Barack Obama, our next President

Full story: Hampton Roads Daily Press

"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep," Obama cautioned. Young and charismatic but with little experience on the national level, Obama smashed through racial barriers and easily defeated ...

Someone said on The Five yesterday that Congress is going on a week's vacation for an extended Memorial Day weekend.

My heart dropped into my stomach when they said "when there's a scandal during these long breaks, they can either build up or disappear."

If this major scandal which has turned America on its ear and threatens to implicate the highest levels of government of impeachable offenses - including democrats - "disappears" simply because Congress goes on a nice little vacation, something is very, very wrong with us.

<quoted text>No, it is not an idiom--it was a Biblical quotation which he misquoted...someone should really work on adding some simple knowledge for simple folks in that GED curriculum.(BTW, another quotation often misquoted is Pope's "IF ignorance is bliss, THEN it's folly to be wise," but although you misquote almost everything rather often, I must doubt that your ignorance is blissful is any way or you wouldn't be on here spewing 24/7.)
Better minds than yours declare it is an idiom. You need to be careful whom you call simple as you are going against experts on this one.

I included a link to a dictionary entry involving that idiom.

"Pride goes before a fall. and Pride goeth before a fall.
Prov. If you are too proud and overconfident, you will make mistakes leading to your defeat.(Biblical.) Sue: I'm the best student in my history class. I'm sure I can pass the exam without studying very hard. Sam: Be careful. Pride goes before a fall, you know."

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/Pride+goe...

NOTE the word IDIOMS in the link.

I thought you would have gotten a clue not to argue about this when you saw you were going up against people more knowledgeable than you on these issues. You cannot name call yourself out this one.

Monsanto also produces seeds that are not genetically modified. Are these countries banning the company or the product?

Genetic seed modification allows the seeds to flourish while using certain pesticides. While you freaks may object to that, it allows developing countries to feed their people instead of starving.

You think you did the Third World a big favor by banning the use of DDT, not giving a shit about the millions of people who have died from malaria as a result.

<quoted text>You're so stupid...it is 'pun' just like 'red hairing' is NOT a simile, it is a statement of fact as in "Your ignorance is much like Eed's." Your ignorance is like a thundering fart in church would be a simile.
Calling someone a dike might be a metaphor if you were trying to show that they were like a barrier to some type of metaphorical sea, but you weren't.(Katherine Harris might be the ultimate red hairing, BTW.) Now just quit embarrassing yourself and wasting my time by insisting on putting your functional illiteracy on display.
It was a joke that whoosh over your head.

I contrasted two unlike things using a simile.

"Red hairing" and pun

In other words, no one believed it was a pun including some of your fellow Progressives.

Why are you so slow at figuring out the use of literal devices?

<quoted text> Well, I can tell you what you don't do!
You don't do business with an international terrorist!
You don't ignore all the warnings of an appending attack!
You don't fly the family of the suspected terrorist out of the country!
You don't invade the borders of a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 9/11!
You don't lie to the nation about Iraq & Al Qaeda in collaboration to pull of 9/11, all so you can invade a country@take over their oil supply! You don't wait almost 2yrs to finally go after the self admitted terrorist after you've already dropped the ball the 1st time & ignored all the warnings from the CIA & FBI, not to mention the previous regimes sect of defense!
You don't go off half cocked to war without strategizing & finding a way to budget the war.!
You don't fight 2 different wars at the same time on unfamiliar terrain!
The question isn't what would you do. What you should worry about is, what we shouldn't have done!
Hmmmmmmmmmm.... I'll just respond to your first statement about doing business with international terrorists:
The Muslim Brotherhood has a permenant presence in the White House today.
... oh, hell, the second statement is just too vulnerable.
Would you say bombing the Wrold Trade Center, bombing two US embassies, and bombing a US warship could be classified as "warning signs"? What warning signs are you referring to?
... and your next statement about getting terrorists out of the country. Didn't Eric Holder just do that in Boston?
... and the next statement.... So, we had no business invading Guadacanal, Tarawa, New Guinea, Phillipines, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany, for that matter?

But, you stumbled right into the question I asked:
It's 9/12. You are the president. What do you do? Do you:
A) Surrender to the Arab terrorists? or;
B) Do the Bill Clinton response and lob a few cruise missiles in their general direction? or;
C) Do the exact same thing in the exact same place against the exact same enemy as the Soveits, and somehow you would expect to experience a different outcome? or;
D) Do it differently with an increased chance of kicking the shit out of those Arab terrorists and deterring future terrorist attacks... which was working until Obama took office.

So, tell us what you would have done as president. If your answer is D, explain to us your course of action and justification.

leosnana's word of the day is 'metaphor'.

She messed up pun, idiom and did not recognize a simple simile so now she zeros in on metaphor.
