a majority of these 40-plus percent voted for Obama (if they voted at all):
A new poll finds that many Americans are confused about the health care overhaul legislation commonly called “Obamacare.”
The Kaiser Family Foundation released results of a non-partisan study today finding more than 40 percent did not even know the law was in place.
“Four in ten Americans (42%) are unaware that the ACA [Affordable Care Act] is still the law of the land,” the report says,“including 12 percent who believe the law has been repealed by Congress, 7 percent who believe it has been overturned by the Supreme Court and 23 percent who say they don’t know enough to say what the status of the law is.”
The survey showed public opinion on Obamacare is at its second-lowest rating in the past two years.
Will Democrats from Obama on down immediately call for an all-out public awareness campaign reminding this 42 percent that the inexpensive and high quality health care that was promised them in 2008 is finally available by law — and millions will soon face a health care penalty “tax”?
There’s a better chance Joe Biden will finish the rest of the year without saying anything stupid. Heading into 2014, the above polling data is good news for the Democrats. Four out of ten people don’t know Obamacare is the law, and therefore aren’t expecting anything yet, which could translate to less angry backlash for the botched implementation:
Anxious Democrats fear a botched implementation of ObamaCare could dash their hopes of controlling the House and Senate for President Obama’s last two years in office.
At his press conference Tuesday, Obama acknowledged “glitches and bumps” in the law’s rollout, but some congressional DEMOCRATS FEAR MUCH WORSE.
One high-ranking Democrat told The Hill that it is his leading concern.
The Dems number one focus will be to DELAY THE INEVITABLE TRAIN WRECK until after 2014 while figuring out a way to blame it on Republicans.
99.9$ of Americans have not yet felt the pain to come from Obamacare

Nazi brainwashing started with Germany's youthsHitler proved it. A government or other organized entity can have a profound influence on what people believe and how they act on those beliefs. Particularly is this true for young people. An award-winning book for teenagers and adults provides proof in the chilling "Hitler Youth: Growing Up In Hitler's Shadow" (Susan Campbell Bartoletti, Scholastic, 2005).
The author relates information regarding the means that the Nazi party used to mold the German youth through popular youth organizations, special activities, propaganda, and appeals to support their fatherland. The defeat and consequences the German people had suffered at the end of World War I left a citizenry anxious to regain pride in their country and a more favorable economic future. Hitler and the Nazi party provided them with hope and a cause to embrace with total commitment.
One of the many means the Nazi party used to influence young people was the organization known as the Hitler Youth, officially formed in 1926 with 6,000 members. In a mere 13 years, this and related organizations, including those for young women, influenced a generation of teens and preteens to an unbelievable degree. By 1939 when Germany invaded Poland, Hitler Youth membership totaled 7.3 million and its ranks had contributed greatly to the formidable German Army.
A wealth of photographs from archives illustrate this well-researched book, which provides facts, but also presents the stories of a number of the teenagers who grew up during this period. Of these, most were drawn into the Hitler Youth, some joining despite their parents disapproval. The organization urged its members to report their parents if they did not support Hitler.
Elisabeth Vetter is one example of a youth who did so and her parents were arrested. Stories of others who resisted joining are also related.
"Adolf Hitler," the author writes was "responsible for the deaths of over 53 million people." And she quotes another author, Karl Paetel, stating that the Nazis, "rode to power on the shoulders of politically active youth."
"Soldier X," a fictionalized account of two actual people, relates the engrossing story of a teenager who was a member of the Hitler Youth (Don Wulffson, Scholastic, 2001,$3.99). In 1944, at age 16, he was sent to the front, where he was soon engaged fighting the Russians, was wounded, and then masqueraded as a Russian soldier in order to survive. In this well-written story, one follows the transition of a young person who has been brainwashed into one belief system, to ultimately rejecting it and building a new personal perspective and value system.
Two fine books based on actual people, detail the effects of one of the Nazi's infamous goals drilled into their young people - persecution of the Jews. During WWII, 270,000 Jews were forced to settle in Poland's Lodz ghetto ("Yellow Star," Jennifer Roy. Marshall Cavendish, 2006). At the end of the war, there were a mere 800 survivors. Of these, only 12 were children. This is the true account of one of those dozen.
Esther Nisenthal Krinitz was a survivor of the Holocaust in Poland and a noted needle worker ("Memories of Survival," Bernice Steinhardt, Hyperion Books, 2005). Krinitz's daughter has published her mother's account of that horrendous time through the older woman's exquisite hand-stitched embroidered panels, which tell the story of her loss of family and her suffering during the Holocaust.
Hitler stated, "My magnificent youngsters! Are there finer ones anywhere in the world? What material! With them I can make a new world." In view of contemporary events, are there lessons here to be learned?

Brainwashing and thought control in the news but far from new Brainwashing and thought control have been in the news a great deal lately. They have been used in the context of the suicide bombers who willingly kill themselves and others for the "good of the cause."

They have also been used in the context of some extreme religious groups by the way they indoctrinate followers to accept a certain set of beliefs that may seem bizarre to the average onlooker.

I became interested in the idea of "brainwashing," and found an excellent book by William Sargant entitled "Battle for the Mind." In this book, Sargant explains clearly that we all are capable of falling victim to alterations in our thinking through specific techniques.

Ivan Pavlov, the famous Russian scientist, is the man credited with helping us understand more about our abilities to implant thoughts and behaviors in others. He did it with remarkable experiments on dogs. He is most famous for training a dog to salivate at the sound of a bell, without seeing or smelling any food. He won the Nobel Peace Prize for this work. His later work is lesser known, but perhaps much more important. He was able to show scientifically that behaviors in animals could be established or erased by creating the appropriate amount of stress for the animal. For example, with the right amount of stress, he could make a dog react aggressively to a caretaker with whom the dog was once extremely loyal. He applied stress to his animals through emotional means and through medical means. Regardless of the method, each animal had a certain level of tolerance to stress. Once that level was surpassed, the animal began to break down, and changes in the animal's behavior could be observed.

Sargant noted that the same observations that Pavlov made in dogs are also applicable to humans. During World War II, soldiers who were subjected to weeks of intense battle were observed as having similar behaviors as the animals in Pavlov's lab. The soldiers were able to tolerate a certain amount of stress, and then once that level was passed, the soldiers began to behave in manners consistent with Pavlov's experiments.

Sargant goes on to explain that emotional reactivity is crucial in thought control and behavior change. When a person becomes emotionally involved, this person enters a state of mind that is wide open for suggestibility. Sargant, a religious man himself, illustrates this with the example of charismatic ministers of all faiths who are skillful at hooking their audience with emotionally-charged messages. Sargant says ministers are more likely "to achieve success if they can first induce some degree of nervous tension or stir up sufficient feelings of anger or anxiety to secure the person's undivided attention and possibly increase his suggestibility."

Sargant is clear that brainwashing and thought control occur in many arenas. Sure it can occur in the religious world, but it also can occur in the political world. For example, a political prisoner is not allowed to sleep or eat much for a lengthy period of time. During this time, he is being intensely confronted with the "evils of democracy." Finally, as the stress grows to an intolerant level, the prisoner becomes willing to denounce democracy, and accept his captors point of view. A dramatic, but genuine thought shift occurs.

After reading Sargant's book, I understand better how a person could be convinced to become a suicide bomber. We presently live in a world full of fear, which was compounded tremendously after 9-11.

As a society, we fear a variety of things. Terrorist and weapons of mass destruction are two obvious examples. Our fear may make us vulnerable to the powers of suggestion by authorities as to how to best ease our anxiety. The difficulty is in discerning what we should be genuinely fearful of, and what fears are being used to push us toward alternative ways of thinking.

Ah, the million dollar question!

All in all, news of the I.R.S. audits and phone-records scandals have given the mercurial dictator hope that North Korea and the United States might have warmer relations in the future:“We have a lot more in common than I thought.”

The big questions buzzing over Boston Bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have a single answer: It emerged in the 102 tense hours between the twin Boston Marathon bombings Monday, April 15 – which left three dead, 180 injured and a police officer killed at MIT - and Dzohkhar’s capture Friday, April 19 in Watertown.

The conclusion reached by debkafile’s counterterrorism and intelligence sources is that the brothers were double agents, hired by US and Saudi intelligence to penetrate the Wahhabi jihadist networks which, helped by Saudi financial institutions, had spread across the restive Russian Caucasian.

Instead, the two former Chechens betrayed their mission and went secretly over to the radical Islamist networks.

By this tortuous path, the brothers earned the dubious distinction of being the first terrorist operatives to import al Qaeda terror to the United States through a winding route outside the Middle East – the Caucasus.

This broad region encompasses the autonomous or semi-autonomous Muslim republics of Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, North Ossetia and Karachyevo-Cherkesiya, most of which the West has never heard of.

Moscow however keeps these republics on a tight military and intelligence leash, constantly putting down violent resistance by the Wahhabist cells, which draw support from certain Saudi sources and funds from the Riyadh government for building Wahhabist mosques and schools to disseminate the state religion of Saudi Arabia.
The Saudis feared that their convoluted involvement in the Caucasus would come embarrassingly to light when a Saudi student was questioned about his involvement in the bombng attacks while in a Boston hospital with badly burned hands.

They were concerned to enough to send Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saudi al-Faisal to Washington Wednesday, April 17, in the middle of the Boston Marathon bombing crisis, for a private conversation with President Barack Obama and his national security adviser Tom Donilon on how to handle the Saudi angle of the bombing attack.
That day too, official Saudi domestic media launched an extraordinary three-day campaign. National and religious figures stood up and maintained that authentic Saudi Wahhabism does not espouse any form of terrorism or suicide jihadism and the national Saudi religion had nothing to do with the violence in Boston.“No matter what the nationality and religious of the perpetrators, they are terrorists and deviants who represent no one but themselves.”

Prince Saud was on a mission to clear the 30,000 Saudi students in America of suspicion of engaging in terrorism for their country or religion, a taint which still lingers twelve years after 9/11. He was concerned that exposure of the Tsarnaev brothers’ connections with Wahhabist groups in the Caucasus would revive the stigma.

The Tsarnaevs' recruitment by US intelligence as penetration agents against terrorist networks in southern Russia explains some otherwise baffling features of the event:

. An elite American college in Cambridge admitted younger brother Dzhokhar and granted him a $2,500 scholarship, without subjecting him to the exceptionally stiff standard conditions of admission. This may be explained by his older brother Tamerlan demanding this privilege for his kid brother in part payment for recruitment.
2. When in 2011, a “foreign government”(Russian intelligence) asked the FBI to screen Tamerlan for suspected ties to Caucasian Wahhabist cells during a period in which they had begun pledging allegiance to al Qaeda, the agency, it was officially revealed, found nothing incriminating against him and let him go after a short interview.
He was not placed under surveillance. Neither was there any attempt to hide the fact that he paid a long visit to Russia last year and on his return began promoting radical Islam on social media.
Yet even after the Boston marathon bombings, when law enforcement agencies, heavily reinforced by federal and state personnel, desperately hunted the perpetrators, Tamerlan Tsarnaev was never mentioned as a possible suspect
3. Friday, four days after the twin explosions at the marathon finishing line, the FBI released footage of Suspect No. 1 in a black hat and Suspect No. 2 in a white hat walking briskly away from the crime scene, and appealed to the public to help the authorities identify the pair.
We now know this was a charade. The authorities knew exactly who they were. Suddenly, during the police pursuit of their getaway car from the MIT campus on Friday, they were fully identified. The brother who was killed in the chase was named Tamerlan, aged 26, and the one who escaped, only to be hunted down Saturday night hiding in a boat, was 19-year old Dzhokhar.
Our intelligence sources say that we may never know more than we do today about the Boston terrorist outrage which shook America – and most strikingly, Washington - this week. We may not have the full story of when and how the Chechen brothers were recruited by US intelligence as penetration agents – any more than we have got to the bottom of tales of other American double agents who turned coat and bit their recruiters.
Here is just a short list of some of the Chechen brothers’ two-faced predecessors:
In the 1980s, an Egyptian called Ali Abdul Saoud Mohamed offered his services as a spy to the CIA residence in Cairo. He was hired, even though he was at the time the official interpreter of Ayman al-Zuwahiri, then Osama bin Laden’s senior lieutenant and currently his successor.
He accounted for this by posing as a defector. But then, he turned out to be feeding al Qaeda US military secrets. Later, he was charged with Al Qaeda’s 1998 bombings of US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es-Salaam.
On Dec. 30, 2009, the Jordanian physician Humam Khalil al-Balawi, having gained the trust of US intelligence in Afghanistan as an agent capable of penetrating al Qaeda’s top ranks, detonated a bomb at a prearranged rendezvous in Kost, killing the four top CIA agents in the country.
Then, there was the French Muslim Mohamed Merah. He was recruited by French intelligence to penetrate Islamist terror cells in at least eight countries, including the Caucasus. At the end of last year, he revealed his true spots in deadly attacks on a Jewish school in Toulouse and a group of French military commandoes.
The debate has begun over the interrogation of the captured Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarmayev when he is fit for questioning after surgery for two bullet wounds and loss of blood. The first was inflicted during the police chase in which his brother Tamerlan was killed.
An ordinary suspect would be read his rights (Miranda) and be permitted a lawyer. In his case, the “public safety exemption” option may be invoked, permitting him to be questioned without those rights, provided the interrogation is restricted to immediate public safety concerns..

Attorney General Eric Holder went on the defensive on Tuesday explaining why the Justice Department secretly obtained two months worth of reporters' telephone records in an 'unprecedented' search for a confidential source.

'This was a very serious leak and a very, very serious leak,' Holder said at a press conference explaining the department's actions which have been criticized for going against the constitutional right to a free press.

Holder said that he recused himself from the making the controversial decision to subpoena the phone records of Associated Press journalists, saying that it was made by Deputy Attorney General James Cole.
