Back to hurricanes ... All those power outages. Could something have been done reduce the damage done to power stations and lines?

Maybe so...

"Long Power Outages During Storms Like Hurricane Sandy Could Be Prevented"

"... Does the restoration of the mid-Atlantic power grid have to take so achingly long? While the utility companies argued that they're working as hard as they possibly can, several experts said that America's power infrastructure could be more resilient -- even when tested by a once-in-a-century storm.

"The message from Sandy is that it has to be stronger," said James Hoecker, a lawyer who led the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission under President Bill Clinton. Experts suggested various adjustments, such as underground cables, smart grid technology and tree trimming to make future outages end sooner.

Designing above-ground power lines to cope with more of a beating, and hardening critical infrastructure, could help. On the distribution side, most telephone poles and wires are not designed to withstand the 90-mile-per-hour winds that swept through New Jersey on Monday. That, said Otto Lynch, the energy representative for the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Committee on America’s Infrastructure, is a mistake. "

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/01/powe...

Hmmm ... Did any of those 800 billion stimulus dollars go towards "hardening critical infrastructure" of the east coast power grid?

Would that have been a wiser investment of tax-payer dollars than loans to "green companies" that eventually went belly-up?

I don't think we have to guess how all those folks sitting in NY and NJ would answer that question.

BTW ... Does anyone know why the Obama administration hasn't released mandatory stimulus reports for over a year?

"Ahead of Election, Obama Stops Releasing ‘Stimulus’ Reports" Oct 19, 2012 •

"The $831,000,000,000 economic “stimulus” that President Obama spearheaded and signed into law requires his administration to release quarterly reports on its effects. But “the most transparent administration in the history of our country” is now four reports behind schedule and has so far not released any reports whatsoever in 2012. Its most recent quarterly report is for the quarter than ended on June 30, 2011.

One wonders how the administration would treat a private citizen who acted like such a scofflaw in response to one of Obama’s principal legislative initiatives. It certainly appears that this administration, which is so very fond of regulating Americans’ lives — witness the 13,000 pages of Obamacare regulations it has already penned — doesn’t hold itself accountable to the same set of rules that it’s so eager to compel the American people to obey."

Nothing wrong with being on welfare Melvin. It's staying on welfare for generations that's the problem. White, black, or green it's wrong. A twelve year old who has a baby, who has a baby when she is twelve, who has a baby when she is twelve, etc... Skin color has nothing to do with it.

<quoted text>What economic collapse of 08? What 726,000 per month job lost? What Depression second only to 1929. You Repubs are so hypocrite.

You are the hypocrite. The U3 unemployment rate and more importantly the U6 unemployment rate have always been higher under Obama then they ever were under Bush despite the Democrat caused housing bubble that eventually burst. The labor participation rate is also lower by almost 2% points since Obama took office. His recovery is like sitting on the side of the road watching grass grow or cheering on grandma trying to knit with one needle. He is out of his league and the statistics confirm it.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Gemini

Beware wishful thinking because it will cloud your thoughts and lead to confusion. However, that's much easier said than done, because today you're showing distinct tendencies towards living in a rosy world of your own and ignoring any hard facts that are under your nose. Take care that you don't allow someone to dupe you simply because you aren't paying attention to what they're saying or doing.
