HOUSTON (The Borowitz Report)—National Rifle Association C.E.O. Wayne LaPierre used his opening speech at the N.R.A.’s national convention today to highlight several challenges facing the organization, including what he called “the rising cost of Senators.”

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen the price of purchasing a Senator surge astronomically,” he told the N.R.A. faithful.“Unless something is done to make Senators more affordable, the ability of a tiny lobbying group to overrule the wishes of ninety per cent of the American people will be in jeopardy.”

The days are over, he said, when “you could buy a Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) for little more than pocket change.”

“Now it costs thousands to purchase a marginally effective Senator like Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.),” he said.

Mr. LaPierre was followed at the podium by the former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, the rock musician Ted Nugent, and several other people who would not pass background checks.

HEY STUPID! Wal-Mart destroys more jobs when they come into a community than they provide. The jobs they provide are so low paying that their employees have to apply for supplemental assistance and food stamps.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages force employees to need approximately $420,000 per year, per store, totaling $2.66 BILLION annually in food stamps and other taxpayer assistance…to survive.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages cost the country HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars in payroll tax deductions for Federal, State, and Local taxes.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages cost our communities the ability to hire and retain important public service workers like firefighters, police officers, maintenance workers, and teachers.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages cost our communities with their increased need for those same public services they are underfunding.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages and lack of covered benefits cost taxpayers over $1.02 BILLION a year in healthcare costs.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages cost taxpayers as much as $225 MILLION in free and reduced price lunches for school-age children.
• Wal-Mart's intentionally low wages cost taxpayers over $780 MILLION in tax deductions for low-income families.
You're an idiot Jimmy!

Gee Whiz, Thanks for the laughs, just because you couldn't pass a background check, doesn't mean everyone has your record? I am very sure Ted Nugent has passed numerous checks in his home state of Michigan. Keep blowing it out your a**, you're the comedy on these threads.

I'm in agreement on this; what about smoking a joint?
They're on their way to pass the no text and drive,$30.00 ticket, what say you?
I say, stop giving the police more excuses to harrass the public.
The possession of a joint or a small amount of marijuana is not an arrestable offense in my opinion.

But if not buckling up is dangerous, texting is even more dangerous.

It seems contradictory to me that you don't want the police to harrass the public - and I agree - but you don't mind the federal government getting right in our faces and being "all up in that". So to speak.

An unprecedented 32 black republicans ran for office in the 2010 elections. So it's probably safe to say their numbers are growing without a website.

You're looking for mysteries where there are none Carol. Barack Obama was one of many college grads who spent time looking for work after graduating. His stint at the Developing Communities Project, run under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago was an important stepping stone for him. Schools like Harvard Law often look beyond grades and often weigh actual experience into the mix.
Obama worked with actual people and tried to make their communities stronger and encouraged the younger residents to better themselves. There's nothing wrong with that.
There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself. But a leader of the nation has to have experience leading, governing or serving enough time in Congress to know how to get things done with tact in reaching across the aisle.

Obama was in over his head from the get go. He led with the same academic disconnect in the same ivory tower he felt most comfortable most of his adult life.

He simply cannot relate to hardworking Americans who only want to make an honest living to get by or get ahead but, rather, connects with people who look to the government for their sustenance and has self-appointed himself as their leader, their voice and their savior while the rest of us have to pay the price and hope for the best.

There is no such thing as "fairness across the board" in any society. Europe and other failed socialist democracies should have made that obvious.

He is insulated and surrounds himself by fellow radicals and elitists who are also disconnected from most Americans who are not either.

In short, Obama is not a leader. He had an agenda and force fed it to the rest of us. He has demonized and ignored those who represent the other half of the population.

You can't possibly say and be honest that is a sign of leadership.

When any candidate running for office wins three times in a row unopposed because of suspiciously nefarious tactics or "scandals" that force their opponents to drop out, your assumption is just the opposite.

Obama and his handlers threw the book at them - apparently Hillary too.

You always cease to amaze. I'll bet you're one of those famous "Wal-Mart Shoppers" we see pictures of all the time. You're the 250 pounder pushing a cart full of Doritos and Keystone Light, with pink hair, black expandex tights, and wearing a way too small T-shirt that says "Bargoyle" across the front.

You get accepted based on your academics.
Scholarships are based on both need and academics. My daughter received scholarships awarded prior to any applications for financial aid. These were based on her HS record.
Minorities get accepted for breathing.

Some crummy schools will offer financial aid based on academics to attract a few students who can actually read, but Ivy league financial aid is based solely on need.

Sorry your daughter went to a third-rate school.

Sure moron and the Bible is such a peace loving book. In Book 1 of Samuel God orders Saul to attack the Amalekites "And utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them," God says through the prophet Samuel. "But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey."
Let's not forget Joshua's annihilation of Jericho and the slaughter of all its inhabitants.

Winner in last election?

According to the National Black Republican Association:

Karl Marx - Founding Father of Oppression:
•Right dictated by the state
•Forced wealth re-distribution
•Government-run economy
•Mediocrity rewarded
•Collective ownership
•Free speech silenced
•Gun ownership banned
•Government dependency
•Authoritarian rule
•People fear their government
•Tyranny

Loser in last election?

George Washington - Founding Father of Freedom:
•Right granted by God
•Sharing based on love
•Free-market capitalism
•Excellence rewarded
•Private property rights
•1st Amendment rights
•2nd Amendment rights
•Individual responsibility
•We, the people
•Government fears the people
•Liberty
