Chris Matthews Partisan Proclamation: Domestic Terrorists...Tend to Be on the Far Right

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews wasted no time in questioning whether today’s horrific bombing of the Boston Marathon was a politically-motivated attack.

Looks like perhaps somebody dropped the ball again in the chain of command on Capital Hill?

This is not only a valid but a disturbing question, especially after the Benghazi fiasco.

Can you believe that when BushCo invaded Iraq that there were only around sixty Arab speakers with US forces and many were highly paid civilians who had families in Iraq?
Anyway__you were asking about where the Tsarnaev's money was coming from and presently none of the talking heads seem to know or even give a shyt.
The older brother was married to an American girl and they have a toddler__her parents live in Rhode Island in a knockout pad that's easily worth a million maybe more because there's land.
The uncle also had a nice home__not sure what he does for a living.
The mom was arrested not long ago for shoplifting at Lord and
Taylor???
We'll learn about the $ in time__it might be interesting.
Why would the father seek asylum in the US and then go back???
I wondered the same thing. Apparently the older brothers wife had a job to support the family and he stayed home with the toddler; a reporter on CNN said that yesterday. They said that the younger one received a scholarship of $2500 at UMass, but, you and I know that doesn't go far with tuition costs, books, food, lodging etc unless he had student loans.
Also wondered about the US giving asylum to Russians?
Money for travelling to Russia for 6 months? Even if you stay at your fathers...
Very odd, I hope they question that father when he comes here to bury his murdering son. The wife too. It's impossible that no one knows anything, hard to believe.
The Boston Globe had photos of their apartment which was a dump.

Bush and the Bankruptcy of Republican Foreign Policy Thinking

If you want to know how Republican foreign policy thinking reached its present sorry state, just review the record of pro-war and pro-Bush conformism on the right from 2002 on. Instead of rigorous and critical thinking on policy, conservatives became accustomed to inventing defenses for administration positions and serving as enforcers against critics from the center and left and against dissenters in their own ranks. Having becoming used to shaping their foreign policy views around what their president did and said, many on the right were left adrift when Bush left office. Bush was extremely unpopular, so conservatives didnt want to identify openly with him for political reasons, but on policy many of them were so used to endorsing whatever he had done that they couldnt design a distinctive and relevant agenda of their own. Most Republicans defaulted to opposing almost anything Obama did, partly because they believed that this is how the other party had treated Bush and partly for lack of any other ideas. To some extent, Republicans and conservatives did that to themselves, but Bush was the one they were following and he is partly responsible for the results.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Wont Be Tried As an Enemy Combatant

The indictment is still sealed, BBC reports, but the White House has announced that the 19 year-old surviving suspect of the Boston Marathon bombings has been charged, and wont be tried as an enemy combatant.

The news probably comes as a disappointment to Republican hawks such as Sens. Ayotte, Graham, and McCain, who were calling for him to be designated as such.

Though much is still unknown, the decision to try the younger Tsarnaev in an ordinary criminal court seems like the right one. Though details are emerging about the brothers radicalization, they dont seem to have any connection to other terrorists abroad, though some have tried to spin the elders trip to Chechnya and Dagestan as evidence of a link. The senators could have said they support the enemy combatant designation in the event a link to Al Qaeda was found, but as Michael Tomasky points out, thats not what they did.

The Conservative Paranoid Mind

Theres a common thread linking conservatives positions on gun control, immigration, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev: the constant need to stoke fear.

Liberals and civil libertarians shouldnt yet be saying that theres utterly no way that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be declared an enemy combatant. The post-9/11 law, whatever ones opinion of it, does say that an American citizen affiliated with al Qaeda, the Taliban,or associated forces engaged in hostility with the United States can be declared an enemy combatant. It doesnt seem like hes that, but who knows, he may shock everyone when he comes to by saying that he and his brother were precisely that.

But it isnt liberals who are jumping the gun here. As usual, conservatives are rushing to judgment, shredding the Constitution, using the bombing as an pretext for derailing immigration reform, and generally seeking any excuse to reimpose their paranoid and authoritarian worldview, which needs fear like a vampire needs blood, on the rest of us.

....The common thread through all of this is the conservative need to instill and maintain a level of fear in the populace. They need to make gun owners fear that Dianne Feinstein and her SWAT team are going to come knocking on their doors, or, less amusingly, that they have to be armed to the teeth for that inevitable day when the government declares a police state. They need to whip up fear of immigrants, because unless we do, its going to be nothing but terrorists coming through those portals, and for good measure, because, as Ann Coulter and others have recently said, the proposed law would create millions of voting Democrats (gee, I wonder why!).

And with regard to terrorism, they need people to live in fear of the next attack, because fear makes people think about death, and thinking about death makes people more likely to endorse tough-guy, law-and-order, Constitution-shredding actions undertaken on their behalf. This is how we lived under Bush and Cheney for years. This fear is basically what enabled the Iraq War to take place. Public opinion didnt support that war at first. But once they got the public afraid with all that false talk of mushroom clouds, the needle zoomed past 50 percent, and it was bombs away.

Conservatism, I fear (so to speak), can never be cleansed of this need to instill fear. Whether its of black people or of street thugs or of immigrants or of terrorists or of jackbooted government agents, its how the conservative mind works. I dont even think its always cynical and manipulative; conservatives often do see enemies under every bed. But that doesnt mean theyre there, and it most definitely doesnt mean the rest of us ought to make law and policy based on their nightmares.

Islam is a poison religion that kills and destroy the soul and concience of its followers.
Every single Muslim neighbor of yours is a potential terrorist. He can be "weaponized" by a Muslim imam at a musk in one sermon.
You conservatives claim America is a Christian country. Well America has a couple hundred thousand Iraqi deaths on their hands, millions of Japanese & Vietnamese deaths on their hands, & the list goes on. What's that say about Christians? Oh, but it's a double standard because it's America, right!

So, they received political asylum; and then returned? Makes no sense. The whole point of asylum is that you must convince the US that you are in danger in your own country.

Yeah, that Lindsey Graham was whining about that on the Sunday talk shows. He's an American and a crime committed here, it goes throught the justice system. Like it or not, he has rights.

New private rocket launches into orbit on maiden flight

A new commercial U.S. rocket soared into the Virginia sky Sunday (April 21) on a debut flight that paves the way for eventual cargo flights to the International Space Station for NASA.
The private Antares rocket, built by Orbital Sciences, is a two-stage booster designed to launch tons of supplies to the International Space Station aboard a new unmanned cargo ship called Cygnus.

Not quite lily, when the USSR went out of business Russia survived but some other states/regions fell apart at the seams.

Our immigration policies suck__everyone knows that. Those with attorney's get in whether or not they're of good character or, cough, necessary (tech-med) workers. At the same time the brokeazz agri workers have to sneak back and forth to work for p-nuts.

Beck, Limbaugh, Dobbs and others have made so much noise and created so much hatred for Mexicans, Guatemalans and Hondurans during the past dozen years that most US citizens have forgotten that immigrants from elsewhere, particularly the Islamic world present a far greater danger in terms of job losses, civil disobedience and civil unrest.
