Ronald Reagan Didn't Share the GOP's '47 Percent' Problem<quoted text>
Just what makes you think I hate the president who turned around the Cold War and beat the Democrats? What makes you think I hate the president who steered government money in the direction of everyone who developed the technologies that made the dot-com boom happen?
Why do you hate Reagan?
Now, tell us about the plan the Democrats have to increase the number of people paying income taxes in the United States. It's an obvious fact that half the population paying all the income taxes for the entire population won't last.
Reagan criticizing the tax laws he inherited for raising taxes on the poor.
Reagan praising his tax reform for freeing families in poverty from taxation.
Reagan promising in his 1985 State of the Union address to make families "living at or near the poverty line ... totally exempt" from federal income taxes.
Reagan characterizing his plan to make poor families tax free as "pro-family".
And here's President George W. Bush ten years later promising to remove millions of families from income tax rolls.
Today's weird GOP obsession with raising taxes on the poor while other Republicans promise $500,000 tax cuts for the rich is not only a tone-deaf display of supply-side economics ad absurdum, but also a dramatic departure from very recent history.
democrats didn't cause the problem so why should they be the ones who need to fix it?
and they're getting tired of fixing problems left behind by republicans.
