The Misguided Search for “Natural Conservatives”

....It’s almost as ridiculous to make arguments that younger voters ought to vote Republican because youth is “all about rebellion and freedom and independence—things the Democratic Party preaches but doesn’t deliver.” Naturally, when one thinks of the contemporary GOP, rebellion and freedom are the first words to come to mind, aren’t they? The person making that argument hasn’t taken much time to consider why younger voters might recoil from a party that had a disastrous record at the same time that they came of age politically. If an age cohort started paying attention to politics for the first time at almost any point over the last twelve years, it shouldn’t be surprising that they wouldn’t be drawn to the party that presided over the debacle of the Iraq war, the start of a major recession, and the beginning of the financial crisis.

On a related note, to the extent that younger voters are interested in “freedom and independence,” what did the GOP leadership have to offer them in the last decade? Nothing. If party leaders had nothing to offer these voters, is it any wonder that most younger voters continue to hold the party’s disastrous Bush-era record against it? For many of these voters, the Bush era is all that they know of Republican governance, and they are understandably unwilling to support a party that seems to have learned little or nothing from that experience.

Did he create welfare?
Did he create food stamps?
Did he create the free phone program?
Did he create unemployment compensation?
Did he create Medicaid?
Did he create the recession that threw millions out pf work?
If you think the answer to any of the above us yes,. then you are dumber than I thought.
The truth, not that you know what that means, is that the recession drove unemployment to 10.2%.
Obama has brought that down & in the process created millions of jobs.
How is that creating victims?

Preemies can survive after being born quite premature.

In fact, a preemie born after just under 22 weeks in the womb survived.

Take a look at that baby. Looks exactly like a child to me.

Parital birth abortion is killing a 9 month gestation baby in the process of being born. It actually IS a child.

You condone this?

You do realize that late term abortions are only legal when the health of the mother is at risk, Right???
My God, you are running in circles screaming how these women are rushing to the abortion clinic & having a doctor yank their babies part way out & stabbing them with scissors.
My God, Carol, you really need to get some professional help.
You miss the point. Obama did not vote to pass a ban on partial birth abortions while in the Illinois Senate. He was one of only a few who voted present instead.

Which is tantamount to voting "no".

He also made a statement on the Illinois Senate floor essentially saying the Born Alive Act would put the mother's decision to have an abortion in question if a baby born alive received medical attention.

He voted present on this vote as well.

My Take: When evangelicals were pro-choice

By Jonathan Dudley, Special to CNN

Over the course of the 2012 election season, evangelical politicians have put their community’s hard-line opposition to abortion on dramatic display.

Missouri Rep. Todd Akin claimed “legitimate rape” doesn’t result in pregnancy. Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock insisted that “even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”

While these statements have understandably provoked outrage, they’ve also reinforced a false assumption, shared by liberals and conservatives alike: that uncompromising opposition to abortion is a timeless feature of evangelical Christianity.

The reality is that what conservative Christians now say is the Bible’s clear teaching on the matter was not a widespread interpretation until the late 20th century.

If the U.S. government ends up careening off the "fiscal cliff," Republicans in Congress stand to shoulder most of the blame, according to a new poll released Tuesday.

Fifty-three percent of Americans said Republicans in Congress would be more to blame in that instance, according to a Pew Research Center poll conducted in the days following the election.

...of course, what else is new? This is why House Republicans must give Obama everything he wants. Hand him the reins and stand back.

Lord, please, please, please let that happen.

The person who wrote this and I are on the same wavelength:

Dear Republican Congress-

As a conservative Republican I am begging you to give President Obama and those that voted for him everything they want.

They want higher taxes on the rich and companies, give it to them.

They want higher capital gains taxes that will hurt their investments, give it to them.

They want a system that will make Medicare insolvent in 2024 and Social security insolvent soon after that, give it to them.

They want policies that will lead to constant double digit unemployment for minorities and young people, give it to them.

They want an educational system that entraps the poor in failing schools, give it to them.

They want higher energy prices, give it to them.

They want to spend trillions fighting global warming while China and India continue to tap oil and coal, give it to them.

They want $20 trillion plus in debt, give it to them.

They want the Obamacare penalties to kick in next year, give it to them.

They want a larger more powerful Washington DC, give it to them.

They want a more secular society that is more hostile towards religion, give it to them.

They want a more “fair” society run by bureaucrats, give it to them.

They want socialist cronyism, give it to them. They want to go down the road of Europe, give it to them.

Give it to them and let’s find out once and for all who is right. If we are right, they will have no one to blame but themselves and maybe we will finally get true change in this country and maybe we will finally get true change in the Republican party and have a real choice in the years to come.

If we are wrong, then so be it. I will gladly repent from my evil conservative ways and become a socialist, I mean Democrat.

Sincerly yours,

Irwin Podhajser
