President Obama’s State of the Union last night was something of a dud. Cautious and boring, the speech was Obama’s message to a Congress that’s unable either to pursue his goals or to develop alternatives. Soaring rhetoric would have been wasted on that audience, as would detailed proposals. The main point was this: when Congress does nothing, the executive will press his independent authority to the legal limit, and perhaps beyond. In that respect, the speech could have been given by any recent president, including George W. Bush.

http://www.theamericanconservative.com/barack...

Should the economy continue to stagnate, we can expect to hear more economic nationalism in Obama’s remaining annual messages. If Obama fails to seize the opportunity, Republicans will have a more promising message at their disposal than Marco Rubio’s dusty Reaganisms.

Getting “Cozy” with Iran and Other Lies

Watching the Armed Services Committee meeting yesterday was not anyone’s idea of a pleasant way to spend the better part of an afternoon. It was a repeat of most of the worst moments of the confirmation hearing two weeks ago, and in some respects it was even worse than the hearing. The most contentious moment came when Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) reprimanded Ted Cruz for impugning Hagel’s patriotism when he was throwing out random suggestions that Hagel “might” have received money from North Korea or Saudi Arabia. Then Inhofe jumped in to defend Cruz by saying that Iran’s “endorsement” of Hagel’s nomination meant that Hagel was somehow “cozy” with Iran.“You can’t get cozier than that,” he intoned. Of course, it’s easy enough to dismiss all of this as nonsense and move on, but it’s worth saying a few words about how despicable these tactics are.

Between Cruz’s speculation that Hagel could be a foreign agent (he’s not impugning anyone’s patriotism, you see, he’s just “asking questions”) and Inhofe’s assertion that Hagel is somehow responsible for what Iranian officials say about his nomination, at least two of the Republican committee members disgraced their party yesterday. It has been common for many decades in foreign policy and national security debates to hurl accusations of “weakness” and “appeasement” as skeptics of hard-line policies, and war opponents have been routinely portrayed as disloyal or anti-American, but I believe it has been quite rare if not unheard of (at least in my lifetime) to see members of the Senate openly questioning the loyalty of a Cabinet nominee. It was a disgusting display, but unfortunately one that was an all-too-fitting conclusion to a campaign that has been dominated by dishonest and scurrilous attacks.

Given that the relative worth of the person has not increased, just why in the hell should anyone be forced to pay more for the same uneducated and unreliable product?
The reason people are working for minimum wage when they are older than 18 is because they are't worth any more than that. If they were worth more, they would be paid more.
I'm for getting rid of the minimum wage entirely. Let a person choose how much they will be worth to the economy, and be paid accordingly.
here's how you increase your income:
Don't drop out of school.
Don't have children before you are married.
Take advantage of the plethora of opportunites to educate yourself.
STUDY SOMETHING USEFUL TO THE ECONOMY.
GET A GODDAM JOB.
Show up for work every day... on goddam time.
Do what you're being paid to do while you are at work.
Become a student of your profession.
If you CHOOSE to do the above, you will not have to rely on a minimum wage to support yourself.
If you CHOOSE to not do the above, you will need a thief like Obama to steal from people who chose to do the above and give it to you.
And, it's never too late. You can change from a useless course to a useful course at any time in your life. However, the sooner you make that change, the greater your reward will be throughout your life... that is, if Obama's Marxist welfare state doesn't take over everything. Then, everything you earn will be needed to support the mooching Obamavilles that will be created everywhere.
You say some of the dumbest shyt quite often to claim to be as educated which you claim! After Real Dave wore yo ass out like a tux on prom night, you quickly changed subjects. Why is that? Inside the workforce there's what are called laborers. These are the people in which if they quit, the while world stops literally. To your point of who deserves & who doesn't. The prices/cost of living has gone up drastically over the past 10yrs. Living in the most taxed state NJ, back in 02" the cost of rent for a 3 bdrm was $600 average. Now the average has doubled to $1200. Answer this question, has the minimum wage doubled over the last 10yrs? These minimum wage people go to work don't worry about how much money you make as long as they make enough to provide for their families. it's common sense if the cost of living room have risen so should the minimum wage. & what the hell does having babies in wedlock have to do with the minimum wage? Please do tell! It's amazing how someone with their head up their ass can still believe their shyt don't stink!

Obama's Hunger Games---the new TV show where contestants fight for middle class jobs...fit very well with this.

'The folks at The Washington Post are feeling snubbed by President Obama these days. But they aren’t the only ones, he avoids interviews with print media outlets in favor of television appearances all the time.

“Entertainment Tonight” scored one last year. The New York Times did not.

“The View” has gotten several. The Washington Post hasn’t had one in years.

Albuquerque radio station KOB-FM’s“Morning Mayhem” crew interviewed him in August. The last time the Wall Street Journal did so was in 2009.

America’s newspapers have trouble enough these days, what with shrinking ad revenue and straying readers. But the daily print-and-pixel press also hasn’t gotten much love lately from the biggest newsmaker in the business: President Obama.

When Obama does media interviews these days, it’s not with a newspaper. TV gets the bulk of the president’s personal attention, from his frequent appearances on “60 Minutes” to MTV to chitchats with local stations around the country. Magazines — including the New Republic, which recently landed an interview conducted by its owner, Facebook co-founder and former Obama campaign operative Chris Hughes — are a distant second, followed by radio.

Why would he waste his time with SERIOUS (albeit biased in his favor) news outlets that the uninformed voters don’t bother with? Better to reach the masses with his personal charm and friendly media outlets, as Ed Morrissey pointed out.

Instead of focusing attention on the readership of newspapers, which are more politically attuned and probably in Obama’s camp already, Obama focused on media outlets that catered to the less-engaged and less-informed. That gave him an opportunity to sell his agenda without facing tough questions from politically-engaged and informed reporters, making the sale even easier.

Even his interviews in more traditional outlets came with reporters who aren’t exactly inclined to get tough with Obama. He chose CBS’ Steve Kroft because Kroft wasn’t going to surprise him with tough questions — as Kroft himself admitted to Piers Morgan. Farhi also notes that Obama’s interview in The New Republic, normally a politically sophisticated magazine, was conducted by new publisher and former Obama adviser and volunteer Chris Hughes.(Read More)

Morrissey went on to note that the media outlets continue to let him get away with what I’ calling a Hunger Games strategy. Politics has turned into a complete spectacle. Just look at the upcoming State of the Union address. They bring human props, like Nancy Pelosi inviting a Sandy Hook survivor as a special guest, no doubt to guarantee a little extra TV time. Washington, DC has become the center of the United States economy, as the bureaucrats extracting our money regulate our lives down to the minutia. All the while the people watch the spectacle they put on day in and day out with no inkling that their rights and liberties are being violated on a daily basis. It’s just another reality show.

We’re in a lot of trouble. The Washington Post wonders, Are we in the End Times of Trust in Government?

Oh, yes. But I think we’re also in the End Times of being able to rescue ourselves from this headlong tumble we’re taking as a nation willing to be lied to, comfortable with fakery andfecklessness, and content to caricature and sneer at the people trying to preserve basic freedoms.(Read More)

The only difference I see between the people in DC today, and those in the Capitol of the Hunger Games is that in DC most (but not all) have avoided the garish makeup and outfits depicted in the movie. Oh, and they aren’t forcing the states to send up tributes to fight to their death for all to witness. Not yet anyway. As it is, politics has become just another gross form of reality TV for the masses.'*

Breitbrat Shapiro Tries to Project Worst Conservative Traits Onto Liberals

If anyone didn't think this guy was quite insufferable enough during his interview on Piers Morgan last month, you're in luck. You can be treated to almost an entire hour of his whining about how liberals are keeping the poor conservative white man down.

This was a talk he gave at Jim DeMint's wingnut Heritage Foundation a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, Breitbart protege Ben Shapiro has got a book to sell, so naturally he's being promoted by the likes of C-SPAN, which sadly leans way, way to the right with their Book TV series. They ended up treating their viewers to what was one long exercise in projection, claiming that liberals just want to silence conservatives, making ridiculous claims that conservatives are somehow shut out of the political debate in the United States, and are being oppressed by some secret liberal cabal out there who makes sure no one can hear their message.

[Insert laughter here.]

In Shapiro's world, Media Matters has a whole lot more influence than I'd give them credit for. Plus, there's some grand conspiracy to keep conservatives out of Hollywood and our educational institutions. And you can't dare call a conservative a racist ever... never, ever... and don't dare call voter suppression racist or mention anything about their policies being racist, because then you're just pandering and trying to pick on them and YOU JUST BETTER SHUT UP.

And heaven forbid someone picked on poor ALEC and forced them to run away from the "stand your ground" laws. Yes, and Al Sharpton is a big bad meanie who, along with the rest of the "liberal media," tried to frame George Zimmerman.

I don't know if anyone's got the stomach for the rest of his pity party, but you can watch the entire event here. I'll leave everyone with a quote from one of my fellow contributors here at C&L, Mugsy, who relayed his feelings on this pity party of Shapiro's by email:

As noted, classic "projection". I've been saying for years that "if a conservative accuses you of something, it's only because they either did the same thing themselves or would if they were in your shoes."

I guess that would make them landscapers, housekeepers, wait staff, animal trainers...maybe her name was really Eva and her ancestors are named Marco and Julio and Jesus.(I digress) I suppose that they were eventually supposed to shamelessly boink each other, thus producing other Garden staff (wonder if they were to be considered 3/5 of anything), but they weren't thrown out for boinking. They wanted to know stuff, so they ate from the Tree of Knowledge--God had told them not to, however, I think a good lawyer might have gotten the whole thing thrown out as entrapment...don't think they had lawyers yet, just serpents--which soon answered the question as to just where Eva got her shoes...again, I digress, the Garden of Eden was clearly meant to be a Utopian society based on patriarchy and socialism and the Grumpy Old Prick mantra of ignorance is bliss and God'll get ya' if you ain't dumb was spread...(sock drawer denizens please refrain from reading as your misshapen little heads could explode.)
Oh, baby, I'm a noodle. It is sooooooooooo nice to sit in the steam and... well, wish you were there. You know, I know I've suggested this a million times, but if you were to condescend to wake up with me each day I could rub your feet, etc., without having to merely imagine or suggest it. This would make this relationship significantly easier for me, at least.

You make a good point though (two of them, certainly)(little pink rosebuds... but I digress...) in any event, of course Adam and Eve were created to be servants! How could I have overlooked it! And the snakeskin shoe thing, another brilliant insight! I just love you and would like to HUG you and SQUEEZE you if I had any strength left in my arms, which I don't, but I would. What would a loving god create people for if not to serve him! You're a doll. Send me some panties please that I might celebrate your absent loins.

A Polish cardinal has provoked fury by saying:'you don't get down from the cross' while discussing Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign in a radio interview.

Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Cracow, made the remark in reference to Benedict's predecessor the late Pope John Paul II, who continued as Pontiff while suffering a long and agonising death from Parkinson's disease.
