BLAME OBAMA NO MORE BUSH The three great evils cited by Dr. Martin Luther King have proliferated since his passing. Here’s an index of their influence, today.

MLK Injustice Index 2013: Racism, Materialism and Militarism in the US

by Bill Quigley

“We as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values…when machines and computers, profit motives and property rights, are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism and militarism are incapable of being conquered.” Martin Luther King, Jr., April 4, 1967

While the US celebrates the re-election of its first African American President and the successes of numerous African Americans in all walks of life, there remain troubling challenges.

While remembering how far this nation has come since Dr. King was alive, we cannot forget how far we have still to go to combat the oppressions of racism, materialism and militarism.

Racism

Whites have 22 times more wealth than blacks and 15 times more wealth than Latinos. Median household net worth for whites was $110,000 versus $4,900 for blacks versus $7,424 for Latinos, according to CNN Money and the Census Bureau.

African Americans are 12.3 percent of the population but 4.7 percent of attorneys.

Latinos are 15.8 percent of the population but only 2.8 percent of attorneys.

African American students face harsher discipline, have less access to rigorous high school classes and are more likely to be taught by less experienced and lower paid teachers according to a government sponsored national survey of 72,000 schools.

13% of whites, 21% of blacks and 32% of Hispanics lack health insurance, according to the Kaiser Foundation.

The latest Census analysis shows 9% of white families below the US poverty level and 23% of Black and Hispanic families below the same levels.

So what's free about it??
Can you jaywalk legally??
Can you avoid paying taxes legally??
Can you drive a car without a license legally??
Can you ignore traffic laws legally??
Can you yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater legally??
There are laws that make illegal many common behaviors. They are there to control those who step out of line.
You can't even gather and protest where you want to. The Gov't has rules to control people.
You need a permit to protest, or risk arrest!!
Disobey them you get arrested.
I think CA has more of these laws than most other states.
So being able to post propaganda on Topix leads you to believe you're free??
You've got a funny notion of freedom.
you sound happy about being a slave...

Truth is no SIN wrote:
The Obama administration’s vendetta against whistleblowers continues with the sentence of 30 months jail time handed down on Friday for former CIA agent John C. Kiriakou, who in 2007 acknowledged that US agents were involved in torture.
On December 10, 2007, Kiriakou was interviewed on ABC News about the capture of Abu Zubaydah, who the Bush administration claimed was an Al Qaeda “mastermind” and aide to Osama Bin Laden. In the course of the interview, Kiriakou acknowledged that CIA agents waterboarded Zubaydah.
Kiriakou’s statements about torture in the 2007 interview were ambivalent. On the one hand, Kiriakou stated that the torture of Zubaydah was effective in obtaining information. On the other hand, Kiriakou was apparently troubled by the political, legal, and moral implications of torture.
Whatever Kiriakou’s intentions in his initial ABC News interview, his statements represented the first public confirmation by a government agent that Zubaydah had been waterboarded. The interview was widely reported and lauded internationally, but it also made Kiriakou a number of enemies in high places.
Kiriakou’s 2007 interview represented a step forward in efforts to bring to light the criminal abduction, torture, and murder apparatus erected by the US government in the course of the so-called “war on terror.” The revelation that Zubaydah was tortured certainly implicated top personnel in the US government, as well as the torturers themselves, in war crimes and other serious violations of US and international law.
In the upside-down world of the US justice system, the orchestrators of torture remain at large, and Kiriakou is going to prison.
The terrorists are not part of any nation's military, although it is well known that they had state support.
If any Arab country that supported them had stepped forward and claimed them as theirs, then they would automatically qualify for the rights of the Geneva Convention. However, all the Arab countries that supported them pretended they didn't exist and they had never even seen them after Bush began kicking the terrorists' asses.
Their own homies threw them into the garbage.
So, what do you do now? You have these terrorists that no country claims and gives them the protection of the Geneva Convention, and they are part of a huge international terrorist network at war with the United States and have already murdered 3000 americans....

You beat them with a lead-filled rubber hose and pull their fingernails out with pliers and electrocute their balls and cut their ears off and pull their teeth and cut their fingers off ... and waterboard them until they tell you everything they know so you can kill the rest of them.

Period. End of statement. No regrets.

Obama “Co-Conspirator” in Austerity Schemes

“Austerity is, essentially, shifting of the burden of the economic depression from those who created it onto the working class and the poor,” said activist Eric Draitser, who has been organizing anti-austerity forums.“This is a concerted attack by financiers and the ruling class against the legacy of the New Deal.” President Obama is “a co-conspirator and collaborator with these austerity schemes.” Draitser is publisher of the web site StopImperialism.com .

MLK vs. Obama

Barack Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. have nothing in common, politically, according to Omali Yeshitela, chairman of the Black Is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations.“The only connection they would have in the real world be that Dr. King would be leading the demonstrations against the Obama regime, if he were alive,” said Yeshitela. Obama has “extended the war machine beyond anything in recent memory.”

Where was Obama during the 7-hour battle between Al Qaeda and the stripped-down American security detatchment while the real-time video was being watched in the White House?
And;
Where will the money come from to pay for Obama's government?
Since the answers are so logical and obvious, you should have no problems just jotting down them for us.

Don’t You Dare Conflate MLK and Obama
If Dr. King were alive today, there might be a Black president, but he or she would certainly not get MLK’s support if he behaved like Barack Obama. Dr. King would oppose Obama’s wars,“make Wall Street scream, and attempt to render the nation ungovernable under the dictatorship of the Lords of Capital.”

Don’t You Dare Conflate MLK and Obama

by BAR executive editor Glen Ford

“Had King survived, his break with Obama would have come early.”

Back in 1964, under prodding from a BBC interviewer, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. predicted that a Black person might be elected president “in 25 years or less.” Four years later, shortly before his assassination, King confided to actor/activist Harry Belafonte that he had “come to believe we're integrating into a burning house." We now see that the two notions are not at all contradictory. At least some African Americans have achieved deep penetration of the very pinnacles of white power structures – integrating the White House, itself – while conditions of life for masses of Black folks deteriorate and the society as a whole falls into deep decay.

The fires lit by the “giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism, and militarism” that Dr. King identified in his 1967 “Beyond Vietnam: Breaking the Silence” speech are consuming the world, now stoked by a Black arsonist-in-chief. Domestic poverty hovers only a fraction of a percentage below the levels of 1965, with “extreme poverty” the highest on record. Black household wealth has collapsed to one-twentieth that of whites. Today, more Black men are under the control of the criminal justice system than were slaves in the decade before the Civil War, according to Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow.

The intervening years have shown that Dr. King’s 1960s visions were not in conflict: the rooms at the top floors of the national house may have been integrated, but the building still burns.

What he was saying if you bothered to listen, places like Australia which had record breaking temps for a month or more with fires burning everywhere. 3 weeks on and half the country is flooded with record breaking downfalls. This is climate change in action EXACTLY what big Al predicted in his movie. The fact that you and the rest of the heads in the sand Republicans want to put it down to anything else BUT climate change because then you would have to admit being wrong. Keeping in mind these things are rated once in a 100 yr events by insurance companies yet they are every f...g year now. Which means very soon, insurance will just not be affordable. What's even sadder, it's probably too late to address it.

Right, and that the bipartisan senate immigration committee, which includes everyone's favorite expert Mark Rubio has adopted that number which is down from 12.5 million which was the previously agreed upon number back in the Mel Martinez era.

I think it's lower, probably in the 8.5 million range due to the exodus which followed the residential and commercial construction collapse along with the Obama Admins increased deportations. If one takes the time to go state by state__the totals are even below my guess__although in fairness California is tough to call because there are just so many (Latinos and Asians) coming and going.

Illinois is preparing to issue drivers licenses to undocumented joining Washington State and New Mexico. Utah provides the undocumented with temporary permits. They gotta get to work eh?

The deepening crisis of capitalism, the triumph of Wall Street finance over industrial capital, the increasing imperial reversion to international lawlessness in a desperate bid to maintain global supremacy – all this was predictable under the laws of political economy. Had the assassin’s bullet not found him, Dr. King would have continued his implacable resistance to these unfolding evils, rejecting Barack Obama’s invasions, drones and Kill Lists with the same moral fervor and political courage that he broke with Lyndon Johnson over the Vietnam War. Absolutely nothing in King’s life and work indicates otherwise.

“The very notion of a grand austerity bargain with the Right would have been anathema to MLK.”

One school of thought holds that corporate servants like Obama could not have taken root in Black America if Dr. King, Malcolm X and a whole cadre of slain and imprisoned leaders of the Sixties had not been replaced by opportunistic representatives of a grasping Black acquisitive class. In any event, had King survived, his break with Obama would have come early. Surely, the Dr. King who, in his 1967 “Where Do We Go from Here” speech called for a guaranteed annual income would never have abided Obama’s targeting of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in the weeks before his 2009 inauguration. Forty-five years ago, King’s position was clear:“Our emphasis must be twofold: We must create full employment, or we must create incomes.” The very notion of a grand austerity bargain with the Right would have been anathema to MLK.

Were Martin alive, he would skewer the putative leftists and their “lesser evil” rationales for backing the corporatist, warmongering Obama. As both a theologian and a “revolutionary democrat,” as Temple University’s Prof. Anthony Monteiro has described him, MLK had no problem calling evil by its name – and in explicate triplicate. His militant approach to non-violent direct action required him to confront the underlying contradictions of society through the methodical application of creative tension. He would make Wall Street scream, and attempt to render the nation ungovernable under the dictatorship of the Lords of Capital. And he would deliver a withering condemnation of the base corruption and self-serving that saturates the Black Misleadership Class.

He would spend his birthday preparing a massive, disruptive action at the Inauguration.
