If the TeaParty is for smaller government & less spending, why are they looking to make the government spend more money on defending a lawsuit and possibly spending money on a settlement?

I get it.

Cutting spending except when it puts money in their own pockts.

We always knew the Tea Party was a joke.

Ths proves it.

Do you think anyone in this administration or the IRS should be held accountable for betraying the trust of the people?
If so, who? And what should be the consequences?
Fact: The IRS is required to determine whether organizations applying for special tax status are "social welfare" groups or are instead engaged in political activity. Political groups cannot get the special tax status these groups were applying for.
Fact: Only one-third of the groups that were passed to specialists for a closer look were "conservative." Lots of other organizations were also checked, including progressive organizations.
Fact: No groups were audited or harassed or "targeted" or "singled out." This was about applications for special tax status being forwarded to specialists for a closer look to see if they were engaged in political activity that would disqualify them for the special tax status. This closer look is the kind of review all organization should get, but the IRS was swamped because of the flood of groups applying for a status that let them mask their donors, after Citizens United.
Fact: No groups were harmed. There were delays while the groups were checked to see if they should have special tax status. That's it. But the rules are that they are allowed to operate as if they had that status while they waited for official approval.
Fact: The only groups actually denied special tax status were progressive groups, not conservative groups. In 2011, during the period that "conservative groups were targeted" the New York Times carried the story, 3 Groups Denied Break by I.R.S. Are Named . The three groups? Drum roll ... "The I.R.S. denied tax exemption to the groups — Emerge Nevada, Emerge Maine and Emerge Massachusetts — because, the agency wrote in denial letters, they were set up specifically to cultivate Democratic candidates."
Fact: The IRS commissioner in charge at the IRS at the time this happened was appointed President George W. Bush.
Fact: According to the inspector general's report (p. 10) in the "majority of cases, we agreed that the applications submitted included indications of significant political campaign intervention."
So Carol, where was the betrayal of trust and why should there be any consequences?

House panel to make 'judgment' on whether Holder committed perjury
A top House Republican said Friday that his committee plans to pass "judgment" soon on whether Attorney General Eric Holder committed perjury when he testified to knowing nothing about the "potential prosecution" of the press -- as he challenged the department's claim that Holder was telling the truth.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told Fox News that Holder's testimony showed a clear "contradiction" with the facts.

After the department denied wrongdoing in a statement overnight, Goodlatte said the committee will be the judge of that, once it receives Holder's formal response to a letter they sent earlier this week.

IRS, AP and Benghazi Show the Failure of Obama's Big Government

Big Government Makes For More Obama Big Screwups

The leadership failures and bureaucratic dysfunction exposed by the Internal Revenue Service scandal should be a wake up call to anybody who believes bigger government can solve this nation's problems.

How can an "impotent" bureaucracy with "poor management" and the IRS with its "capacity for incompetence and stupidity," as left-leaning commentators David Ignatius and Ruth Marcus both wrote in the Washington Post last week, possibly be trusted to take on the Obama's ambitious agenda?

If the IRS example teaches us anything, it's that giving an inefficient organization more responsibility makes it more likely to screw up, not better able to solve this nation's problems.

Do you people really think anyone in the IRS or in government will pay any settlements?

Obama's woes flow out of big government philosophy

The latest problems with the IRS witch hunt, the seizure of phone records from The Associated Press, the conflicting Benghazi stories and disastrous attempts to enforce Obamacare may all seem unrelated, but they are not.

Each of these events is the direct byproduct of two central philosophies of the Obama administration -- the massive expansion of the size and power of the federal government and a lack of trust in the American people.

These scandals were bound to happen. In fact, it was inevitable, and there will be more. President Obama has grown the size, the scope, the debt and the power of the federal government to such irresponsible proportions that problems like these are an inevitable result.

Now we have not just big government, but big brother running big government.

Yes Carol, and as has been shown numerous times in this thread you fit that last category perfectly.
Here's my list;
Out and out nut cases like Waxman, No Surprize and Florida who tend to repeat their favorite insanities ad nauseam. I tend to ignore them.
Liars like DB.
Overt sociopaths like John Galt.
And finally sociopaths that claim to be Christians, like you.
It's just that I've seen several "man on the street" interviews this past week. You'd be shocked, as was I, how many seemingly intelligent people have no clue about what's going on - many had never heard of the scandals, had never heard of Benghazi, had never heard of Obamacare and one Cal-Tech student couldn't even name the vice-president.

These people simply have no clue. Some, like on here, should have a clue but apparently don't want to have a clue. And some act like they have a clue but are tools promoting propaganda.

So my conclusion was pretty accurate I thought.

The good news is democrats and even some liberals are in the "have a clue" category nowadays. They finally get it. How could they not?

How can you not?

Sure stupid, ask the people in West Texas about over bloated bureaucracy. Both the Chemical Safety Board and the EPA which are tasked to prevent such occurrences are underfunded and understaffed by an industry friendly Congress.
Just how much tax payer money do you think is being wasted by this endless stream of investigations by the likes of Daryl Issa none of which seem to amount to anything? How many "paper pushers" do you think that those involved?
Of course you don't have a problem with the "paper pushers" in the underwriting departments of big health insurance companies whose job it is to find any reason to deny coverage to subscribers who paid their premiums with the assumption that when they needed health care it would be taken care of.
As for the IRS they were doing their jobs to make sure that those groups applying for 501(C)(4) status were eligible for it. The problem I have is that none of them were denied.
Well, you should be outraged then about the massive waste perpetrated by the federal government and this administration if you're this miffed about the overbloated bureaucracy in West Texas.

We have an administration in the throes of three major scandals where top officials knew Americans were being targeted and harrassed because of their political beliefs, where four Americans died and a lie ensued as the cause of their deaths, and reporters and news agencies' privacy was invaded by the top law enforcer of the land without following due process and lied under oath.
Is there anyone on the left who would deny any part or all of the above?
Yes Carol we've covered these so called "scandals" ad nauseam using actual facts in each case to prove that you're a damned liar. But what the hell, let's try it again.
Organizations applying for a 501(C)(4) status are supposed to be apolitical. If the name of the group suggests otherwise then it will get additional scrutiny. The groups with "Tea Party" in their name consisted of 24% of those scrutinized. Groups with "Progress" and "Progressive" also got an extra look and one Emerge America was denied tax exempt status. Progress Texas and Clean Elections Texas, a progressive group face the same questions as Tea Party Groups.
Benghazi was a tragedy and initial assessments from the intelligence community proved to be inaccurate. There were other incidents in the Mid East that were caused by the anti Muslim video so it was understandable that there was some who would attribute it to the attack in Libya. Further assessments . showed this not to be the case. There were no deliberate lies. The accusation that White House emails had been "scrubbed" to eliminate references to Al Qaeda have been debunked long ago.
As for the AP "scandal" the Justice Department had looked at records of AP reporters to see who in the administration had leaked a story. The story was that an informer high up in al Qaeda in Yemen had delivered a new kind of bomb to target airliners, while the government was still analyzing how to detect it and the informer was still in Yemen. The Justice Department looked at call records – phone numbers only – to see if they could spot who had called AP.
But go ahead keep living on planet Stupid.
