This week in Crazy Racist Gun Nut Playhouse

Holy effing eff, these people are nuts. Whenever someone asks how much of the current hysteria from the gun fetishists is based on crazy-ass racism and general hallucinatory fantasies as to the imminent doom of lily-white America, point them to this, and stand back:

[Gun Owners of America president Larry Pratt] predicted that President Obama may begin confiscating guns in order to provoke a violent response to justify further oppression, which host Stan Solomon feared would lead to the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of people.

Pratt once again insisted that Obama is acting like King George III, a sentiment with which Solomon concurred, saying,“That will happen quickly and they will wipe those people out to set an example.”

But Solomon wasn’t finished:“I believe they will put together a racial force to go against an opposite race resistance, basically a black force to go against a white resistance, and then they will claim anyone resisting the black force are doing it because they are racist.”

Howard agreed:“You may be right because he has been sowing the seeds of racial hatred; we were healing quite well as a nation on racial issues until Obama came along and now we have a lot of racial discord.”

First off, nice touch on the Mr. Rogers sweaters, that really adds a capping touch of surrealism to the whole batshit enterprise. Second off, if you believe President Obama is planning to put together an army of black people to hunt down white people and take their guns away, or whatever the hell that was, then Oh My God you are the pitch-perfect example of someone who should never, under any circumstances, be allowed to own a gun, or a knife, or even a sharp pencil. It's felt markers for you or nothing, buddy. All of these people are about one dark-skinned mailman away from declaring that the race wars are upon us, climbing to the top of their very own custom-built wood pallet clock towers, and shooting anything that moves.

See, this is what I'm talking about. If you own guns primarily because you think you will someday need those guns in order to someday start shooting at the government for wanting to take those guns, then you are the exact sort of person who should not be owning guns. Good Lord—the NRA wants us to start making a big, national list of crazy people? We've found another three, and make sure to use a bold font for these ones.

Republicans have only themselves to blame for the sequester
The Republicans have a remarkably incoherent position on the sequester: It is a terrible policy that must be replaced with a cuts-only solution, they say, but there is no actual GOP plan that fits this description. Republicans seem to be hoping that President Obama will negotiate with himself until they are satisfied.

The sequester cuts department funding. Obama is free to choose which services are cut. Seems like he prefers to cut border security and airline safety in the field instead of bureaucratic jobs in Washington. What a surprise?

My sense, Obama said, talking about the GOP position on the sequester,is that their basic view is that nothing is important enough to raise taxes on wealthy individuals or corporations, and they would prefer to see these kinds of cuts that could slow down our recovery over closing tax loopholes. And thats the thing that binds their party together at this point.
So Republicans would rather see the country sink into sequester-induced Hades than harm one hair on the heads of their rich friends? Really?
One can be sure, once the sequester takes hold, that every teacher, fireman and police officer who has lost a job along with anyone whose ambulance didnt arrive in time or whose flight was delayed more than 15 minutes will be paraded through the East Room so that all might know only cold hearts beat in Republicans breasts.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would lose his speakership if he agrees to new tax revenues to avert the across-the-board spending cuts that are set to kick in on March 1.

In the battle over the sequester, Boehner has maintained his pledge not to entertain any new tax revenues. President Barack Obama and Democrats have called for a resolution that consists of both spending cuts and increased revenue, such as closing corporate tax loopholes and implementing the Buffet rule to raise taxes on billionaires.

During a news conference Monday, Boehner showed no signs of hedging.

"The president says we have to have another tax increase in order to avoid the sequester, he said. "Well, Mr. President, you got your tax increase. Its time to cut spending here in Washington."

NYT David Brooks on his Sequestration Column:'I probably went a bit too far'

"The above column was written in a mood of justified frustration over the fiscal idiocy that is about to envelop the nation. But in at least one respect I let my frustration get the better of me. It is true, as the director of the Congressional Budget Office has testified, that the administration has not proposed a specific anti-sequester proposal that can be scored or passed into law. It is not fair to suggest, as I did, that tax hikes for the rich is the sole content of the presidents approach. The White House has proposed various constructive changes to spending levels and entitlement programs. These changes are not nearly adequate in my view, but they do exist, and I should have acknowledged the balanced and tough-minded elements in the presidents approach."

A majority of the country believes the Republican Party is out of touch with the American people, too extreme and inflexible to change, according to findings released Tuesday by Pew Research Center, placing the GOP in decidedly lower public esteem than the Democratic Party.

Sixty-two percent said the GOP is out of touch with Americans, compared with 46 percent who said the same of Democrats. A little more than half, 52 percent, called the Republican Party "too extreme," while 56 percent said the Democratic Party is not too extreme. Similarly, 56 percent said Republicans are not open to change, compared with 58 percent who actually said the opposite of Democrats.

Obama already got his tax increases without conceding any spending cuts.

Time to address the other side of the ledger.

Democrats have a choice between the sequester and negotiated spending reductions. The ball is in their court.

Twice Rubin describes our situation today as scary.
Remarkable. Our uncles and fathers turned the Empire of the Sun and Third Reich into cinders in four years, and this generation is all wee-weed up over Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
For all intents and purposes,(Bibi) Netanyahu is now the Wests protector, says Rubin. How so? Because Obama and Chuck Hagel seem to lack the testosterone to execute a military strike on Iran.
Yet according to the Christian Science Monitor, Bibi first warned in 1992 that Iran was on course to get the bombin three to five years! And still no bomb.
And Bibi has since been prime minister twice. Why has our Lord Protector not manned up and dealt with Iran himself?
Answer: He wants us to do itand us to take the consequences.

Furloughs are pay cuts, not layoffs.

Federal employees are overpaid anyway, so about time.
