Another dissapointment for the ringers that has been rejected. They can't accept the science behind climate change but like Reagan wanted to believe in Star wars tech. Apparently 34,000 signed a petition for Obama to build a death star to defend against the ivading hordes. What's unfortunate probably half the posters on here signed it. lol

If all this was true, why didn't Bush put the brakes on and bring back the financial trading rules that Reagan dropped. He did squat for the same reason Obama hasn't done much either because Wall St owns the Whitehouse. The only hope of correcting some very BAD decisions made by republicans was to reverse them, such as banking stress tests for example. None of the American banks would have passed even the slightest stress test. It becomes pretty pi$$ poor that all the financial rules enforceable on Wall St are off shore. This was nothing to do with Forcing ANYONE to give bad loans thats Fox news BS, no government , not now or then overrode a business decision. It was pure greed chasing higher commissions and interest rates, then defrauding the world packaging them up as triple A rating. Don't try and tell us the liberals did this

This is how it went, the dems tried to force the banks to make bad loans they would never be repaid for, the banks said screw you it ain't happening. The dems/feds stepped in and said, don't worry, we'll allow you to dump them off on someone else and if they go bad the taxpayers will be stuck with them.
And that's exactly how it happened, there's no other possible explanation of why people with money would make bad loans.
Government interference.
The Dems did this??????????
.
.
President Bush Signs American Dream Downpayment Act of 2003
What did Bush say about loans and homes when he signed the NEW Law??????????
.
Last year I set a goal to add 5.5 million new homeowners in America by the end of the decade. That is an attainable goal; that is an essential goal. And we're making progress toward that goal. In the past 18 months, more than 1 million minority families have become homeowners.(Applause.) And there's more that we can do to achieve the goal. The law I sign today will help us build on this progress in a very practical way.
.
.Bush got his wish. Banks started loaning to anyone with a heart beat. 5 years later it all fell apart. 90% of ALL home loans defaulted on in 2008 were 5 years old or LESS!!!!!!!!!! 2008-2003= 5 yrs.

Seems the main reason we're such a divided nation is the lack of interest in searching for the truth.

Community Reinvestment Act had nothing to do with subprime crisis
Fresh off the false and politicized attack on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, today we’re hearing the know-nothings blame the subprime crisis on the Community Reinvestment Act — a 30-year-old law that was actually weakened by the Bush administration just as the worst lending wave began. This is even more ridiculous than blaming Freddie and Fannie.
The Community Reinvestment Act, passed in 1977, requires banks to lend in the low-income neighborhoods where they take deposits. Just the idea that a lending crisis created from 2004 to 2007 was caused by a 1977 law is silly. But it’s even more ridiculous when you consider that most subprime loans were made by firms that aren’t subject to the CRA. University of Michigan law professor Michael Barr testified back in February before the House Committee on Financial Services that 50% of subprime loans were made by mortgage service companies not subject comprehensive federal supervision and another 30% were made by affiliates of banks or thrifts which are not subject to routine supervision or examinations. As former Fed Governor Ned Gramlich said in an August, 2007, speech shortly before he passed away:“In the subprime market where we badly need supervision, a majority of loans are made with very little supervision. It is like a city with a murder law, but no cops on the beat.”
Not surprisingly given the higher degree of supervision, loans made under the CRA program were made in a more responsible way than other subprime loans. CRA loans carried lower rates than other subprime loans and were less likely to end up securitized into the mortgage-backed securities that have caused so many losses, according to a recent study by the law firm Traiger & Hinckley
Finally, keep in mind that the Bush administration has been weakening CRA enforcement and the law’s reach since the day it took office. The CRA was at its strongest in the 1990s, under the Clinton administration, a period when subprime loans performed quite well. It was only after the Bush administration cut back on CRA enforcement that problems arose, a timing issue which should stop those blaming the law dead in their tracks. The Federal Reserve, too, did nothing but encourage the wild west of lending in recent years. It wasn’t until the middle of 2007 that the Fed decided it was time to crack down on abusive pratices in the subprime lending market. Oops.

She simply needs to be spoon fed the information by conservatives. That's all that matters.

lol! No, son. That would depend on the circumstances.

So come liberals for our guns we are waiting and loaded!!!

http://www.gallup.com/poll/20098/Gun-Ownershi...

How many Americans personally own guns, and what do they use them for? A recent Gallup Poll* shows that 3 in 10 Americans personally own a gun; most gun owners say they use their guns to protect themselves against crime, for hunting, and for target shooting. Gun ownership varies by different groups in the country, with men more likely to be gun owners than women, Southerners and Midwesterners more likely than Easterners or Westerners, Republicans more so than Democrats, and older rather than younger Americans.

<quoted text>CRA regulations were rewritten several times making denying loans by banks to minorities a lot more complicated and intimidating.

Under the CRA, banks had to convince a set of bureaucracies that they were not engaging in discrimination, a charge that the act encouraged any CRA-recognized community group to bring forward. Otherwise, any merger or expansion the banks attempted would likely be denied.

The problem they faced under the government's CRA regulations was what counted as discrimination.

It was easier to just give out bad loans.
