"Fair" would be everyone paying the same dollar amount.<quoted text>
As Bill Clinton would say "Do the math" Tax rates are designed so the whole population is taxed fairly. Check out any cilvilised country and see. They are within one or two percentage points in their tax rates. So it might be 20% up until $50k then anything over $50k goes to 30% etc. But it is NEVER measured in quantity like fox news measures it and you tea ppl. It is ALWAYS measured on percentage of income. So if a Walmart guy pays 20% of his or her income in tax then DO NOT try and convince me, that Mitt & his mates are doing the country proud by only paying 12% for what they earn.
I doesn't matter in the least even if Mitt pays $2-3 mill in tax and the Walmart guy only pays $10k total if he is not paying the percentage that is eqivalent to his earnings then the country is being ripped off.
Slightly less fair would be everyone paying the same percentage.
But a small number of people paying all the taxes while half the people are freeloaders is grossly unfair.
But then, "fair" is purely in the eye of the beholder and everybody has their own definition.
And your opinion is just one of many.
