Romney's off the record remark hurt him, no doubt.

Most of the 47% are victims of government dependency but are still afraid of losing what the government provides as long as there are no jobs. He wasn't talking about Medicare and SS recipients even though they were lumped in with the rest.

It was an unfortunate remark but it was a referral to the percentage he believed would not vote for him. Even though Romney came out immediately and said he was dead wrong, the damage had been done.

There is far too much dependency in this country and it's only going to get worse.

Most Americans should have been able to figure that out in spite of Romney's poor choice of words.

Apparently, most Americans have no problem with the government taking care of them instead of the government getting out of the way so they can find another job.

‘Viewers Ought to Be Outraged’: Frank Luntz Explains Where Pollsters Failed in 2012

Pollster Frank Luntz– one of the many to predict a Romney victory last week– appeared on Fox News Saturday to explain where Republicans took a wrong turn in forecasting voter turnout.

He explained:

“Look– the published polls that the Romney campaign and the Republican establishment were trashing day after day turned out to be accurate. And all the polls that are being done for the Republican establishment– I know that the House candidates who lost were shocked at what happened, the Senate, Republicans were supposed to gain seats they actually lost…

“This is a bad day for Republican pollsters, and it’s something that they should be held accountable for. You have to tell your clients the truth, and you have to be accurate. And to miss so many states and to be this far off, your Fox News viewers ought to be outraged, because day in and day out they were told that Mitt Romney was going to win, and the fact is Ohio was never up, Wisconsin was never up, Pennsylvania was never up…the published polls were correct. Nate Silver was correct. But the Republican establishment polls were wrong.” [Emphasis added]

Luntz then analyzed a Republican Main Street Partnership survey where voters were asked which groups they think Republicans are “most interested in helping.” By and large, the respondents seem to believe Republicans only care about “the wealthy” and “big business.”

“That tells you the communication gulf between what Republicans were saying and what the average American was hearing– hardworking taxpayers and the middle class, half as many people said that as the wealthy and big business– it tells you that the Obama campaign got through the message that the Republicans were out of touch,” Luntz explained.“That the Republicans were defending the groups they didn’t like, and if there was a signal that the messaging wasn’t working, this is it.”

And comparing me to the president of the United States, who also was head of the Harvard law review, and a constitutional scholar is quite the put down. At least from your imbecilic view point.
Are you insinuating that you were 'also' the head of the Harvard Law Review??, or is this just a pitiful example of hero envy? You might be head dick at a circle jerk, but that's about the extent of it.

At this rate it will take 30 years to get us back to pre 2007 levels (memory jog: when dems took control of Congress). Enjoy.

Community Organizer: 1, Brainy Wall Street Financier: Zero

Bethany Mandel at Commentary has a pretty cool account of the breakdown of Romney’s hi-tech Get Out the Vote Operation (Project ORCA) here. The technical details are well worth reading, but the nut of the thing is this:

One of the most successful components of Karl Rove’s GOTV efforts with George W. Bush’s campaigns was his small-government ideological approach. Each volunteer was tasked with personally getting a handful of voters from their area to the polls, voters that they were already familiar with from their church, their children’s schools and their community. Instead of this strategy, Boston was the hub; information was sent there and GOTV assignments were delegated from thousands of miles away by Romney staffers largely unfamiliar with individuals and communities. At Ace of Spades, Ekdahl described the organizational approach of Project ORCA:“The bitter irony of this entire endeavor was that a supposedly small government candidate gutted the local structure of GOTV efforts in favor of a centralized, faceless organization in a far off place (in this case, their Boston headquarters).”

I’m sure we’re going to hear lots more about this. But one likely takeaway is that Mitt Romney is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

Buried October Surprise? Iran Shot at U.S. Drone
The news comes days after Valerie Jarrett was said to be involved in Iran negotiations
Some pretty alarming news broke this afternoon about an American surveillance drone, which was fired upon by Iranian planes. The drone was over international waters in the Persian Gulf when it was targeted, but was not hit.
The shooting, which the Pentagon said occurred Nov. 1 — five days before the American presidential election — was the first known instance of Iranian warplanes firing on an American surveillance drone. George Little, the top Pentagon spokesman, attributed the weeklong official silence on the episode to restrictions on discussing classified surveillance missions.
But the episode — and the official silence about it until Thursday — raised questions about whether the delay had been meant to forestall a controversy before the election.
This comes as well-known tensions remain high between the United States and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program, currently the target of broad international sanctions led by the United States. The incident also comes weeks after an Iranian drone launched by Hezbollah was shot down by Israeli forces after reportedly taking pictures of Israeli bases. Most notably though, this news comes just days after it had been announced that the Shiraz-born Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett had been assisting the United States in its negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. How this incident avoided daylight, despite taking place in range of the Strait of Hormuz–the choke point nearly a fifth of the world’s oil avoided daylight, is pretty stunning. Meanwhile, rumors that Iran and United States were set to engage direct talks made headlines last week.
What else don’t we know about the American strategy vis-à-vis Iran?

Well, it's been two weeks since the disaster in the northeast. Still no power, still no FEMA (they won't even answer the phone and the few FEMA do-nothings that are there aren't allowed to speak to the press) and still no comments from Obama. He has to hold his nose today and place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Maybe he'll call Bloomberg and Cristy after that and ask them how things are going. Probably not though. It's a pretty good day for golf.

Mitt Romney is the president of white male America.
...
In its delusional death spiral, the white male patriarchy was so hard core, so redolent of country clubs and Cadillacs, it made little effort not to alienate women. The election had the largest gender gap in the history of the Gallup poll, with Obama winning the vote of single women by 36 percentage points.
As W.’s former aide Karen Hughes put it in Politico on Friday,“If another Republican man says anything about rape other than it is a horrific, violent crime, I want to personally cut out his tongue.”

From all indications, Boehner is not going to stand in Obama's way. I hope he doesn't. Whatever happens will be your party's baby. If we're going over the cliff, Republicans should get out of the way to be blameless.
It might be what has to happen for America to finally wake up once and for all. We'll pick up the pieces in 2016 when the democrat party is no more if we survive.
Sure Carol, you've been so totally spot on with your predictions so far haven't you? And as usual you changed the subject. The discussion wasn't about the fiscal cliff but the Romney/Ryan tax plan which didn't add up and would further enrich the already wealthy and put additional burdens on the middle class and the poor.
The fiscal cliff belongs to the Republicans. If it wasn't for the Bush tax cuts and two wars, one of them totally unnecessary we wouldn't even be having this conversation. When then Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neal cautioned that the tax cuts would increase the deficit he was told by Dick Cheney that "deficits don't matter".
Americans including Republicans by a two to one margin agree that the wealthiest should be paying more in taxes but Republican's allegiance doesn't belong to them it belongs to a millionaire lobbyist named Grover Norquist.
If we do go over the cliff then the president and Democrats can introduce legislation to cut taxes to the middle class and dare the Republicans to block them. That would be the final death knell for the GOP.
