-Well, to be fair, there was some of that lion-feeding thing going on, particularly at the end, but it really didn't lend itself to an arena spectacle and it hardly was limited to the christian cult. I mean the first throat he rips out pretty much is lunch and he and his mates or she and her sisters, will settle in for a meal. Onlookers complained that there were knots of prisoners relatively unscathed and milling about at these things while the lions would roll over and put their feet in the air after killing just a few of them. The Romans, ever with an eye to business had to use archers and spear-chuckers to finish the rest off. But slaughtering people all day for a month is a messy business, and, what with no real sanitation and bodies piling up in the streets, Romans came to prefer more... pedestrian pursuits. The Roman version of NASCAR or sea battles with galleys rowing around firing arrows at one another. But the main thing, carol, is that the Fall of the Roman Empire, a 300 year fall as it happened, was a direct result of too few having too much and severe environtmental degradation, plain as that. Everybody else wanted their stuff but the Romans wanted to keep it. the battle o' tiny brained one, was not between the Romans and the "christians," it was between the rich and the poor, which is what some of the poor were at that time. Rome died of civil wars not religious ones. As Galt says, you people were just in the way... much like now.

-Well, not 'morons' precisely, more like... opportunists. Like the "Saints" of today in our country, they saw the need in the eyes of the people for relief and change and they just chose what seemed as the most useful means to gin up some support for some form of that. Nothing that poor people love more than having someone poorer than them to look down on. Have you ever read Flavius, my dear? In Latin? Does he seem... "mainstream" to you?

-Wow! I could almost hear the bullets clicking against your false teeth as you said that... they'll do fine, sweetie. And, on the plus size, they're a lot less likely to rape and kill the women and children in this imaginary future conflict of yours.

-Good God, John Wayne lives! Modern combat is fought from afar, sweetie, are you forgetting you own talking points already? Americans aren''t going to go tromping around in other people's countries any more, it's too fucking expensive and as the last fifty years has clearly demonstrated, the word, "victory" has no discernible meaning. You yourself go around claiming the U.S. military has "won" conflicts we not only started, but then proceeded to lose. Badly. The stroke of genius that saved what was left of our asses in Iraq and Afghanistan was to PAY the guys who were killing our soldiers not to do it anymore. How the fuck dumb do you have to be to realize that future "adventures" will be conducted remotely and anybody could do the job required since it's a very simple job to do.

-Ummm. no. Nope. I mean nobody but you... Got a little cash in a foreign bank, huh? Naughty, naughty...

-Well then, she had a lot in common with the Commander in Chief at that time, didn't she?

Eh?
The Roman Colosseum was the sight for many Christian martyrs.

Wild beasts being let loose on poor souls who happened to find themselves there was considered amusement on the part of Romans, Christians included.

Most early Christians faced a much worse death than being eaten alive, however.

Almost blew a gasket tonight. At first, I was just shocked hearing Bill Maher say to his liberal pals they're going to lose him because California is about to tax his ass into fresh-mowed grass. And then shock turned into flat out nail eating anger.
I wish Maher's precious Democrats could force him to pay every single penny they want him to fork over.
He was oh so fine with Obama taxing everyone else and oh so fine with Obama wanting to increase taxes again and oh so fine with Obamacare taxing us again right around the corner.
But when it hits too close to home? My oh my oh my, Mr. Bill "I'm the liberal poster child" Maher says he's going to take his purse and go home??? Really now?
That was about a half hour ago and I'm just now reaching my level of normal even-keeled frustration again.
Unbelievable. The blatant hypocrisy. We've become so dumbed down, only half of us can even see it anymore.

If you are an American and seek to dodge American tax laws then you are a criminal and belong with the other criminals bein' ass-raped by bubba who's doing 20 to life for selling pot to an undercover police officer whose $48,000 a year salary is paid for by tax money from you, theoretically. You must have missed the part about factories and plants using robots and computers when assembly lines once employed a lot of non-college candidates who made rather decent money.

Those jobs are either gone or few and far between.

Skills training and technical schools are highly overlooked but my point was high schoolers often go to college because the only alternative is McDonalds.

So, yes, they do end up flipping burgers with college credits.

Back in the day a divorce used to cost a few hundred dollars so, if you did the math, marrying her was cheaper than driving her home. What's more her parents paid for everything. Slam dunk. Plus, you could, with practice, bang 3 of her 5 bridesmaids when you were in the pond skinny-dipping after the reception. What the hell kind of marriages do you people have?

Top of the world, ma!

-Um... the second coming?

-Oh dear, oh dear, you've inflated the numbers, dear, and, coincidentally, your new total almost equals the number of Iraqis killed by the United States during our recent invasion and subsequent withdrawl. It's sort of like having to pay for being raped by one guy by allowing yourself to be raped by another.

The United States engineered saddam hussein's rise to power because they needed some kind of malleable strongman to keep the Iranians in check so they couldn't threaten the flow of oil to the west, particularly through Saudi Arabia but the rest of the gulf states as well. We encouraged and funded Saddam's war with Iran because we could use Iraq to weaken Iran. Simple as that.

Additionally, George H.W. Bush, god rest his souls, encouraged the Iraqi swamp Arabs to revolt - a civil war if you will - and then did nothing as they were slaughtered as a result. So, actually you could say that the United States is directly and solely responsible for the deaths of over 1.2 million Iraqis, and over 1 million Iranians.

This is not an opinion, this is pure fact. The Great Satan, is, in fact and in reality, The Great Satan.

-Hmmmmm... well, um, no... no that's not true, dear. when you say, "many of the followers of Yeshua were Jews," you are, of course, superficially correct. But of course this was Palestine what else would they be, Arabs? Romans? What you describe is "many of the handful of Jews who decided to be followers of Jesus, you'll recall please that this is the name in question. Why would you try and call him something else, dear? Ok, let's call him, Bob, shall we? Therefore each of us will maintain a foot in both worlds.

Anyway, Bob offended the Jewish power brokers in Palestine, there's no doubt. How could he not, he derided the power of money and the priests themselves, and they allied themselves against him. The few hundreds of merchants and camel herders who lived and worked near the Temple were probably interested in the details but, then as now, the farther out you travel in the city the less people cared. in other words, Bob was just one of thousands of wandering mystics claiming to have, like us, a foot in both worlds. That wasn't just the opinion of the greedy Pharisees, dear, this was the instinctive reaction simple, boring, essentially uneducated, primitive people had to seeing a guy in sandals and a beard talking about the kingdom of heaven being at hand. All Bob lacked was a sandwich board.

I guess you're right about the faith part, how would you ever prove that Bob was/is a God? Maybe Bob was just a guy named Bob, one of a thousand guys named Bob in that place at that time. How would you ever know without proof?

The Jews will "change their tune" anytime they can discern an advantage in it. The very fundament of the Jewish belief system is the belief that Jesus was and now is just a rabbi and a man. And yet the Israeli government has invested several million dollars in providing offices, technology, labor, to bring the Mormon Church to Jerusalem to work on the reconstruction of what is euphemistically called, Historical (Bob.) In other words, they've invited another competing cult to Israel to help fabricate a version of Bob (Jesus) acceptable to both cults.

I'm running out of time but just wanted to put in a good word for the idiotic relic of Turin. It's a nice painting from medieval times and would make good toilet paper. If you're actually stupid enough to believe it offers some sort of proof of Bob than you're beneath contempt. Wait... you are, aren't you.

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele on Monday criticized Rush Limbaugh for making racist remarks about Tom Perez, the Justice Department official who is President Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Labor.

News of Perez's nomination drew opposition from some Republican senators and he quickly came under fire from figures in the conservative media, with Limbaugh comparing him to the “grand kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan” and the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Steele doesn’t understand where Limbaugh is coming from.

“I think we just need to be a little more tempered here,” Steele said.“I just don’t see a basis for, you know, Chavez? How did we jump to that? Oh, because he’s Hispanic? Oh, got it, got it, alright. Again, you can’t take that seriously, and that’s what the American people are tired of, quite frankly.”

There is a job market for college graduates, but only for those who attend quality schools, get good grades, and take quality programs that prepare them for the job market.

Galt once did some work for a major corporation in the construction equipment business. The plant employed thousands of highly-paid non-college graduates and had newly-installed modern equipment. The union (UAW) insisted on a wage scale that paid floor sweepers almost as much as the most skilled machinist in the plant. The company wanted to institute a tiered wage structure for new employees, while leaving existing employees unaffected. The union refused to negotiate, despite company threats to move. So the plant was closed and the equipment moved to a state where the labor market was more receptive to modern reality.

The children of the former employees are probably working at McDonald's instead of the plant where their parents worked.
