Alloramadai wrote: <quoted text> Carol, I'm in the medical field and I use to smoke. Our hospital campus went smoke free several years ago. We, the employees, were not allowed to smoke anywhere near the campus. If we were witnessed smoking while on duty, we were subject to termination. If a coworker suspected someone of smoking, they were encouraged to turn the offender in. We were given plenty of advance notice that this change was coming and there were solutions provided to quit smoking. However, patients and their family members could continue to smoke wherever they wanted to on hospital grounds. We, the employees, were not suppose to speak with them about smoking. Security officers could approach them and advise them of the campus no smoking policy; however, if they decided to continue to smoke the subject was to be dropped. I did not understand the reasoning behind this at all. I have kind of quit smoking; I now use an electronic cigarette and have cut down on the nicotine to almost nil. I miss the act of smoking, but not the side effects like the smell, shortness of breath, cost. I'm finally back to running for enjoyment again. It is a free country and if you can afford the habit, go for it. Pollution - noise, trash, second hand smoke - affects everyone. I sense you are respectful in that regard. I absolutely appreciate your argument. When I quit smoking years ago, I couldn't stand to be around cigarette smoke and wondered why I or anyone ever took up the habit. But do you even realize the profundity of what you posted? "We, the employees, were not allowed to smoke anywhere near the campus. If we were witnessed smoking while on duty, we were subject to termination. If a coworker suspected someone of smoking, they were encouraged to turn the offender in." This doesn't sound eerily like Orwell's "Big Brother" to you? "Not allowed"..."witnesse d smoking"..."subject to termination"..."turn the offender in". It sure does to me.

Nevermind narcotic and alcohol abusers or the consequences of both. can't take away rights from a sentient being, which a blastocysts, zygote, embryo, fetus is not. if smoking only affected the smoker, then I would be against the effort to stop public smoking....however it doesn/t. It has detrimental health affects on others...ergo your right to smoke ended when it affects my health narcotic/alcohol users only affect their body

WHY, YES, I HAVE CAROL, AS A MATTER OF FACT...TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT (ESPECIALLY WHEN WORKING HAND IN HAND WITH YOUR GAWD)... INFINITE REALLY. SOMEHOW, THOUGH, LIKE MUCH OF MY WORK, IT NEVER GETS OLD. SO PINK, SO SQUISHY, SO TENDER ... LIKE YOUR HIND END, BUT THANKFULLY, NEVER DESTINED TO LEARN TO TYPE ... LOVE, j/d (I see we're off the topic of death by smoke, and unto death by scissors to the back of the skull. You're nothing if not a cheerful martyr, Carol ...)
