The 34A Plans in Vietnam

The single notable element of increased U.S. involvement during 1964 was a program of covert GVN operations, designed to impose "progressively escalating pressure" upon the North. The active U.S. role in the few covert operations that were carried out was limited essentially to planning, equipping, and training of the GVN forces involved, but U.S. responsibility for the launching and conduct of these activities was unequivocal.

Only July 31, 1964, just a few days before the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, South Vietnamese gun boats attacked the North Vietnamese island of Hon Me as part of operation OPLAN 34A. Daniel Ellsberg, a Pentagon official working under US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, will later describe 34A as a “100 percent US operations, utilizing some South Vietnamese personnel along with… foreign mercenary crews, totally planned and controlled by the US, through the CIA and MACV.

Yes, over certain business activity in particular. Such as setting standards for accounting practices, safety standards in the workplace, product safety, anti-pollution standards, etc. Or do you wish to risk more BP oil spills?
Who is watching this powerful bully that can take your money, property and life?
Congress, the Courts, the media (not consistantly), public opinion plays a role. It's not perfect, I admit. The failure to rescind the Patriot Act is troubling.
The media rarely does their job as evidenced by Benghazi and the sequester.
It does fail us.
The current government is like a drug dealer, making people dependent on them and proceeds to take their freedom and money.
Be more specific. I might add, we're not living in the days of Jefferson or Lincoln. Modern governments provide a lot services and need large budgets to function.
The same way Europe succumb to socialism and communism in the 1900's.
Be more specific. The communist countries were mostly those who sided with Hitler during WW II and came under Soviet occupation. Poland, of course, deserved better, as did Czechoslovakia.
I respect your belief but in no way can agree. Your trust in government is so naive. Government is the biggest corporation of all with unlimited power because the people have allowed this to happen.
I don't have full trust in government by any means. But the alternative is anarchy or some other ruling force that might not be much of an improvement.

Government, to a very great extent, is as benign and constructive as those who control it.
Did you finish high school? I would recommend you take a civics course. Government is the problem.
Do away with big government and something will fill the power vaccum. Corporate oligopoly, feudalism, military renegades, who knows...

Besides the fact that you've been posting your C&P propaganda on it for dayz?

You overlook the obvious of the importance, the significance of what transpired.( Whether by selective reasoning or intellectual limitations ...).

A president and an attorney general acting in violation of The Constitution deserve to have their feet held to the fire.

And Rand Paul did just that.

Due Process a'ringin' a bell?

Hussein and Jr thinking they can go unchecked and unchallenged on this issue ... Paul and Cruz put them in check.

THAT'S the "big deal".

If The Jr had been straight from the beginning when he was asked the question, he wouldn't have had to keep back pedaling, "uh, uh, uh" and pressured into conceding the Constitutional answer which he clearly DID NOT want to state.
He could have spared himself from being exploited MACH SCHAU !!!
Instead, he ate Crow.

The only ones who got "handed their ass" were Obama and Holder.

Paul and Cruz were The Dynamic Duo.
Obama & Holder, McCain & Graham, The Four Flunkies!

McCain made a fool of himself.
The old coot was just jealous that he didn't have the cajones of his younger, braver colleague Rand Paul.

Time for senile McCain to exist the political stage. Showboatin' A$$!

Although I should have stated the possibility that Johnson was misled by CIA black ops of the type Prouty mentions.
In a best case scenario for you, Johnson is complicit with the CIA. But this doesn't help you seize the moral high ground.
Because in such a scenario, we simply have a rightwing Democrat working in unison with a rightwing government bureaucracy and in defiance of mainstream Democrat beliefs. Sorry, but this makes LBJ more in political alignment with the Ronald Reagans and GW Bushs of your side.
The key thing is that CIA conservatives were the prime movers of the Vietnam War. They were the first personnel to enter the country. They had operational control of all U.S. units in Vietnam for ten years until the big war opened up. And they were running black operations against the North to provoke a conflict.
CIA conservatives. Live with it.
LBJ was a LIBERAL Democrat.

If JFK had remained in office, none of the Civil Rights legislation or Great Society legislation promoted by LBJ would have passed.

Your revisionist history is a joke.

President John F. Kennedy voted against the 1957 Eisenhower Civil rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Senator Al Gore, Sr.

After JFK became president, John F. Kennedy was opposed the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King, a Republican that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph who too was a black Republican.

Marriage should be a private contract between individuals, not sanctioned or controlled by government in any way.

So what?

If Teddy Kennedy had impregnated Carrie, he would have driven her off a bridge in Chappaquidick and drowned her.

Which would you prefer?

The DNA Argument of "Born Gay" would be better served if The DNA of Identical Twins was studied where one is Heterosexual and one is Homosexual.

Only came to my attention through personal experience.
Identical Twins, one is Homosexual, one is Heterosexual.
Despite exact same DNA. So ... Just an off topic observation.:)

But marriage does have legal bearing in things such as tax law.

The entire problem could be solved by eliminating the use of the word "marriage" & substitute "civil union" in all references to licenses & legal matters.

People would have a "civil union" aspect & a "marriage" aspect (if they so desire) to their weddings.

The homosexual community faces a problem here. If science could isolate the "homosexual gene", would potential parents pass on reproducing if faced with a homosexual child? Or would they opt for gene therapy to eliminate homosexuality.

Just wondering if science might end homosexuality, unless it is a lifestyle choice and not genetic?

From your post, there is this key passage:
"Though information obtained well after the fact indicates that there was actually no North Vietnamese attack that night, U.S. authorities were convinced at the time that one had taken place, and reacted by sending planes from the carriers Ticonderoga and Constellation to hit North Vietnamese torpedo boat bases and fuel facilites."
Common sense suggests it is extremely unlikely that some natural occurence was mistaken for torpedoes and machinegun fire.
So someone is lying here.
To this can be added that the "mistake" aspect was not revealed to the public for years. Yet, it is something those in command would have realized within a few days. In fact, given an event of this magnitude, the ship's commander should have been questioned very early in the game.
Which raises the question, did those in authority sit on that knowledge knowing a war would break out by not telling the whole truth?
As for My Lai, no mistake there. The village was surrounded by U.S. troops, the occupants herded out into the forest, and then small groups marched off out of view and machinegunned.
On the Maddox and false reports of torpedo launches- if that wasn't war already in process, what was?

On My lai-All due to MORE MISinformation, of wrong coordinates.
Ever read any of the transcripts of those present?

Talk about having to live lifetimes of actual trauma.
