Seriously, WTF is Up With Bob Woodward?

....Woodward responded the next day that Sperling had no need to apologize. "I for one welcome a little heat; there should [be] more given the importance."

Some threat, huh? As a friend put it via email, "It's odd that a reporter who you would have to assume has had many run-ins, shouting matches, accusations, etc. would go public with his perceived slights. I can't imagine a junior reporter taking this tack now and not being chastised for mishandling it."

Something very odd is going on with Woodward. The point of Sperling's email is clear: he's not taking issue with the idea that the White House proposed the sequester, but he does think Woodward is wrong to say that both sides agreed the sequester substitute would be purely spending cuts with no tax increases. Virtually everyone in Washington agrees that Woodward is wrong about that, yet he's been repeating that line for the past week in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary.

What's more, Sperling quite clearly didn't threaten Woodward, and Woodward didn't take it as a threat at the time. Again: WTF?

The extremely left-wing Los Angeles Times explains in 1999 that the CRA was passed to force banks to make risky loans.
Under Clinton, bank regulators have breathed the first real life into enforcement of the Community Reinvestment Act, a 20-year-old statute meant to combat “redlining” by requiring banks to serve their low-income communities. The administration also has sent a clear message by stiffening enforcement of the fair housing and fair lending laws.

In 1992, Congress mandated that Fannie and Freddie increase their purchases of mortgages for low-income and medium-income borrowers. Operating under that requirement, Fannie Mae, in particular, has been aggressive and creative in stimulating minority gains… Fannie Mae has agreed to buy more loans with very low down payments–or with mortgage payments that represent an unusually high percentage of a buyer’s income. That’s made banks willing to lend to lower-income families they once might have rejected.
The extremely left-wing New York Times noted in 1999 that the GSEs gave out the risky loans under duress from Democrat Bill Clinton.
Fannie Mae, the nation’s biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.
In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called subprime borrowers. These borrowers whose incomes, credit ratings and savings are not good enough to qualify for conventional loans, can only get loans from finance companies that charge much higher interest rates — anywhere from three to four percentage points higher than conventional loans.
According to the New York Times in 2003, George W. Bush tried to stop the Democrats from ruining the economy with these forced loans. He was blocked by Democrats like Barney Frank.
The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee.”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”
Omg not the CRA excuse.

You right whiners get dumber every fricken day of your lying miserable anti-American lives.

The CRA said banks had to make a effort to sell mortgages in their communities to those who could not quite afford the standard rates. They were offered lower rates or lower down payments but they still had to prove they could make those payments.

The CRA had very little to do with the recession.

The only thing the CRA provided was a scape goat for dumbass right whiners searching for something to blame instead of looking in the mirror at their own party.

But__he actually did sign NAFTA into law.
NAFTA was a Republican initiative all the way and a Bush I pet project, it was going to become law whether Clinton signed it or not but Clinton saw value in the agreement too.
It became a textbook example for unintended consequences.

Woodward is under the Obama bus, according to lapdogs like sonicfilter.

But Woodward has more credibility than Obama, so the jury is still out.

Other members of the White House steno pool, formerly called reporters, are cowering in fear.

lol

well let's see how you feel after one of your own smacks you up side the head....

Bob Woodward trolled us (and we got played)

Twitter exploded last night, after Bob Woodward revealed that White House official had warned him he would “regret” saying Obama had moved the goal posts on sequestration.

Predictably, conservatives latched onto this, as it confirmed our suspicion about the Obama Administration’s “Chicago-style” of politics. A lot of mainstream journalists bought into this, too — reflexively believing anything the great Bob Woodward says.

Of course, Woodward (who was expert at trolling for publicity before the internet even existed), benefits greatly from the publicity (nothing sells books like controversy).

Make no mistake. This was no accident. As Politico reported last night,

“Woodward repeated the last sentence, making clear he saw it as a veiled threat.“‘You’ll regret.’ Come on,” he said.“I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say,‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’”

But today, things look different. P0litico has posted the exclusive email from Gene Sperling to Woodward. It begins,“I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today.”

(Frightening, I know!)

Sperling’s email eventually does say,“I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim.” But this is clearly not a veiled threat of retaliation, but rather a warning that the reporter was about to get the story wrong.

When Woodward tells of being warned he would “regret” challenging Obama, it sounds ominous. But if Politico’s reporting today is correct, it seems much more innocuous than that.

Looks like we were played.

Woodward was once the liberals "darling" for taking down Nixon.

If the liberal media were doing their job and holding ALL in power accountable on behalf of the people, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

“A 22-year-old man found himself facing a summons after he told officers he fired his shotgun repeatedly upon finding masked suspects leaning in his window.” Huh? But the Vice President of these here U-Nited States said firing warning shots with a shotgun is the sine qua non in home defense strategy. Ol’ Double Barrel Joe even confided that he advised his own wife to do just that if she ever felt threatened in their home. Guess that doesn’t apply in Virginia. Trevor Snowden of Virginia Beach “told police his dog was acting strange. When he walked to his bedroom, he said he saw two masked suspects leaning in his open window”...

From wavy.com :

Snowden told police the suspects pointed weapons at him and told him to shut the bedroom door. Thinking the suspects were going to rob him, he moved into the hallway and retrieved a shotgun.

Moyers said Snowden fired through his bedroom door, then opened the door and fired several more rounds toward the window. Any suspects fled the area and could not be located by officers.

Snowden’s been charged with reckless handling of a firearm. Since this was all just a misunderstanding – Trevor was obviously just following government sanctioned advice – we’re sure the Veep will be glad to cover his attorney’s fees and any fines that may be assessed.
