Just as a matter of curiosity, what skills do these bakery workers possess that someone off the street could not learn in a few days?
And they are not working...they are on strike, which is why the company shut down.
By the way, the Teamsters agreed to the pay cuts.
I can tell you never ran a company that made a product.

There is likely expensive equipment to operate and product quality responsibility.

Me, I would want experienced people doing those things. You would stop by 7-11 & hire day laborers.

When I first began teaching in the 1980s, my salary was around $28,000 a year. It would be more today, but many college degree entry levels today start out at $35,000.

The pay in my line of work now is based on production and is equivalent to $15 to $16 an hour. It doesn't require a college degree - just certification and training.

If Obama wants higher tax rates, what is he willing to trade in return?
Is no different than Boehner saying raising tax rates is off the table.

<quoted text>I don't argue that it's 'uncommon', carol, I argue that it doesn't make good fiscal sense. If the company isn't doing well in sales, maintaining a losing sales strategy isn't very smart. The idiots in management couldn't find their Twinkies with both hands in their pockets, and they deserve a 300% raise, while the grunts following management's prescription for failure have to take pay cut after pay cut, and watch their contracted retirement disappear?
That's not 'smart' carol. That's rewarding incompetence and greed.
The company was struggling for years. The number of times it changed management was a good indicator employees should have either taken what they could get or quit and found another job. They didn't need a union helping them lose their jobs for them.

There's another funny but true relationship between condoms and Republicans.
The Republican party just doesn't understand that people that cannot afford contraception are not going to stop having sex. Guess who is going to pay to support these unwanted babies? Guess who these babies are going to vote for when they grow up. These right wingers really are clueless.

If you can't afford contraception you must be homeless and living under a bridge. You can get birth control pills for $9 a month in Target in Georgetown, home of Georgetown University where law graduates average $135,000 their first year out of school. In addition there are hundreds of clinics nationwide that dispense free birth control to people that can't afford it.

"The RNC announced it’s changing the emblem of the Republican Party – from an elephant to a condom. RNC chairman Reince Priebus explained that the condom more clearly reflects the Party’s current stance owing to the fact that a condom accepts inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you’re actually being screwed.

"Democrats announced today that they are changing their emblem from a donkey to a condom because it more clearly reflects their party's political stance. A condom stands up to inflation, halts production, discourages cooperation, protects a bunch of dicks, and gives one a sense of security while screwing others."

You want facts, look up Paul Ryan's voting record.
The Club for Growth, a right wing group, pegged Ryan as a big spender & big government man.
Those be facts, sonny. Facts you obviously had no clue existed else you would be wacking off to Paul Ryan.
Paul Ryan voted to take us off the path of balanced budgets under Bush.

To a point. Some positions don't warrant endless raises. When experience and excellence run out, it's time to move on. The best you can hope for then, is a good recommendation.

There is an expectation of merit pay increases, but only an expectation.

Cost of living increases are largely for menial jobs.

1) No one is trying to do as you say so your question is asinine.
2) Sometime social programs are best for this country like social security & medicare.
3) There are issues best handled by the federal government.
4) To run screaming thru the streets " socialism" Communism" every time a Democrat gets elected or running for President just proves you are an idiot.
If a private corporation tried to implement a scam like Social Security they would be charged with a felony. It's nothing more than a government scheme to get their hands on more of everybody's money.
