...If the Great Recession officially ended three years ago, what do we call it now?
Well Carol, here's the definition of recession;
A significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale-retail trade. The technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a country's gross domestic product (GDP); although the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) does not necessarily need to see this occur to call a recession.

Since we've had a slow but steady growth in manufacturing, and the housing market with stocks hitting new highs and unemployment at a four year low, we can call this a recovery. It would be a more robust recovery if the GOP went along with The President's proposals for needed infrastructure repairs and upgrades but hell that would make sense!

There is no depression moron. We've had four years of growth albeit slow growth thanks to the GOP throwing up roadblocks to any legislation that would actually stimulate the economy.

Why is it that none of the disturbed and hate-filled liberals, who take or steal guns, then go and kill movie-goers and children in schools, has never been identified as a conservative, independent or a NRA member?

Common thread - all of these idiots are deranged Democrats.
The common thread is not democrats, it's the fact you just named a bunch of white people. You forgot Waco, ruby ridge, & most of all George bush. You may have named a couple black folk, but for the most part it's white people that slaughter the innocent in mass numbers. America was founded on the blood of the innocent so I understand killing is the American way, but when you call a person deranged his acts must fall under the senseless murder title (something that happened for no reason/no motive). Yes city life is the jungle, but rarely does a murder happen & there not be a reason for it. The common thread of that group that you named & those you didn't is white people killing innocents for no apparent reason. And you call us deranged!

The DNA of the democratic party is inbred with hate, ignorance, and racism. Mass killings by Democrats or Chicago ghetto style killings from the "culture of violence" are not by angry old white men clinging to their guns and religion.

The inner city ghettos and projects of modern America and its Blue Magnet preserves are the breeding ground 'Blue Magnets' of hate-filled liberalism, racism, poverty, abortion, and killing fields of blacks.

The banks hated Fannie & Freddie & felt they held an advantage in the marketplace.

So they wet to their lap dog, George W Bush.

Bush didn't try to reform them, he tried to put their oversight under White House control instead of Congress.

Even some Republicans in Congress recognized this power grab & said no.

Its being dishonest.

So tell me what legislation the Democrats passed in the first 9 months of 2007 that took us from rosey Bush economy to the worst recession in 80 years?

I don't think a political party should put their party ahead of the good of this country like the Republicans admitted they were doing.

Funny how you support that.

And have a fit when this is pointed out by Obama. Obama's just highlighting how ridiculous the efforts of Republicans jut to block progress in our recovery.

Just like ho Republicans defend each & every loophole in the tax code.

Just like pointing out republicans would trade higher taxes on the wealthy if they could cut medicare.

Just like Republicans threatened to end tax breaks for everyone unless the wealthy got tax breaks

Just like how the same Republicans crying about cuts were the exact same ones voting yes yes yes for spending under Bush.

Tell your party to grow the F*ck up & help fix the problem THEY created.
