The U.S. Department of Homeland Security should classify the NRA for what it really is. A terrorist organization. A terrorist organization whose members often advocate the overthrow of the U.S. Government. A terrorist organization whose members often advocate the assassination of the U.S. President. A terrorist organization whose members possess many illegal unregistered firearms. A terrorist organization whose members commit gun crimes on a regular basis. The NRA is a terrorist organization that should be regarded in the same light as Al Qaeda. Many more people have been murdered in America by NRA gun nuts than by all the Islamic terrorists combined.

because in your world children don't have any rights after they're born.

and now with the right wing push to try to keep college students from voting it seems you have to be a least 22 years old before you have any 'rights'. that would also seem to cover right wing azz when we have a shooting at a college.

The American Conservative Union....

Conservative Confusion

Within the so-called American conservative movement intellectual and political confusion are today rampant. Hence the following attempt to sort out what is what.

First of all, a conservative is acutely aware of the flawed nature of man. The capacity of human reason is limited. Our existence is ultimately a great mystery. Conservatives recognize that for these reasons we need the best of the human heritage to help guide us.

The Jacobin suffers from no such humility. Who needs history when there are universal principles that are also self-evident? It’s all so clear. Traditions are but historical accidents, props for old elites that should be replaced by the enlightened and virtuous, people like him. Leo Strauss and his disciples have taught us to disdain “the ancestral” and heed only principles of reason.

Conservatives and Jacobins differ profoundly on what ultimately commands our loyalty. Conservatives stand in awe of a higher power. The ancient Greeks spoke of it as the good, the true and the beautiful. Others refer to it as the will of God. This higher reality is, in any case, not some ideological blueprint. To feel obligated to look for and to do the right thing is not the same as to know just what it is in particular circumstances. The complexity and unpredictability of life disincline the conservatives to sweeping, categorical assertions.

The Jacobin is a true believer. He has access to universal principles, you see, and they demand “moral clarity.” You are either for his principles, which makes you virtuous, or you are against them, which makes you evil. It’s all so clear.

To have unquestioning faith in one’s own moral superiority is for Christians the cardinal sin. Only a profoundly conceited person could think that for another to oppose him is by definition morally perverse.

But the Jacobin assumes a right to have his way. Behind his moralism hides a desire to dominate. The hesitation or trepidation that may trouble men of conscience do not deter him. The will to power silences all doubt.

For the conservative, the universal imperative that binds human beings does not announce its purpose in simple, declaratory statements.

http://conservative.org/battleline/conservati...

Only a major intellectual or moral flaw in American conservatism could have made so many susceptible to the neo-Jacobin bug. Many who caught it were myopically preoccupied with practical politics and Republican partisanship. They lacked historical perspective and philosophical discernment. Others dimly recognized what was happening but went along to reap financial rewards and advance careers. They concealed almost from themselves that they had become hired guns advocating the positions expected of them. Both groups made alliances that will prove compromising. Historians will wonder how so many could have been so easily swayed and manipulated.

Today the utopianism, recklessness, cynicism and sheer incompetence of the neo-Jacobins are becoming obvious. Many of their fellow-travelers are trying to save what remains of their reputations by jumping ship. Intellectually challenged supernationalists just raise their voices and call critics unpatriotic. As for the neo-Jacobins themselves, they are blameless. It is those who implemented their policies who should be blamed. They didn’t do it right.

The neo-Jacobin virus should have been flushed out long ago.

How does the Second Amendment read, I'll state it verbatum, because it has to be taken as it reads, not as you... would interpret same. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. That morning, 37-year-old former janitor Mamoru Takuma entered the school armed with a kitchen knife and began stabbing numerous school children and teachers. He killed eight children, mostly between the ages of seven and eight, and seriously wounded thirteen other children and two teachers.

Trying to burn the school down would have been a miserable failure. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris first attempted to bomb Columbine with propane bottles. A small fire ensued and was quickly dispatched by the building's sprinkler system. Only after that attempt failed did the go on their shooting rampage. Guns are the weapon of choice for American mass killers.

I don't care about your opinion.
It doesn't alarm you that children are becoming more violent and hateful and the intensity of the hatred is increasing and the violence more frequent?

It doesn't shock you that adults are becoming more like children calling each other names and pointing fingers at each other because they disagree?

Before the 1970s, we didn't have these kinds of problems. There has to be some reason why.

The lack of civility and common decency seemed to decline after the 1970s; coincidentally, around the same time we stopped respecting human life.

It began to decline when we stopped caring about children and bad parents dictated to school administrators that discipline didn't apply to their children and everyone stopped growing a spine because of the threat of lawsuits.

It grew when we threw something greater than ourselves out of the equation that once used to guide and direct the consciences of a self-governing and free society.

The frequency of gang violence, bullying, child suicides, child murderers has increased to almost epidemic proportions at the same time adults became increasingly more concerned about political correctness than intervening to be good role models.

Do you remember a time when these kinds of problems were virtually unheard of? Or at least the same magnitude?

What happened in the past two and a half to three decades that created this kind of environment for this generation?

There has to be a reason.

But we have definitely lost our way. It can't be denied.

True that - believing propaganda is mindless. Are you referring to Chrysler sending Jeep production to China or that Obama is a Muslim who was born in Kenya? Maybe you are talking about the dinosaurs being wiped out by Noah's flood? Or could it be you are thinking that the second amendment didn't become a "transient cause" when the US abandoned the civilian soldier militias and created the standing army and navy of military regulars?

Today's children are more violent and hateful because of their lack of respect of authority and their elected officials. The constant bashing of President Obama and other elected leaders by right-wing hate radio is a major factor in the increase in violence and hate in today's children. Is it a coincidence that these events started occurring soon after Russ Limbaugh began broadcasting his hate-speech? I don't think it's any coincidence at all.

One picture shows Ashlyn in her Christmas dress, hair neatly coifed, with a swollen lip, missing teeth, puffy eye and athletic tape wrapped around her hands to protect them. She smiles like a little boxer who won a prize bout.

Her first serious injury came at age 3, when she laid her hand on a hot pressure washer in the back yard. Ashlyn’s mother found her staring at her red, blistered palm.

“That was a real reality check for me. At that point I realized we’re not going to be able to stop all the bad stuff,” Tara Blocker says.

“She needs a normal life, with limitations.”

So when Ashlyn goes to her kindergarten class at Patterson Elementary School, she gets daily check-ups with school nurse after recess. Cloud and Ashlyn’s mother discussed having her wear a helmet on the playground, but decided it would look too odd....

We are just becoming a meaner society.

From elected leaders accusing others of wanting people to die and labeling entire segments of the population racists to policemen using taser guns as a first resort instead of the last and exercising excessive force when unnecessary and everything else in between.

It has created an environment of resentment and tension and mean-spiritedness.

We have to at least try to get along and become better role models.

We have to at least try to be a kinder, gentler and more forgiving society.

Losing Our Sense of Common Decency

Something precious is being squandered in the rough and tumble of this political season -- a shocking decline in respect for the values that made this country a symbol of freedom and decency. After years of progress in the area of civility and civil rights voter angst in a time of economic trauma has become an excuse for virulent, racially-charged campaigns. Suddenly it is acceptable to air long-repressed hostility that had been frowned upon as the country moved to moderate an ugly, divisive past.

Tea Partiers say they want to take the country back, a rallying cry without substance except as an expression of anti-government fervor even though, in many cases, protesters are the beneficiaries of federal programs like Medicare and Social Security. They feel oppressed, over-taxed, and under-appreciated. And they tend to support candidates in spite of their dubious qualifications because those deficits are a better fit with their own self image and distance them from people they disparage as political elites. Gaining an advantage is the game; no rules of conduct need apply in attaining that goal.

What this has come to mean is that Tea-Party and right-wing supported candidates have won Republican primaries despite obvious failings and a lack of preparedness to govern effectively. But anger and dissatisfaction aren’t credentials for holding office, and the brickbats aimed at the president and various incumbents exhibit an unprecedented level of disrespect that cheapens the national debate. Political, upstart Ben Quayle for example, running for the House from Arizona had the temerity to call Obama the “worst president” ever, as if he actually had the bona fides to make such an assessment.

In general the current crop of candidates is a sub-standard lot of people who talk values but trash what’s best about our culture and turn free speech into slurs that signal a return to the dark days when racial epithets and low-minded innuendo were common in the public forum.
