Actually, no, they weren't. The Southern Bloc of Democrats were the most powerful bloc in Washington who voted against civil rights legislation up until and including the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
You can do the "liberal shuffle" all you want and try to deny PBS isn't a credible source and even liberal-leaning, but this is what they reported about the KKK in the South:
"Racist activity in the South often took the form of riots that targeted blacks and Republicans."
If you keep reading the article, they also wrote this:
"Across the South, the Klan and other terrorist groups used brutal violence to intimidate Republican voters."

You apparently aren't old enough to know this part of history.
Or you're so far in denial, you'll believe just about anything you're told to believe.
I hope it's the former.
Carol, for the umpteenth time.

Look at the vote for the Civil Rights At of 1964.

You will find that Republicans & Democrats outside the Southern Block voted yes & Republicans & Democrats from the Southen Block voted no.

It was regional.

If it was party, then why didn't the Democrats outside the South vote against it.

Without unions, children under 16 would still be working 12 hour days at 3 cents an hour. Without regulations, we'd have a few hundred years until we're extinct from the amount of toxicity we've created as a species.
My particular 'problem' with financial securities firms, mucking around in the banking system as if it was the petty cash box, is the obvious one: they've 'threatened' to crash our economy for their personal gain, and we bailed them out as 'too big to fail', thus granting them the privilege of socializing risk, while privatizing profit. This is not capitalism. It is greed, oligarchy, and government pandering. And it's fatal to a Republic.

No one is trying to avoid taxes. In fact, it's only the republicans talking about tax reform, fairness across the board and closing loopholes. The Democrats just keep wanting to raise them to pay for more government waste, fraud and duplication.

There have been laws on the books for decades protecting children and everyone else from abuses in the work force.

Unions did their job. Now they've become leeches.

By 2025 SSI and Medicare will use up every tax dollar the federal government collects. That doesn't include Obamacare. Where is the money coming from to pay for the rest of the government?
Cost would be in the range of 15% to 20% of all personal income.

That's what current employee benefits are worth.

Here's Carol with her revisionist views of history again.

Carol hides her ugly racism behind lies.

The simple answer for which Party represents minorities best, look at exit polls.

Democrats won in every ethnic group, balcks and hispanics by huge majorities. Asians, too.

But Carol loves to peddle her juvenile bullshit.

Fact is, the parties switched, led by Texan LBJ.

Most of the bigots in the south switched to Republiclown after the Civil Rights era.

Including Ronald Reagan, Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, etc.

But carry on with your nonsense. Maybe it will help Rmoney win!!

MLK risked his life fighting injustices and racism perpetrated by Democrats in the South. You may not like that part of your party's history, but if MLK were a Democrat in the Deep South in the 1960s, it wouldn't make sense.
According to his own words, he was neither a Democrat or a Republican as he "did not want to be inextricably bound to either party."
So I agree with you that he was not a Republican.
It was Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy (D), however, who gave the FBI authroization to wiretap his phones. He and President John F. Kennedy were both wary of King's association to a New York lawyer involved with the Communist Party USA.
Then again, MLK also happened to like JFK.

There are other sites pushing for this that have estimates & methods as well as the nay sayers.
Basically, single payer ends the insurance company overhead costs& profits & uses bulk purchasing power.
Currently it costs $18K a year for health insurance (paid by my company) for the two of us plus out of pocket expenses (paid by me).
If our income was $100K, according to the link in PA, my company would pay $10K & I would pay $3K.(Corp wage tax of 10% & Individual wage tax of 3%). That far less that the $20K that is spend now.
Perhaps if you flacktards would so some research instead of running screaming through the streets flailing your arms about, you would discover single payer actually would work much more cost effectively than what we do now.

Southern Democrats are members of the U.S. Democratic Party who reside in the American South. In the 19th century, they were the definitive pro-slavery wing of the party, opposed to both the anti-slavery Republicans (GOP) and the more liberal Northern Democrats.

Eventually "Redemption" was finalized in the Compromise of 1877 and the Redeemers gained control throughout the South. As the New Deal began to move Democrats as a whole to the left (at least economically), Southern Democrats largely stayed as conservative as they had always been, with some even breaking off to form farther right-wing splinters like the Dixiecrats. After the Civil Rights Movement successfully challenged the Jim Crow laws and other forms of institutionalized racism, and after the Democrats as a whole came to symbolize the mainstream left of the United States, the form, if not the content, of Southern Democratic politics began to change.

The Myths of Single-Payer Health Care
By David Hogberg

A single-payer health care system is one in which a single-entity -- the government -- collects almost all of the revenue for and pays almost all of the bills for the health care system. In most single-payer systems only a small percentage of health care expenses are paid for with private funds. Countries that have a single-payer system include Australia, Canada, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Single-payer is popular among the political left in the United States. Leftists have emitted tons of propaganda in favor of a single-payer system, much of which has fossilized into myth.
