Oh my Gawd the old Sandy Berger story again! Sandy Berger took copies not original documents which are still in the National Archives and still available to the 9/11 Commission.<quoted text>
President Bush and Vice President Cheney met with the entire 10-member bipartisan commission at a meeting in the Oval Office. They answered questions from the commissioners for more than three hours.
A statement from the 9/11 commission described the meeting as "extraordinary" and thanked the two men for their cooperation.
"The commission found the president and the vice president forthcoming and candid," the statement said. "The information they provided will be of great assistance to the commission as it completes its final report."
Now my question to you is why did Sandy Berger smuggle top secret documents out of the archives and destroy them before the 9-11 commission could see them?
Lerner should have been fired. She is a government employee paid by the people. She cannot refuse to answer questions on the part of the people who employ her.
As to the testimony before the 9/11 Commission Bush and Cheney insisted that they be interviewed together and that no recording be made. Clinton and Gore were also interviewed but separately and their testimony was recorded.
If there is an active criminal investigation going on then the best thing to say is nothing. Lerner was invoking her rights under the Constitution. Your beloved Rick Scott when deposed as to his role as CEO of Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp as part of a Medicaid fraud investigation invoked his Fifth Amendment rights 75 times.
