It was the 'The Shining City Upon A Hill' until liberalism took over. The erosion of social mores brought on by burgeoning governmental largess and the pacification of a largely foreign dependent class, overloaded the treasury, which in turn led to the usurpation of wealth and inevitable collapse. Excessive government killed Rome.
I wouldn't call Reagan a liberal, his big government policies are what we are still dealing with today. Reagan killed that shining city on the hill.

Spin, spin, Fox spin.
If the Republicans were genuine participants in this government, then Obama could work with them. They had no interest from day one.
The sequester was stupid.
Obama's "underlying motives" are to fix the country. Four year olds in the House obstructing everything without reason, opposing THEIR OWN ideas, are THE problem.
Do you do any research at all?

This president has alienated republicans from day one. He has no interest in working WITH them, just wants them to do everything HE wants and then blames them if they don't.

Where have you been? You and Homer were obviously in the same place.

Mandatory car insurance requirements are routinely ignored, particularly in major cities.

Homeowners insurance is not required by law.

However, most homeowners insurance policies do cover personal liability.

Your liability if someone steals your firearm and uses it, legally or illegally, is exactly zero.

<quoted text>of course not, nothing is ever Oblamer's fault. the devalued soon to be extinct buck never stops on his desk.
'the White House originally proposed the sequester - House Speaker John Boehner has dubbed it the "Obamaquester." They point to reporting from the Washington Post's Bob Woodward, who has described how then-White House budget director Jack Lew and legislative liaison Rob Nabors hatched the idea of a trigger - a delayed-onset package that would ostensibly force Congress to reach an agreement on the budget - during the height of dramatic negotiations on raising the federal debt ceiling during the summer of 2011.
President Obama, Woodward reported, signed off on the proposal, and the result of the debt ceiling negotiations - the 2011 Budget Control Act - created a congressional "Super Committee" to reach an agreement on deficit reduction and included the spending cuts in the sequester as a fallback if the committee failed.
The committee failed; the sequester looms.
Woodward also accused the president of "moving the goal posts" by demanding that a replacement for the sequester include a balance of spending cuts and new revenue. "His call for a balanced approach is reasonable," Woodward wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Post, "and he makes a strong case that those in the top income brackets could and should pay more. But that was not the deal he made."
Woodward explained that the final deal reached on the debt ceiling "included an agreement that there would be no tax increases in the sequester."
Congressional Republicans have brandished Woodward's reporting as evidence that the administration is solely responsible for the budgetary chaos, but the White House isn't having it.'

of course it isn't Oblamer's fault. and because he & Dems are pushing mortgages for minorities with bad credit AGAIN...he'll be blaming someone else for the major bank default due to bad loans.
"The committee failed." I rest my case.

This deserves more of an answer.

If I had a child who was murdered, regardless of the method, no amount of money, insurance or otherwise, would be sufficient or even necessary.

The only compensation that I would desire would be the prompt execution of the murderer, through the legal process or otherwise.

The parents of Newtown were denied this satisfaction.

Any suggestions that Obama wants complete power and has control over the media is assinine and anyone who thinks that might want to check in at their local mental health clinic.
On a side note Hitler wasn't in favor of any wealth distribution and was firmly in bed with the industrialists.

1) We need assault type rifles with 30 round magazines to defend ourselves.
2) Yet, attacks on our schools by those toting these assault type rifles with 30 round magazines can be stopped by a teacher toting a handgun.
Well, maybe, if she sneaked up behind him while he was emptying his thirty-round clip and unloaded her weapon in his back as he was trying to reload?(That way, all his "targets" would already be down, so she'd run less chance of collateral damage, a la, NYC cops.)

Was that President Obama's first choice?
Or was that is desperate attempt to get the frickin morons in Congress to stop risking the whole country for their political gain? Did you forget how they failed so miserably that it caused our credit rating to go down?
Blaming Obama for the sequester is like blaming a firefighter for saving the baby and losing the house.
You all just WANT him to be wrong so badly that you'll make up anything.
There is no rational basis for blaming Obama for the sequester. Those right-wing Republicans in Congress caused the entire problem from start to finish.
End of story.
Tony C the President had an option either to sign or not to Sign, he Choose to Sign IT, Yes its Obama’s Sequester!!

Everything I said about Chavez is true. Maybe you should find the same article and read it.
There are plenty to choose from.
Chavez systematically came into power through control of the media and the private sector. His motives were also to make things easier on the poor. Maybe if his goal wasn't increasing government and control, the private sector would have grown and more opportunites provided to the poor.
Why do I always feel like I'm talking about Obama when Chavez is the topic of discussion?

However, Obama most definitely wants control. Why is he growing government by leaps and bounds, usurping his authority by bypassing Congress on major policy decisions, making government and himself the CEO of corporations and demonizing the opposition in every other word he says?
Where have you been?
Are you dizzy from spinning so hard?

No, he definitely does not want control. That you would even suggest this proves your own bizarre bias.

He is not growing government by leaps and bounds, nutcase.

He is not usurping authority. Congress is an obstacle because they made themselves an obstacle. We still need to keep moving as a country.

by November 2014 more negative consequences of obamacare will have hit the formerly oblivious/uninformed--they ones who were busy watching Honey Boo Boo and American Idol last fall. especially when they can't see a doctor and/or find themselves dumped into Medicaid. the only hope to offset that negativity will be amnesty for more takers, since they will vote democrat. the upper middle class and wealthy will pay out of pocket for private healthcare and pay the tax for not having insurance. everyone else will be waiting in line to see a doctor, behind the illegals. if you want to see a glimpse of it now, just go to any emergency room on a busy night.

Oh, pick me, pick me! We've had a resource officer, closed circuit cameras, and metal detectors here forever it seems. About six years ago, one of our SAFY kids (three-hundred-pound African Queen) went nuts in study hall. Resource officer was in his way as he charged down A-hall. Long story short, kid climbed up his back in a smashing take down, and the officer (about 27) retired on disability.

Connecticut legislators are expected to pass sweeping gun-control legislation on Wednesday, becoming the third state since the Dec. 14 shooting in Newtown to do so.
But until recently, it wasn’t clear whether any legislation would even come to a vote. Connecticut has several strict gun laws in place — it was one of the few to pass a state assault weapons ban in 1993. But in recent years, the state’s pro-gun groups, using grassroots and legislative pressure, have killed two major pieces of gun-control legislation in a coordinated offensive. They strongly opposed any new laws after Newtown.
This time, though, something was different.
Local residents in support of gun-control began turning up at hearings that were once largely attended by gun advocates.
