You are stating the ideal but ignoring the reality. Today, Unions are simply political operatives for the Left. As long as they keep the worker out of the loop and clueless, they can easily pursue their political desires as a Fifth Column for the likes of the Boy Messiah. MSM stands shoulder-to-shoulder with them, too.<quoted text>
There are costs in negotiating and enforcing a contract. Ensuring a safe working environment and lobbying for remedies to work related problems takes time and money. Protecting against management abuses of power such as nepotism and favoritism requires oversight. No reasonable person believes that each individual is better off bearing the burden of these tasks themselves.
Don't fool yourself, non-union workplaces use models developed through union efforts and non-union workplaces also benefit from the competitive salaries generated by union contracts.
Its naive to say unions have outlived their usefulness.
What has changed here, is that the workers are wising up and want a choice. The Socialists are fighting this and want to keep union "members" in the dark and off the screen. Just keep paying those monthly dues, though.
Yes, unions have outlived their original mandate and have drifted off into pursuits of Socialism. Americans are weary of this. Almost half of America now supports RTW laws to clean up the Jimmy Hoffa legacy and get politics out of the workplace.
