Regardless of the source, the Soviet war in Afghanistan seriously drained the resources of the Soviet Union and was a contributing factor to its downfall.<quoted text>Why stop at 2009? Why not 'investigate the random violence in the Middle East' ever since Reagan gave military foreign aid to radical jihadists in Afghanistan in hopes that they would attack the Soviet Union or just as far back as G.H.W. Bush declaring war on Iraq and taking sides with Kuwait for their right to steal oil from Iraq? Or, research the random violence in the United States since Reagan's new militarism abroad and massive military build-up at home that increased the number of para-military right-wing white supremacist and separatist groups?
