The CEO Bankruptcy Bonus
Firms Sidestep Rule Limiting Rewards for Executives
.....in the past few years, some corporations have found perfectly legal ways to escape federal strictures on bonus pay during bankruptcy cases.
Companies now craft "incentive" plans—rewards that put their compensation programs outside the 2005 law's purview. These plans pay executives if they hit certain performance targets, including exiting bankruptcy protection quickly.
The Justice Department often objects to these plans, as do labor unions angered by the juxtaposition of bonuses for executives with cuts to rank-and-file jobs and benefits.

Just to be clear, the Medicare drug benefit was a pure giveaway with a gross cost greater than either the House or Senate health reform bills how being considered. Together the new bills would cost roughly $900 billion over the next 10 years, while Medicare Part D will cost $1 trillion.

Moreover, there is a critical distinction--the drug benefit had no dedicated financing, no offsets and no revenue-raisers; 100% of the cost simply added to the federal budget deficit, whereas the health reform measures now being debated will be paid for with a combination of spending cuts and tax increases, adding nothing to the deficit over the next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Recall the situation in 2003. The Bush administration was already projecting the largest deficit in American history--$475 billion in fiscal year 2004, according to the July 2003 mid-session budget review. But a big election was coming up that Bush and his party were desperately fearful of losing. So they decided to win it by buying the votes of America's seniors by giving them an expensive new program to pay for their prescription drugs.

Republicans, welcome to the reality-based community

Defeat has shattered the US right's impenetrable front on tax and healthcare. The party's pragmatists are finding their voice

"If you beat your head against the wall," the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci once wrote, "it is your head that breaks, not the wall."

On election night Morris's head exploded, leaving shards of baseless braggadocio scattered across cyberspace. Reality will do that, sooner or later. For Republicans it has been later. For some time now they have been bingeing on everything from climate change denial to creationism. But in the last four years they outdid themselves with birtherism and death panels, insisting Obama was a Kenyan imposter imposing European values. Believing they were entitled to their own facts, they started to believe their own spin. Morris was merely the most bullish illustration of a broader derangement. The rot went all the way to the top. On election night Romney had $25,000-worth of fireworks all ready to launch on the Boston Harbor and a transition team of 200 waiting in the wings.

Finally it appears defeat has sobered some of them up, forcing a rift between those willing to engage with the world as it is and others who prefer dystopian visions, woven from whole cloth. Over the past few years Republicans presented a united, impenetrable front guided by the latter. Now the party's pragmatists, who laid low for fear of Tea Party retribution, seem to be slowly finding their voice.

Again these terms are negotiated at the time of hire for CEO's and the like. Want the same perks? Get an education and earn it. Or you can continue to man the fryer at McDonalds. Your choice

Your inference sounds much like those who show up on this thread after they've watched the millionaire talking heads on FOX act like a higher taxes on the rich is problem we should all be concerned about.

Because you evidently must be one of those same kind of hypocrites. So how did you make you first million? Maybe that college degree from a high priced Ive League college did the trick? Or did your daddy buy you a degree?

want some help with that one leg you're standing on before it gets knocked out from under you?

Does that 'offer' fall within the conservative citation of 'everybody knows'?

Not one of you has yet to direct me to the everybody knows site. But than even the nutjobs know better then to cite FOX.
