.<quoted text>
"Disprove" is a much better word, based on factual information, rather than the insulting nature of "debunk."
But, do as you choose.
However, I have seen it used without the insult involved so the meaning I think is changing. Perhaps an unaware journalist thinks debunked sounds better than discredited.
