It's all too ironic that for years conservatives who espoused couples getting married to have their children were called all kinds of nasty names and now those same critics are shreiking for gays[no biological kids possible] to be allowed to marry.
likely the irony escaped you.
Try not to stereotype the entire Democrat Party as a collection of radicals.

As for the press, it blows in both directions. Note how Bush and Cheney were given a free pass in the preceding months they hawked their BS War in Iraq to the public. Note how the administation used their assets in the press like Novak and Miller to take out Valerie Plame.

The press also praised the dictatorship of South Vietnam as a "democracy" during much of the Vietnam era. Hardly a liberal point of view.

Yeah, it figures you'd bow to a pagan god of war. Pagan gods are the favorites of uncouth savages. That's what your boy, Adolf, tried to replace Christianity with.

Think what you like about the Swedes, but that isn't the point.

The point is, Gustav II Adolf was a far more glorious ruler and far braver in combat than your idol, Adolf.

DEATH is not far. It is upstairs from me as I write this and it is horrible indeed. I just visited with it. To see the ones you love brought low by no more than time. Often the watchers remark, "Gee, you're up late." And I am... DEATH is. DEATH is not quick nor is he clean. He is a horrid ogre with accompanying sounds from another world. My last kiss is sweet in a way, but it's very final. Carol, I am engaged in death as we speak. I'm an expert in it. Tonight I'll take one soul, perhaps, hundreds, thousands. But to the people concerned it is the only death that matters. Memento Mori, my dear. I deal DEATH like a house of cards, which is to say, as if he were Mexican.

How amusing for DEATH to be chronicling death. A dozen feet away an old woman with many sins lays dying, gasping for air like a fish, gutted, eaten even, but without the perspective to realize she's dead. Judge not... there are pieces of wisdom in bibles, and there are droves of them, but nothing prepares you for DEATH does it, carol? There's no prayer, no blessing, no sermon that prepares you for the flying vomit and shit and suffering which accompanies leaving the world. Love you guys. God bless.

Yes, Perot's campaign hurt GHW Bush. So what? We had a similar problem with Ralph Nader in 2000.
I recall at the end of GHW Bush's term in 1993, we had a moderate recession in full swing. That marked the end of Reagan's economic "triumph". It was based on an unsustainable Cold War military build-up.
As for Clinton, he also left office with a moderate recession, but with a balanced budget and the least government spending in the years from 1981 to 2009.
The massive spending which has led us to the current crisis began with Reagan, was perpetuated by GHW, slowed down by Clinton, then ruinously revived by W.
Case closed.
Clinton had a Republican-controlled Congress for 6 of his 8 year term.

That was the difference in his eventually moving to the center and signing legislation like the Welfare Reform Act.

Remember Clinton's State of the Union Address when he told the American public the era of big government was over?

He was more Republican than Democrat when compared to the radical liberal sitting in the White House now which, by the way, defies all logic in this parallel universe we now seem to be living.

Cal Tech, we are getting a front row seat to a chapter in history that could change everything we think we know in a heartbeat. Domestic and global turmoil is brewing and things are starting to heat up. It's not about whether I expect the worst to happen or not. It's about the economic and geopolitical climate in which we live and the uncertainty of not knowing which shoe will drop first.

The majority of Americans, 61%, believe we are going in the wrong direction. That many of us can't be wrong.

The unrest on the global front is concerning but it's like a pot boiling on the back burner. Right here at home, we are facing the very real possibility of reaching a point of no return if the dollar continues to lose its value or we can't stop the bleeding of job losses and out of control spending.

When some liberals pretend like none of this happening or scoffs at anyone who points out what should be the obvious, I feel compelled to remind them of the lessons of history and why we would be wise to learn from them.

The hunger for power can happen anywhere. History, if anything, teaches us that attempts to silence the opposition by using demoralizing and demonizing tactics and hate speech for the sole purpose of total control coupled with complacency by the majority will not have a good outcome.

We are at that same crossroads. So, yes, the worst can happen even here unless more Americans begin to wise up.

Viet Nam had nothing to do with the northern communists trying to enslave the south? Because that's what happened when we left.
Why is it virtually no one ever wants to emigrate to the people's paradise's like Cuba, China, Viet Nam, N. Korea, etc.?
First, your remark is somewhat irrelevant.

My post was a rebuttal to the claim that Wilson and FDR "got us into world wars", which is true, but you express this in a contemptuous manner inferring that there wasn't a good reason for them doing so.

Then there was EasyEed's statement that Kennedy and LBJ got us involved in Vietnam. This ignores the previous commitments of the Eisenhower administration along with extremely aggressive covert activities of the CIA which were intent on provoking a war.

Did you know that Vietnam was a single, undivided country until 1954? The splitting of the country into northern and southern halves was an agreement reached by the French and Vietminh parties at the Paris Peace Accords of the same year.

The purpose of the division was to allow French and Vietminh forces the opportunity to disengage and pull back to their respective territory. The French agreed to pull out.

There was also a provision within the accords which called for a reunification plebiscite in 1956 in the South, so that it could decide whether or not it wished to reunite with the North.

To make a long story short, the CIA put President Ngo Diem in power through rigged elections in 1954. Then with our blessing, he cancelled the 1956 Plebiscite. But Diem went further. "The Pentagon Papers" points out how Diem's secret police rounded up communists engaged in peaceful political activity and imprisoned them.

But the CIA went further. Before the ink was dry on the 1954 Paris Accords, the CIA set up shop in Vietnam and began running sabotage operations in the North.

The North did not react right away to these provocations. But in 1959, their leadership finally gave the green light to fight back against the Diem regime.

China and North Korea are vile dictatorships. Vietnam is far more benign, although the communists retain a monopoly on political power. Socialists nations like Venezuela and Nicaragua have democratic elections and are not totalitarian.

What's the worst that can happen, carol? Korea? The budget? Democrats? Wanna know what's the worst that can happen, carol? It's when someone you love dies in your arms. Gun control? No problem. Muslim radicalism? Kill 'em. Enjoy your life, carol. In the end you will see no one but me, and be aware, when you do, I'll remember your cavalier way with other people's lives. Yes, I'll agree the GOP Congress deserves credit for balancing the budget and keeping spending in check during Clinton's time in office.

But that raises the question... why were they so tight with Clinton while giving Reagan and both Bushes everything they wanted?

The answer is simple. Spending is what makes politicians popular. So GOP motives were based more on whittling down Clinton's chances for re-election and his legacy than anything else. Try to remember they went after him throughout the six years they held the majority, even impeaching him for lying about an extra-marital affair.

The same GOP which let GW Bush off the hook for launching a war of aggression based on lies.

Returning to the spending issue, the enormous deficits we have today started with Reagan, slowed greatly under Clinton, then went wild again under GW Bush.

The strength of a nation is greatly based on its wealth. Well, you Republicans are mostly to blame for the state we're in. You're only frugal when it hurts the political opposition.

To suggest the rot began under Clinton who added only 1.6 trillion to the natonal debt, compared to the 5.7 tallied by GW Bush is sheer nonsense, and you know better.

I fundamentally do not believe in gun control because such laws give the police unlimited opportunity to plant weapons and falsely convict. I also believe the 2nd Amendment does not allow government to disarm the people, although with some limits with regard to military ordenance.

I think the liberals are mostly interested in greater regulation of handguns, not firearms in general.

Comparing Obama and Chavez to Hitler is ridiculous. Bush, with his big lies, torture prisons, "pre-emptive war" and the Patriot Act is a much closer analogy.

Reagan raised taxes to appease the Democrats who promised cuts in spending in return.

True to form, they backed down on their part of the bargain.

You can't forget 111 Democrats voted for the Iraq War. In fact, it was they who were lying to the American public when they said they were denied access to the same Intel. They, of course, were privy to the same Intel.

The economy was actually doing well under Bush's economic policies after 9/11 and before the housing bubble burst.

He can't be blamed for that when more Democrats resisted oversight of Fannie and Freddie for five years leading up to the crisis in spite of multiple warnings by both Bush and Bernancke.

It's where we are now that counts though. It's frankly not logical to blame Bush for increasing the deficit by a fraction of the present deficit increased by Obama and Congressional democrats.

But it's getting late, so goodnight.
