Pope Compares Bangladesh Factory Workers To 'Slave Labor'
Pope Francis has equated the wages paid to Bangladeshi workers who died in last week's building collapse to "slave labor."
More than 400 people were killed in the April 24 collapse of the Rana Plaza building outside Dhaka; the building housed several garment factories that made products for Western brands.
News reports say that workers at the factories housed in the building were paid about 38 euros a month (about $50).
"This was the payment of these people who have died," the pope said, according to Vatican Radio. "And this is called 'slave labor!' "
Francis' comments came at a Mass Wednesday to mark the feast of St. Joseph the Worker.
"Not paying a just [wage], not providing work, focusing exclusively on the balance books, on financial statements, only looking at making personal profit. That goes against God!" the pope added, according to Vatican Radio

Why don't you and Oblamer give a couple of million of them some great paying jobs? You can throw in another kind of "job", if you know what I mean.

Aunt Bettie Lou," Republicans had fully intended for there to be a massive redistribution of land from former slave owners to former slaves under Reconstruction, but Andrew Johnson's policy effectively thwarted that." "Not sure what your point is, but you can't rewrite history. " Here's the point again in case you are as reading-challenged as you are in spelling. President Johnson's revocation of the special field orders were based on the fact that it was an overstepping of the limits of Presidential powers--(The Republicans, who already controlled Congress, had severely limited the President's powers. If the Republicans had that kind of control over the federal legislature then they could have pushed through a 'massive redistribution of land to freed slaves ' bill anytime they wanted to--why didn't they?(Answer the question or here's an answer --that would had been too much 'socialism'.It was enough to pass a federal pension plan for the widows and orphans of Civil War veterans (North and South)--the precursor of our present-day social security and welfare state system. "kudos for confirming the part about Everett Dirksen's (R) role in getting the CRA of 1964 passed." (Now you should be courteous enough in turn to give 'kudos' to a Democrat President Lyndon B. Johnson who magnanimously let Everett Dickson take the credit for passing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Open Housing Act of 1968(even when history clearly shows it was a Democrat President Lyndon B. Johnson that got the job done) Check this out: http://www.historyplace.com/speeches/johnson.... "There is no issue of state's rights or national rights. There is only the struggle for human rights. I have not the slightest doubt what will be your answer. But the last time a President sent a civil rights bill to the Congress it contained a provision to protect voting rights in Federal elections. That civil rights bill was passed after eight long months of debate. And when that bill came to my desk from the Congress for signature, the heart of the voting provision had been eliminated.

This time, on this issue, there must be no delay, or no hesitation, or no compromise with our purpose. We cannot, we must not, refuse to protect the right of every American to vote in every election that he may desire to participate in.

And we ought not, and we cannot, and we must not wait another eight months before we get a bill. We have already waited 100 years and more and the time for waiting is gone. So I ask you to join me in working long hours and nights and weekends, if necessary, to pass this bill. And I don't make that request lightly, for, from the window where I sit, with the problems of our country, I recognize that from outside this chamber is the outraged conscience of a nation, the grave concern of many nations and the harsh judgment of history on our acts.

But even if we pass this bill the battle will not be over. What happened in Selma is part of a far larger movement which reaches into every section and state of America. It is the effort of American Negroes to secure for themselves the full blessings of American life. Their cause must be our cause too. Because it's not just Negroes, but really it's all of us, who must overcome the crippling legacy of bigotry and injustice.

And we shall overcome. " Yes, indeed dear Aunt Bettie Lou, you can not 'rewrite history' It's there for all to see. Lyndon B Johnson used the sweet words of liberty from the lips of the great Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. "We Shall Overcome"!

Leadville Lou, "you don't have any concerns about who will pay the bill. " and also George W Bush and Ronald Reagan had no concerns about who would pay for trillion dollar national deficits when Bush was running up the debt with two unpaid for overseas wars ,an unpaid for prescription drug plan entitlement program for seniors and even large tax cut entitlements to the wealthiest Americans. Have to wonder if Bush W. and Reagan were not really 'geldings' or neutered eunuch's of the U S Imperial State. "I am not worried about the deficit."-President Ronald Reagan.

Just imagine how differently history would have been written if a Republican had been Lincoln's vice-president instead of a Democrat.

I'm just trying to get those on the left to do some serious soul searching before they're tempted to keep calling Republicans racists.

It wasn't the Republicans' fault southern Democrats thought the mention of states' rights justified infiltrating their party in the south only because one Republican, Goldwater, strongly believed in states' rights. Yet, Goldwater was depicted by his opponents in the Republican primaries as "a representative of a conservative philosophy that was extreme and alien".

The racist southern democrats ran back to their own party when their attempt backfired.

Seems many on the left forget that little fact.

It was another Democrat, FDR, and his New Deal that swayed blacks to go back on a different kind of plantation - a government-dependent plantation.
Nearly all blacks were registered Democrats for three decades before the Civil Rights Movement.
