An oil rich country for Halliburton.
As it was, it propped up the price of oil making oil companies prosper. That Iraq war probably jacked up the price of oil by $30/ bbl.
Perhaps you were in a coma when Obama declared himself and all of his subjects to be the subjects of the King of Saudi Arabia.

Rebrand the Tea Party: Keep the mission, dump the name.
The Tea Party brand has been effectively destroyed. After three years of demonizing the Tea Party as ‘racist,’‘extremist,’ and ‘radical,’ the brand has become a cancer.
It is now a drag on the candidates it supports, with the Left (and GOP establishment types like Karl Rove) gleefully labeling conservative candidates as “outside the mainstream.”
In the meantime, while the Tea Party had once enjoyed 24% popularity, according to a recent Rasmussen poll, only 8% of Americans now identify themselves as members of the Tea Party.
While that is the lowest it has been in the three years, there is some positive news in that poll: Thirty percent of the poll’s participants do hold favorable views of the Tea Party. That is something to build on.
However, insofar as it has been branded and is now associated with negativism, the brand itself must change in order to build and grow again.

Counterculture Conservatism

The right needs less Ayn Rand, more Flannery O’Connor

How to revive the flagging fortunes of the Republican Party might matter to some people, but it’s not a question that should concern principled conservatives. Crypto-conservatives aplenty stand ready to shoulder that demeaning task. Tune in Fox News or pick up the latest issue of National Review or the Weekly Standard and you’ll find them, yelping, whining, and fingering our recently reelected president as the Antichrist.

Conservatives who prefer thinking to venting—those confident that a republic able to survive eight years of George W. Bush can probably survive eight years of Barack Obama—confront a question of a different order. To wit: does authentic American conservatism retain any political viability in this country in the present age? That is, does homegrown conservatism have any lingering potential for gaining and exercising power at the local, state, or national levels? Or has history consigned the conservative tradition—as it has Marxism—to a status where even if holding some residual utility as an analytical tool, it no longer possesses value as a basis for practical action?

To which a properly skeptical reader may respond, perhaps reaching for a sidearm: exactly whose conservative tradition are you referring to, bucko?

Well, I’ll admit to prejudices, so let me lay them out.

(Fans of Ayn Rand or Milton Friedman will want to stop reading here and flip to the next article. If Ronald Reagan’s your hero, sorry—you won’t like what’s coming. Ditto regarding Ron Paul. And if in search of wisdom you rely on anyone whose byline appears regularly in any publication owned by Rupert Murdoch, well, you’ve picked up the wrong magazine.)

Perfect example of how low Democrats go. dead husbands?

God am I glad I left the Democrat party!
carols dead husband wrote:
Look what you've done to my wife, mother of my precious daughter, and guardian of white fetuses everywhere. Yes! I said GUARDIAN -- meaning that since her "sea change," (during which she morphed from street w**re to Earth mother), she is now (and has STATED it here upon numerous occasions, in a SHRILL bray) willing to DIE for even ONE of what you would throw away like TRASH -- like that monstrous party girl did to dear little KAYLEE ANTHONY!
I also see that you've finally managed to drive my wife to actually call herself Debil's sex organ. The carol I knew would never have done that; she would have forged on passive-aggressively and resolutely, her legs planted firmly before her computer, like the last of the coastal redwoods, who on some level (like the lowland gorillas), must know that they are doomed, but still go about their gorilla lives, their redwood lives, because, well, what else are you gonna do?
I'll tell you the kind of woman carol is: She cried huge crocodile tears (I forget if that means the real kind, but no matter) whenever she saw one of those wonderful Christian channels begging for your spare quarters to feed little Ungoodoo in Somalia or whatever hellhole unsuitable for life, similar to Texas or Arizona. She would clutch a picture of our kindly (albeit quite slow and poorly proportioned as you might imagine) to her capacious bosom until the glass frame nearly shattered with the force of her emotion.
I remember her collection of gayly-colored plush animals -- doggies, kitties, monkeys, turtles even, which she would actually address. Examples: "How are my widdle darlings today? Did y'all sleep tight and not let the bedbugs bite?" and "Which of you rascals wants some night eggs and bac-ey this morning, and who wants to keep pouting?" Stuff like that.
Instead of recognizing what a treasure carol is -- a woman woman dynamo of protection and advocacy for our dwindling freedoms and removal of a pretender President who will drag us further and further down until the Bible is no more than relic of the iron age of humanity, and the Constitution no more than a document fit to line a cat box. There are misguided individuals here to see fit to constantly ejaculate upon her precious upturned, chubby face (and Nanoencephaly's, and Jane's too)-- I mean over and over -- using words such as "BLURT," or "SPLORT," which I admit would be quite comical if it they were not addressed to my still Earthly angel. This is so wrong, so unfair. All she wants, all she's ever wanted is justice for those swept from the womb before they've ever toddled in cute little pink or blue sneakers, tasted something sour and made a funny face, gotten their first little teeth and downed their first burger from Mickey D's, then felt the first urgings "down there" to get busy and multiply themselves!
Yes, carol hates this President. Who wouldn't after what he's done to besmirch the good honorable names of "Bush," and "Cheney," and the latest parade of defenders of solid Christian values and the nipping in the bud of socialist engineering and the other host of outrages this DICTATOR is trying to foist on an unsuspecting public who seem unwilling unable to learn from history or hearing the clarion call of my wife's wisdom.
I just wanted to let you know the resource you're trashing on here. You'll remember when you hear the first rumblings of the Horseman in the distance. But then it will be too late, I'm afraid.

Discriminatory practices, especially those intended to "preserve" emerging white suburbs, restricted the ability of blacks to move from inner cities to the suburbs, even when they were economically able to afford it.

Dying Breed

Who Killed the Responsible Republican? Bill Kristol, of course.

Do you remember the Responsible Republicans? In the 1980s, small herds of them still roamed freely around Washington. In 1982, they voted for the largest tax increase in history to mitigate the fiscal harm of Ronald Reagan's 1981 tax cut. In 1983, they converged on Capitol Hill to pass a package of tax increases and benefit cuts recommended by the Greenspan Commission to keep Social Security solvent. In 1986, they followed Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson to pass bipartisan immigration reform legislation by a large majority. In 1990, several were spotted with President George H.W. Bush (the Responsible one) at Andrews Air Force Base, conspiring to reduce the deficit.

After the Andrews summit, however, glimpses of them outside captivity became increasingly rare. With their habitats in the Northeast, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest under threat and their natural predators on the rise, the status of the species moved from "threatened" to "endangered." Though occasionally spotted on the rocky shoals of Maine's Penobscot Bay and in beach houses up and down the California coast, they now rarely emerge from the wilderness. During the health care battle, President Obama was unable to find a single Responsible Republican to serve as a mascot. There continue to be rumors of the Double R's return around issues such as immigration, financial reform, and climate change. Yet we have now gone several years without a confirmed sighting.

If Responsible Republicans are in fact nearing extinction, I think we can identify the crucial event that signaled their demise. It was a December 1993 memo by conservative strategist and commentator William Kristol. Kristol's advice about how Republicans should respond to Bill Clinton's 1993 health care effort—and a series of follow-up memos he wrote in 1994—pushed the GOP away from cooperation with Democrats on any social and economic legislation. His message marks the pivotal moment when Republicans shifted from fundamentally responsible partners in governing the country to uncompromising, hyperpartisan antagonists on all issues.

Subtract the number of brilliant judge-its you gave yourself on any post from the total number of brilliant judge-its on that post. The answer will equal the number of people that think you're smarter than a door knob.
