Yep, another right whiner who wants to arm potential child killers with assault rifles & 8 gazillion shot clips &, as protection, want to put a guy with a handgun to stop them.

then try a different sales pitch.....

Since Newtown school shootings, sales of kids’ bulletproof backpacks soar

“We never wanted to be in the spotlight for kids’ body armor,” Williams said.“There’s a criticism that we’re capitalizing on the tragedy. That isn’t true.”

But some school safety experts disagree, saying that Amendment II and companies like it profit from parents’ fear — and sow another kind of danger.

The backpacks distract parents from other concerns, such as whether their children’s school has an up-to-date safety plan and how often teachers receive safety training, said Kenneth Trump, a school security consultant. They also demonstrate what he calls a fundamental “misunderstanding of how kids and schools work.” Students don’t carry their backpacks for most of the day, and in the event of a scary, split-second disaster, a child is unlikely to “deflect bullets” with a bag, Trump said.

Studies have shown that highly visible efforts to increase school safety, such as cameras and armed guards, decrease students’ feelings of security, said Eric Rossen, a clinical psychologist and administrator at the National Association of School Psychologists. That’s another risk with bulletproof backpacks, he said. Children who don’t feel safe also don’t feel connected or understood, ultimately undermining their ability to learn and to form trusting relationships, he said.

“Despite our intuition at times like these, schools remain one of the safest places for children in America,” Rossen said.“So statistically, the psychological costs outweigh any potential benefit,” he added, referring to bulletproof backpacks and other such efforts.

Regardless of whether manufacturers are peddling protection, as they say, or distraction, as school experts do, it does appear that backpack manufacturers benefit from fear. Trump says he has heard of the backpacks before — they typically bubble up after school shootings.

BulletBlocker promoted its backpacks on Facebook after the movie theater shootings in Aurora, Colo., in July, writing,“Crazies don’t shoot people because of BulletBlocker.com .. . . BulletBlocker exists because of crazies!”

For some people with a connection to the Sandy Hook shootings, none of this sits well.

Wayne LaPierre Speech Was A Total Public Relations Disaster, Say PR Experts

Public relations experts who have experience working with the gun industry expressed horror on Friday afternoon at the National Rifle Association's response to the Newtown, Conn., shootings.

The group's executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, struck a scolding tone on Friday, blaming the video game industry and media for exposing youth to a culture of violence, and calling for armed police or security guards in schools: "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," LaPierre said.

Public relations professionals reached by The Huffington Post said the timing of his message, which broke a week of silence in the wake of the tragic murder of 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School, could be an irredeemable mistake for the group.

“It was worse than if the NRA had not spoken at all,” said Gene Grabowski, executive vice president of Levick Strategic Communications, a Washington, D.C.-based issues management firm that has worked with firearms manufacturers. "The same message about the culture in another time and place might have made sense, but in context of tragedy, it seemed mean-spirited, cold and misguided."

Grabowski also said the NRA made a mistake by remaining silent on its social media channels last week. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, the organization stopped activity on all of its Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts.

The NRA is under close scrutiny this week as the Sandy Hook shooting renews the political and social debate over gun-control laws. The organization is one of the nation's most powerful lobby groups, but its extreme policy positions don't jibe with all gun owners, many of whom support tighter gun-control laws, according to a survey from a prominent Republican pollster in July.

"They have come out too aggressively," said Jonathan Bernstein, president of Los Angeles-based Bernstein Crisis Management. "[I'm] not even sure they have listened to their own members."

To the contrary. Under the Patriot Act, President Obama can suspend the 2nd Amendment by executive order as a matter of national security. You can thank your hero George Bush for that.

There was a civil war fought over that remember.
But the fact remains, in all the wars including the civil war,ww1, ww2, korea, vietnam, the middle east. Americans dying of gun related deaths out number the total of all those conflicts. That would suggest there is a huge problem, or civilisation has broken down completely.
There has never been a war fought over slavery , statws rights yes but not slavery .

Handgun crime 'up' In UK despite ban
A new study suggests the use of handguns in crime rose by 40% in the two years after the weapons were banned. The research, commissioned by the Countryside Alliance's Campaign for Shooting, has concluded that existing laws are targeting legitimate users of firearms rather than criminals. The ban on ownership of handguns was introduced in 1997 as a result of the Dunblane massacre, when Thomas Hamilton opened fire at a primary school leaving 16 children and their teacher dead.
But the report suggests that despite the restrictions on ownership the use of handguns in crime is rising. The Centre for Defence Studies at Kings College in London, which carried out the research, said the number of crimes in which a handgun was reported increased from 2,648 in 1997/98 to 3,685 in 1999/2000. It also said there was no link between high levels of gun crime and areas where there were still high levels of lawful gun possession.
Of the 20 police areas with the lowest number of legally held firearms, 10 had an above average level of gun crime. And of the 20 police areas with the highest levels of legally held guns only two had armed crime levels above the average.
Smuggling
The campaign's director, David Bredin, said: "It is crystal clear from the research that the existing gun laws do not lead to crime reduction and a safer place.
"Policy makers have targeted the legitimate sporting and farming communities with ever-tighter laws but the research clearly demonstrates that it is illegal guns which are the real threat to public safety."
He said the rise was largely down to successful smuggling of illegal guns into the country.
Weapons have even been disguised as key rings no larger than a matchbox to get them in, he said.
Other sources of guns include battlefield trophies brought back by soldiers, the illegal conversion of replica firearms including blank firing pistols and the reactivation of weapons which had been deactivated.
Ammunition
Examples of illegally manufactured guns include screwdrivers being adapted to fire off one round, he said.
The Metropolitan Police said its official figures showed a 20% drop in armed robberies of commercial premises between April and July this year, compared with the same period last year.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said that, since April 2001, the Flying Squad has arrested 39 people in connection with 34 armed incidents and seized 52 weapons.
Operation Trident, which investigates "black on black" shootings in the UK, has made more than 300 arrests, recovered 100 firearms and 1,500 rounds of ammunition since it was established a year ago.
The Home Office said measures were being taken to tackle handgun crime, including an intensified effort against illegally smuggled weapons.

The stories you are posting are from 12 years ago. Gun crime did increase immediately after the gun ban but has decreased substantially in recent years. Like any new idea, the gun ban took time to begin working. Today gun crime in England is practically non-existent. As far as your Operation Trident story goes, 100 guns and 1500 rounds of ammo is practically nothing. Many NRA gun nuts in America have more guns than that. Nice try though.

Earlier this evening, I drove to town for groceries. As I pulled my car into the parking space, I saw a bumper sticker ahead of me saying "Don't like Liberals? Don't listen to the Media". I agreed and smiled to myself. It is comforting to occasionally find yourself in sociopolitical agreement with a stranger. I later stowed the groceries in the trunk and then decided to stop off for a Dairy Queen hamburger. I pulled into the Drive-Thru lane and lo and behold: the car ahead of me also had a bumper sticker. It said "I Don't Listen To Liberal Media". That's TWO inside of an hour!
But it got even more interesting. As I drove home, I turned on the radio to catch some news on NPR. There was a host interviewing two reporters. One was from the NY Times(of course) and the other was, I think, from the Chicago Tribune. Both reporters were lambasting the House Republicans. They both said that Conservatives have lost all definition of "compromise" and said that Obama has been bending over backward to meet them half-way. The NPR host agreed with them. I began screaming at the radio. These three Fellows In Fellatio then began discussing Susan Rice and just what a wonderful choice she would have made for SOS but, again, the Republicans don't understand compromise. They then noted that other Obama choices were afraid that they would become "Riced". The NPR host giggled and said "I like that. Got Riced!". He began using that expression further into their discussion. The MSM has completely dispensed with any pretense regarding their Leftist politics and intentions. And yet, if you call them on it, they instantly raise their hackles and start promoting their image of neutrality. Sickening.
In one short evening, I had witnessed the growing awareness that the common people around me have of Liberal Media's daily propaganda broadcasts. And then, as I drive home, I am exposed to it in all of it's vomiting glory.
The House is acting like it should and I am supporting their efforts like I should.
The bipartisan agreement between both Democrats and the Republicans that Obama claims won't agree on anything was, if Congress can't generate a sane plan for government, then automatic cuts and taxes will be enacted.
Well, the Democrats are getting what they agreed to. And, now, as usual they don't want to be held to what they agreed to.
Let the fiscal cliff come. The only intent of the Democrats is to prevent as much of the population from feeling the effects of the insanity of our government as possible, at the expense of the other half of the country paying all the income taxes for the entire country.
Let the fiscal cliff happen.
And, no more debt. Not for any reason.

Well, then you should be able to join in the lottery. The over/under for the number of murders in Chicago over the Christmas weekend is 20, the same as the number of children killed in Connecticutt. As far as the ahoes here who insist armed guards in schools can protect ou kids, there's this:

Columbine High School Had Armed Guards During Massacre In 1999

""But having armed security on-site failed to prevent the deadliest mass shooting at an American high school.

In 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 15 people and wounded 23 more at Columbine High School. The destruction occurred despite the fact that there was an armed security officer at the school and another one nearby -- exactly what LaPierre argued on Friday was the answer to stopping "a bad guy with a gun."

Deputy Neil Gardner was a 15-year veteran of the Jefferson County, Colo., Sheriff’s Office assigned as the uniformed officer at Columbine. According to an account compiled by the police department, Gardner fired on Harris but was unsuccessful in stopping him:

Gardner, seeing Harris working with his gun, leaned over the top of the car and fired four shots. He was 60 yards from the gunman. Harris spun hard to the right and Gardner momentarily thought he had hit him. Seconds later, Harris began shooting again at the deputy.
After the exchange of gunfire, Harris ran back into the building. Gardner was able to get on the police radio and called for assistance from other Sheriff’s units. "Shots in the building. I need someone in the south lot with me."

The second officer was Deputy Paul Smoker, a motorcycle patrolman who was near the school writing a speeding ticket. When he heard a dispatch of a woman injured at the high school, he responded. He, too, fired at Harris but didn't stop him.""

----------

So much for the myth of the 'protector' with a gun.

The Anti-Plan B GOP: They Only Look Crazy

Rationality is the ability to bring means into alignment with ends.

Let's suppose for a moment that the two dozen Republicans who rejected Speaker Boehner's Plan B are rational. What do their chosen means tell us about their desired ends?

Is the end: "Defeat the Obama tax increases"? No, that can't be it. The rejection of Plan B means that taxes will go up more than if Plan B had somehow become law.

Is the end a more modest: "Protect Republicans from blame for the Obama tax increases?" No, that's not it either. Protection of the party from blame was precisely John Boehner's goal in devising Plan B. Plan B was never intended as a serious budget proposal. Plan B was intended only as a PR insurance policy if the country went over the fiscal cliff. Republicans could then say: "See we were prepared to tax millionaires if need be."

The defeat of Plan B leaves Republicans - all Republicans utterly defenseless against the onslaught to come.

Here's what happens now.

1) President Obama goes on holiday.

2) December 31 arrives.

3) Taxes go up on everybody. Unemployment insurance ends. Sequester begins to go into effect.

4) Screams, howls.

5) President Obama returns to Washington, speaks to country from Oval Office or else summons special session, unveils the "Obama Tax Cut and Job Creation plan" featuring a whacking big tax cut for 98% of Americans.

6) Plan polls at 70% or better.

7) Republicans resist.

8) Republicans surrender.

9) Economy recovers, "morning in America," Obama basks in glory in 2nd term.

That's what those Republicans voted for when they rejected Plan B.

Eric Harris and Dylan KleboldFrom Wikipedia, the free Senior year Eric David Harris (April 9, 1981 – April 20, 1999) and Dylan Bennet Klebold (September 11, 1981 – April 20, 1999) were the two American high school seniors who committed the Columbine High School massacre. The pair killed 13 people and injured 24 others, three of whom were injured as they escaped the attack.[1] The two then committed suicide in the library, where they had killed 10 of their victims.
Harris mentioned the murder-themed film Natural Born Killers in his journal, referring to the "holy April morning of NBK".[2] "NBK" was used as a code name for the attack by both, who were great fans of the film.
