WASHINGTON (AP)- While the tax package that Congress passed New Year's Day will protect 99 percent of Americans from an income tax increase, most of them will still end up paying more federal taxes in 2013.
That's because the legislation did nothing to prevent a temporary reduction in the Social Security payroll tax from expiring. In 2012, that 2-percentage-point cut in the payroll tax was worth about $1,000 to a worker making $50,000 a year.
The Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan Washington research group, estimates that 77 percent of American households will face higher federal taxes in 2013 under the agreement negotiated between President Barack Obama and Senate Republicans. High-income families will feel the biggest tax increases, but many middle- and low-income families will pay higher taxes too.
Households making between $40,000 and $50,000 will face an average tax increase of $579 in 2013, according to the Tax Policy Center's analysis. Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will face an average tax increase of $822.
"For most people, it's just the payroll tax," said Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center.

Wasn't that nice of Obama and Reid? In a time of borderline recession with people still jobless and/or struggling, we're all going to have to give them more of our own money to waste.
Think I'm gonna cry...literally.
Wow 11 bucks a week, just how poor are you? Get together with your husband and get your finances in order! You blame Obama and Reid yet the Senate voted 90% and the Republican controlled House also passed.

Bottom line we have to pay for Bush's wars.

According to MSN: The income threshold covers more than 99% of all households exceeding Obama's claim according to the Tax Policy Center.

(Of course, we can thank Republicans for that.)

However, the increase in payroll taxes will hit nearly every wage earner.

(But perhaps a little good news...)

Obama and Congress reduced the share of Social Security paid by workers from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent for 2011 and 2012 saving a typical family about $1,000 a year.

(In other words, the government can give and the government can take away. And does that mean the Social Security savings in 2011 and 2012 will continue in 2013 and that we should be grateful for anything they let us keep?)

Maybe things have changed with my husband's company now that a deal was struck. But employees were sent a memo last week stating both federal income and social security taxes would increase this year to the tune of $120 a month.

Maybe you have $120 a month you don't need, but some of us would rather keep it.

The wars were once the Democrats wars too - before they became weasels.

They're Obama's wars now. What could you possibly be thinking, Homer? That the past four years of wars which have no end in sight are cost free?

It's the grotesque wasteful spending in government that's the problem.

Say that out loud at least three times a day for the next four years.

Thanks in large part to a law signed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R), which cut early voting opportunities in that state, many Florida voters endured six hour lines simply to cast a ballot. These lines did not wind up costing Obama Florida’s electoral votes, but, according to an Ohio State University study, they reduced the president’s margin of victory by thousands of votes in Central Florida.

This suggests that Obama’s margin over Romney in Florida could have been roughly 11,000 votes higher than it was, based just on Central Florida results. Obama carried the state by 74,309 votes out of more than 8.4 million cast.
