Fox News Slowly Loses Its Mind Over Election Results

When Fox News called the election for Barack Obama just before 11:30 p.m., it was the culmination of a night-long sigh by the right-wing network, capped off with a climactic hissy fit steeped in denial, courtesy of Karl Rove. The polls didn't look good going into the day, but the channel's well-manicured hosts put on a happy face and crossed their fingers, as they have for weeks now, kicking off Election Night with similar refrains of hope and favorable Internal polling from the Romney campaign, plus predictable mentions of unemployment, Libya, and paths to a win without Ohio. But the excuses started early and then things got weird.

"The white establishment is now the minority," said a resigned-sounding Bill O'Reilly, long before any swing state had been decided. "And the voters, many of them, feel that the economic system is stacked against them and they want stuff."

"The demographics are changing," he added. "It's not a traditional America anymore."

O'Reilly also cited Hurricane Sandy as a reason Romney might possibly, maybe lose the election. "If Obama wins, Sandy will have something to do with it," he predicted. "He got more currency from Sandy than he got negative currency from Libya. That to me is amazing." But O'Reilly did verbalize the elephant in the room: "If Mitt Romney loses Ohio, the president is reelected," he dropped with a thud.

Later, plugging the religious vote, Mike Huckabee wasn't so sure. "Chick-fil-A day was dress rehearsal for today," he said. "I still think Mitt Romney wins when it's all over."

But as the states started to fall — Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota — Romney's path to a win was described as a "tightrope," and the mood soured noticeably. Outright predictions gave way to minute dissections of specific counties as anchors Megyn Kelly and Bret Baier seemed to brace for the inevitable.

And then went Ohio, and with it, the election — and Karl Rove's mind. "We have got to be careful about calling things when we have like 991 votes separating the two candidates and a quarter of the vote yet to count," he said, questioning the network that signs his checks and calling the decision "premature." Kelly quipped, "That's awkward," and then proceeded to march — in an equally awkward scene — away from her desk and into the bowels of the studio to the number-crunching Decision Desk. "We're actually quite comfortable with the call in Ohio," one man said, and you could practically hear Rove's curdled cries in the distance. "There just aren't enough Republican votes left for Mitt Romney to get there," another added.

Live from Chicago, where the Obama crowd was losing it, Ed Henry managed to get in another, though it went tumbling into the abyss: "They're almost nearing pandemonium now," he said, "despite that unemployment is still hovering near 8 percent." It wasn't the end of the network's bitter mix of denial and rationalization for the night, but it might as well have been.

The Republicans lost the Presidency because they thought all voters were as stupid as their base. They tried to blame the effects of the recession on Obama & people knew better.

Now its time for the Republicans in the House to decide whether they will try to continue their obstruction & try to hold us back or actually join in our recovery.

Their Obstruction was a miserable failure.

The American people told the Republicans to shove their social engineering up their ass & do something to help us recover from their disaster of the Bush years.

The Republicans need to discard their Grover Norquist pledges & pledge instead to the people of the Untited States of America,

f*ck Grover Norquist. F*ck the Tea Party. It is time to become real patriots & real Americans & do what it takes to get us back to where we were before Bush f*cked this country.

Hey, I'm happy for Obama, it's hard to go into a job unexperienced and do any kind of good.

He's had four years of on the job training now though-so this time-there's NO EXCUSE for the lousy everything of the past four years.

That Karl Rove business on Fox was priceless. It’s an astonishing thing, that the numbers specialists at Fox called Ohio for Obama, and the on-air talent questioned it. And not just an anchor—an on-air commentator who has also raised and spent many millions of dollars on behalf of Romney. It’s as banana republic as anything that happens in a real banana republican.

I cannot wait to see the mass exodus from California of a majority of the real producers now that they have passed this tax. I should be a good test as to what will happen in this country when Obama attempts the same thing on a national level.

LOS ANGELES – California voters have approved Gov. Jerry Brown's plan to raise income taxes on the wealthy and raise the statewide sales tax to fund K-12 schools and help balance the state budget.
The Proposition 30 vote was close and its passage was not clear until early Wednesday.
Its passage increases the statewide sales tax by a quarter cent for four years, starting in January, while people who make more than $250,000 a year will pay higher taxes for seven years retroactive to the beginning of 2012.

We have a president who ran a small and negative campaign with no record to run on, no plan for the next four years but big on lies and smearing his opponent.

We have a president who does not reach across the aisle, characterizes half the nation as being un-American, encourages his base to vote out of revenge and hides from the press.

We have a president who believes he can spend our way out of an already insurmountable debt, who wants as many people dependent on taxpayers as possible and taking even more of our money come January 1.

We have a president who promised to be more flexible with Russia, who doesn't call radical Islam terrorists and who sees Europe's crumbling social democracy system as the model for this nation.

We have a president who will continue to conquer and divide, who warms up to celebrities and elitists but thinks job makers are the real problem.

The easily fooled and haters voted this president back into office. Because of them, we have turned the corner and are on a path from which we may never recover.

Because of them, we will have four more years of high unemployment, gridlock and, eventually, a third world health system.

Because of them, more manufacturers will leave this country, more hardworking people will lose their incentive to try and do better and more job opportunities will become a thing of the past.

Because of them, I don't recognize my country any longer.

For now, the rest of us can only go on with our lives, hope for the best, expect the worst and try to survive another four years.

I truly believe God has washed his hands of us. Many who reelected this president voted Him out of their party.

We have lost our bearings and, therefore, we cannot expect to be blessed.

So basically I'm done. I'm taking my purse and going home.

But we will reap what we have sown. That's the law of nature mandated by God.

Perhaps it has already begun. We will know soon enough. I hope those on the left will not live to regret what they have done because what they have done will affect us all.

Later.

The Five Stages of GOP Grief

Now it’s time to reveal your character. A loss is tough. Sure you had some forewarning, especially after Rush Limbaugh guaranteed victory. That was when you knew things were bad.“Common sense,” he bellowed,“tells me this election isn’t gonna be close—and it shouldn’t be.” The last guy who was as wrong in a prediction as Rush was when General Custer said “I bet there’s no Sioux over that hill, let’s head over there!”

So in an effort to help, Dr. Paul the campaign psychologist is here to walk you through your five stages of political grief. And don’t worry about paying me. I’ll be reimbursed by Obamacare because a) Obamacare is not going to be repealed; and b) the GOP’s loss was a pre-existing condition.

Stage 1: Denial. Right now, you are denying you lost. Stop. You lost. You really lost. You lost like the Eagles did Monday night against the Saints. And your denials are sadder than Lindsay Lohan’s. The votes weren’t rigged (right-wingers seem to own all the voting machine companies anyway). The media didn’t hand it to Obama; after all, the Number One cable news channel, Fox, is right-wing. The Number One newspaper, the Wall Street Journal, also has a right-wing editorial slant (and is owned by the same guy who owns Fox News). The Number One talk radio show is Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity is Number Two, and Glenn Beck is Number Three. When you control all the largest media outlets, it’s time to stop grousing about liberal media bias.

I know you can’t believe you lost to Obama. Again. I can only imagine how humiliating, how disconcerting it is—especially if you live in the right-wing bubble. It’s bad enough you couldn’t beat the Kenyan-Muslim-Marxist in 2008; this time you couldn’t beat a Kenyan-Muslim-Marxist who’s still digging out from the worst economic collapse of our lifetimes.

....Stage 5: Acceptance. The sooner you get to this the better. The voters rejected you. They’re just not that into you. They’re the pretty cheerleader and you’re the angry Goth kid. They are not going to date you—especially if you keep being so creepy to them. Accept that you had an historic opportunity and you blew it. Accept that in the worst economic environment in nearly a century you still couldn’t do what Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton did in milder recessions: defeat an incumbent president. And accept that you need to change. That’s right, just like in the bad teen movie, you, the angry Goth kid, can become the wholesome all-American teen. Besides, you have a terrific bench. Chris Christie, Mitch Daniels, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Susana Martinez, Brian Sandoval. Maybe you can run one of your Midwestern governors like John Kasich or Scott Walker. Maybe a senator like John Thune—heck, he’s so gorgeous he makes Mitt Romney look like the Elephant Man. Or why not the only Republican candidate who ran in 2008 and who was never in the lead: Jon Huntsman? Huntsman has been a governor, a businessman, an ambassador. He speaks Mandarin and Moderate and could get a ton of Democratic votes.

Or not. You can stay in denial and run in 2016 on a ticket of Rand Paul and Michele Bachmann, and lose to… well, to anybody.
